My laptop battery runs out in less than 3min

Hey guys, I have ACER Aspire 6920g .. everything is really fine except when I run it without the charger even if I set it to power saver, however, when I boot safe mode it doesn't run out crazily so any laptop pros here ? :sly:


EDIT: I use RMclock too but I'm not sure if it has some effects on this problem
 
My Acer Aspire 5630 does this too, I found that it's to do with your laptop's battery not working correctly or the connection port on the back or side of your laptop isn't making full contact. My laptop has both of these probelms and my parents Acer also suffers the same issues with the power plug thingy. I used to not be able run my laptop with the cable out at all, used to shut down as soon as the cable fell out. I resolved that probelm by taking the battery out and then putting it back in again, but even now I still run the laptop whilst being plugged in simply because it doesn't last long enough when the power cable isn't it.

Sorry that I can't really help, at a guess I'd say it was something to do with the battery or connector...I will be intrigued to see what other more computer savvy people will say.
 
My Samsung does exactly the same thing only it takes about 25 mins. It shows around 50% battery then drops to 1% and shuts itself down. Annoying.
 
My fujitsu laptop is doing exactly the same thing so is my previous toshiba laptop. I think battery laptop will lose it's charge after a few years...
 
That used to happen to my old laptop, but for some reason, it doesn't do it anymore.
 
Probably not a useful response but surely a battery can't discharge fully in three minutes without exploding or getting very hot? How old is it and what kind of battery? I dunno, I'm gonna go with the poor connection theory myself. Not an expert in any way, shape or form, though.

If its not fully charged...

Probably a pretty old battery that has had a rough duty cycle. You can only recharge a battery a certain number of times before you run into this, and it gets worse if you don't do everything perfectly by always draining it to the very last bit before plugging it back in.

Exactly. What I do on mine is since I mainly use it sitting on my desk I have the battery completely spent and I have it out of the laptop so its not getting any type of charge. I don't need the battery in it since its plugged into an outlet for 80% of its life. When I do need it outside of my home I put the battery in the night before and let it charge then use it the next day. The laptop is around 8 years old and I still have the original battery with the life being around 5 hours while using it, which is about the same as when I first got it.
 
It's better to store a battery at half charge than completely spent. If your battery falls below a minimum voltage, it might not accept a charge again!
