Sorry. One of his pistons is only more than half of your engine. It needs room to breath.

Oh, so I suddenly have half my displacement per cylinder and am missing 5 cylinders?

EDIT: Make that 4 missing cylinders. Was tired.

yes because your cylinders move in a different way and aren't as techmalogoly (Technologically) advanced as his.

Okay...I'm...completely confused. What are we talking about? the original post was about a super-clean MR2. What's all this 'bout Cylinders?

That so?

Since when is a 4.2 Jaguar inline six different from any other internal combustion engine in the way the pistons move o.O?

I suppose not many "rotary junkies" drive Jaguars. My mistake.

What's this about removing the cat hurts the low-end torque? The LT1 has huge torque everywhere. The cat is the single most restrictive part of the exhaust. On an engine moving as much air through the exhaust as the LT1 removing the cat would make a power gain noticeable on a dyno, especially at high rpm. I would suspect power to gain everywhere, but probably not more than one or two horsepower. The power and torque peaks would probably move higher in the rev range, but both measurements would go up.

I think instead of worrying about the exhaust you should try getting some better flowing headers. The stock manifolds on those engines are also very restrictive. If you want to gain easy power then that'd be a way to snag 10 or 20. Also, that engine is sucking in a lot of air. A better intake pipe and filter would make a difference.

A modification like headers and a test pipe wouldn't necessarily lower your low end torque. It would go up, but not as much as torque higher in the rev range. The stock parts certainly aren't making torque, they're just restricting it at higher rpm so it feels like its got a ton of low end grunt. If you slap on a bunch of flow parts the torque will go up everywhere along with power, but it'll go up a lot at high rpm.

EDIT: I guess I'm late to the party cause you already got headers. Anyway, look into that intake if you haven't already.

I don't know if it's true for the LT1 cars since they make their torque much lower than the LS1's. But I do know that on a LS1 car you lose low end torque with the ORY when making stock power. Once you start making more power not so much.

1 3/4 primaries are pefect. They will work great with that motor and it's a proven fact. Go smaller and they are worthless. Now 1 7/8 those are too big unless you are making big power or going big cubes.

actually, the added flow of the stepped haeders are gonna help me a lot. I am going the route of nitrous oxide, so the extra flow is welcome.

as far as costs...... I am a spirited driver, and enjoy the car everytime I drive it. only when really low on gas do I drive like a grandpa. I get 12-14 mpg.

tires: the tires aI got on there now are actually $290 each, but I am ditching them next year for nitto drag radials. those are only bout $150 each, and hook WAAAAAAAY better......

insurance...... I am 17. I havent gotten any tickets, I have the good grades bonus, multi car discount, and no wrecks. I get a TON taken off every 6 months. actually, its really not that bad at all.

but remember, you dont buy a car like this to save gas, or to drive like a wimp....you buy one to smash the gas, and bake the tires, and feel the v-8 torque rocket you to double the speed limit in 10 seconds. 👍

whats this supposed to mean?

He thinks they are too large. If you weren't already making decent power yea they'd be kinda big, but stock you are making good power and moving a lot of air. Plus with the nitrious plans they will help, like you said.

I agree and disagree. If you have DD then heck yea that's what the car is for. In my case though it serves as my DD so when I'm doing my commuting to school and back I drive it like an old fart. When I'm out cruising that's another story.
