Doug, I'm not taking profit from Mazda's and other people's work. I'm attempting to make profit from my labor.

If you guys have a real problem with this or something I guess no one will be able to get this or anything else I offer in the future.

I was just trying to provide something for the people of GTP. Guess it's all illegal...

Listen carefully. You did not create the material, therefore you may not charge money for it for any reason. Period.

For the thousanth time, I'm not charging for the material!!

I'm charging for the hours I've spent getting the material, the CD-R, and shipping.

The material is free and will remain free, but I'd like to get something for all the time and energy I've spent to do this.

And thank's Josh. They probably are. If I had more time right now I'd search GTP for posts by the nae-sayers admitting that they illegally DL stuff.

Christ, you won't get it.

You're selling a CD with Mazda's content on it. You say you're selling the CD's shipping and handling. What are you gonna do, send blank CDs? You're selling CDs full of Mazda Copyrighted products, that you got for free.

There's a slight difference between downloading some stuff (like Mp3s and softwares) for free, and keeping them on your computer for your own use, and selling them for a price to people afterwards.

Okay. Let's rephrase it then since you seen to have some sort of mental block.

Contained on the CD is material which you did not create. Even if you paid 5.00 for the CD, you may not legally sell the CD for 5.00 simply because it has copyrighted material on it. Nobody cares how hard you worked. Nobody cares what you paid for the CD. The mere fact that copyrighted material is on the CD makes it illegal. Your alternative perspective is interesting, and even makes a little sense. Whether it is fair or not is irrelevant. The law says that you may not distribute Mazda's property for money, no matter what you say that money is for.

No no, Fred, that's illegal too. You can't DL music and programs for free if they cost money to begin with. That's Copyrighted!

If I wanted to charge for the content, I'd be asking nearly 10 times what this CD will sell for.

No. As of now, it is not illegal to possess ripped mp3s or software, for your personal use. It's illegal when you try to sell it, however.

Stealing is legal, as long as you don't sell the stolen goods?

Nuh - huh.

No but it's practically impossible to get caught if you keep it for yourself. If you start selling it you're likely to get caught. And selling it is a more serious crime that merely posessing it.

It's illegal in the US to retain a copy of an MP3 if you did not pay the rightful distributor (the record company) for the MP3, or if you do not own the original material in which you have purchased legally. Plus, you can only use the MP3s for private and personal use only. You can't re-distribute (even for free) anything with a copyright without contacting the author/corporation first. And even then, charging for anything given for free, under any circumstances, is usually strictly prohibited.

Plead ignorance.

Maz, we're looking out for you and your family. I suggest you get a job with Mazda or their distribution company as soon as you turn 18, then you do sort of thing as a regular job...and be living the life many of us would probably dream of.

What's funny is...all the people who are *****ing about it being illegal, or it's stealing, blah blah blah...are the people with 10,000+ stolen songs on their computers, free copies of PS7, etc.

There is a difference between selling and advertising something that isn't yours as opposed to just possessing it on your computer. For instance if you happen to have 150 stolen programs on your computer, then fine, just don't say anything about it.

I really don't mind if you sell this CD because I'm not interested anyway. Jordan might, since it's his board. And to the best of my knowledge:

You will not use these forums to violate any laws nor to discuss illegal activities.

Granted Mazda isn't going to waste their time on a teenage kid selling CDs for five bucks, it's still illegal.

In the US, distribution of an illegal item is a far greater crime than posession.

Just let the kid sell the stupid CD! Besides, what is the probability of someone from Mazda to come across this thread?

It's okay, milefile, I understand.

[pupik removes a word form his "talking to a teen fro desired steet cred" vocabulary]

yea...I see. I'll E-mail or letter Mazda about it. If not, then I guess you guys will never get it...

Well that's a fine how-do-you-do! They don't have an E-mail or web inquire thing! I even looked through the letters I've gotten from Mazda, and there's none. I'm reduced to either calling them or writing them, and I think either one will cost me.

Ohh and I looked at thier current job openings, and one is an IT Buisness thingy and the other is a Tax consultant. Both in Irvine. Why isn't there a Mazda office in STL?

hey i would like 1 of thses cds IF there made (now i just need to get $4.25 more to pay for it)

In Irvine, i guess. Toyota's around the block, same for Nissan.

Really? Nissan builds most of their cars in Smyrna, Tennessee, but I guess they could have a plant in California. Toyota builds much of their cars in Indiana and eastern Tennessee also, because of the extremely strong union support. I know Nissan has a design studio in southern California, but I'm unsure about factories.

I dunno, i think it's rather the TRD headquarters that are in California. I know Mazda's design center are in California, that's for sure.
