RRoDzaaah!
I'm finally using the skills I've learned in computer class.

Recently, I have been thinking about creating my own service and repair for computers. I am disturbed at the number of people walking out of Best Buy with their computers paying hundreds of dollars for something I do for my friends with no charge. I assumed $20 would be a fair value for my time, but after looking at the pricing at Geek Squad and Firedog websites, I think I can get away with a little more. What would a fair price be? My price options would look something like this:

  • Computer diagnostic and service - $??
  • Computer upgrade and repair - $??
  • Windows Vista upgrade - $300??
I have a full set of tools, ground strap, flash drive with all needed software, and a car to get to the customer's house. Google Maps will be my friend and I have Mozilla Sunbird to schedule all of my appointments. I can post fliers around the community college and the UC and advertise in the classifieds.

So, am I ready? What would you do? This is nothing serious, I'm not taking out a loan to open a business or anything like that.
