The Roger Albert Clark historic rally for the last 2 days. They also run a class for other cars as long as they are 2wd. 2 long days out but worth it for the action we saw including Jimmy McRae defending his title from last year.
Were you allowed to take a digi SLR into the Race of Champions? I went in '06 and they didn't allow them (which didn't matter because at the time I didn't have one). That was one of the reasons I wasn't hugely enthusiastic about going in '07.
Yeah, they randomly searched people but I wasn't one of them. Judging by the amount of people with them in there it wasn't an issue anyway. I got to break in my new 300mm lens. The 2 Focus backfire picture is from the opposite end of the stadium and about 8 rows from the back. It is cropped a little though.
Rallycross action from Croft today. Got free tickets so it was a cheap day out. Some decent cars and with Rallycross there's a race every 5 minutes or so.
Another local rally today up in Northumberland near the Scottish border - It was a round of the Scottish 205 cup. There was also Andy Burton in his 306 Cosworth hybrid which uses an ex Opel DTM engine. He was really on it, very neat but fast and it sounds excellent. Check out his website for some videos.
Got back from Le Mans late last night. After a 600 mile drive I was a bit tired so didn't even look at the pictures until today. I took over 1300 so here's a quick highlights (probably a few too many). Some of the camp action too as it's great meeting other race fans and we had very good camp neighbours this year.
Milliethe mutt, thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures. Makes me (even more) want to go to Le Mans, something I have been planning to do for a few years but, for one reason or another, keeps being delayed.
On the funny side, I started to view your pictures in page one and I only realised that the Le Mans pictures there were last years when I saw the #8 Peugeot and ... it wasn't blue !
Ok, now I've seen both years photos (and many more). Thx again! 👍
PS - If I can make a request, could you please post a photo of this year's #8 Peugeot? Besides being the faster and more beautiful Peugeot, one of its drivers was (my countryman) Pedro Lamy.
Thanks for the comments guys. Here's one for you Hun200. It's the best one I've got of the 8 car and I had to crop it a little as it was a fair distance away.
The Group C race was worth getting up at 9 am for after a very late night drinking. The 757 Mazda sounded mad and you could see the exhaust glowing straight away. I think Justin Law nailed the race (it was one of the Jags) all in all a really good old school race. I'm hopefully picking my mates video camera up later so will try and post some highlights on google video - for the sounds really.
The McRae stages today. Worth the 5 hour drive yesterday and sleeping in a tent at this time of year (it wasn't too cold last night). We had a bit of a nightmare with actually getting to the stage this morning and ended up having to go to a later stage to make sure we caught the front runners. This meant we only saw half the field before having to leave to come home. Still an excellent day though.
The Cheviot Stages at Otterburn Ranges today. Worth getting up at 6 for even though I didn't get to kip until about 3. Not too bleak and I managed to get a few good pics (eventually - the first lot are a bit dark)
Next up the Lombard Endurance Rally where one of my mates is navigating in a Mk1 Escort Mexico.
Well, I'm back after visiting Oliver's Mount for the 1st time and it was excellent (if a little hard work lugging my portly frame up the hill). The main area we were spectating was a very fast straight(ish) approach to a tight hairpin which was damp and covered with leaves after the apex. I make no excuses for the daft amount of pictures that follow but they deserve to be shown. We had a great drive down too.
More pictures coming on Monday after a day in Kielder Forest.
I was at the north west stages rally in Blackpool yesterday at the Pontins stage where they run through a holiday camp. It was quite good if a very early morning and long drive to get to. The drive there and back was excellent though.
Local rally this time. Actually a couple of weeks ago now. Got to take the hard top off the MX for the drive up as it was warm and dry (although dry is all that matters). the lack of rain meant it was a little dusty. This is northern England in March!
Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend. Camping on the Goodwood campsite 13 of us in a selection of decent cars (Clio Trophy, M3 CS, 911, Cayenne & my Wagon) with 2 people popping in for the Saturday night in a very nice original VW Camper. Anyway, took loads of pictures but had some issues.
Went down on Thursday and came back Monday. Did over 700 miles in the trip down and back but worth it. Even the weather wasn't too bad. When we arrived at 6:30 on Thursday it was 29 degrees! We took a massive coolbox full of ice which also meant we had cold beer all weekend. Result.
