Though, I've paid a lot more. I've just made the price with that site http://www.pricewatch.com/

Some of the price of the part is insanely low, like the CPU. no way someone would find a 3Ghz prescott CPU with 1MB of cache with 800FSB lower than 100$, but oh well...

Here the part on it

Mainboard : Asus P4P800 SE PGA-478 $92.98 (115$)
Processor : Intel Pentium 4 3.0E HT
$97.50 (230$)
CPU Fan: Zalman(CNPS770) $34.90 (45$)
Physical Memory : 256+512 DDR400 $15.00+$39.00 (40$+70$)
Video Card : Ati Radeon X1600 Series(RV530) AGP 512 MB $193.95 (200$)
PCI: MSI Theater 550 Pro $84.68 (100$)
Hard Disk : WDC WD400JB-00JJC0(40GB) $41.99 (65$)
Hard Disk : WDC WD2000JB-00GVC0(200GB) $57.99 (120$)
(CD-Rom) : LG HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8525B $22.23 (30$)
(DVD-Rom) :SONY DVD RW DRU-800A $59.45 (120$)
Floppy: Floppy Drive $11.00 (10$)
Case: ATX Medium Deluxe
$33.00 (40$)
PSU: Acepower 400W $31.99 (70$)
Added Fan. 120mm Back 7.00$ (10$)

Added Fan 2: 80mm Side 7.00$ (10$)

Total: price for the rig with super low internet price: 794$~(US) (seem a bit impossible, but oh well..)

What I paid for real: 1155$~ (Can)

This is just the case. Though once all is bought, I hope my next system will be more clever.

795$ USD converted in CAD + transport fees = about the same price if it's not even more... lol

How long ago did you buy this system? Or is it brand new?

If you had a Core 2 Duo, then your PC would of not been weak.

agp, socket 478. It's strong for a 478, But I intend to buy a completely new PC next summer. Those are the actual price, right now, lol!

Word. I'm getting Intel Core 2 Duo (Conroe) and I'm going to OC it to 4.0GHz in the future :D I still gotta wait till early August for it to come out and I need to find a good motherboard with it.

Your not getting it, your just a poser, please leave. :)

Ahhh, i see your waiting now? Hehehehehe

How does this system look for a basic system? I will grab a Video card at some stage in the future, my budget doesn't stretch that far right now! $500 is my budget, and this is a little over, but meh.

Prices are in AUD

$189 for a 5400RPM 100GB HARD DRIVE?!?!

Look around. 5400 is slow even for a basic system. And $189 is overpriced for a Hard Drive that low grade.

ok, no matter what, try to stay away from PCS!!! PCs don't have any good. they always freeze on you, and the have way too many viruses. An Apple would be the best choice. trust me, if you get an apple, all of your problems will me gone 👍

(but i'm stuck with a PC because of my brothers......:grumpy:)

What site is that?

Depending on what kind of gaming you want to do, you might think about going the AMD 64-bit route or at least a proper Pentium processor.

That also looks like a drive for laptops.

I never noticed that, it said 7200RPM 300Gb SATA Hard drive in the selection screen!

I am not building it for games, it is for video editing, which yes, a Mac would be better, but not on a budget!

You still shouldn't be getting a Celeron. I think of them as more for casual users.

I was on more or less the same budget as you 2 weeks ago and got the following.

AMD64 3500+
512MB DDR2
ASUS A8V Mobo (Up to 4gb, loads of USBs, has firewire too I think so may be good for your video editing)
BENQ 16x DL DVD thingy
WD 80gb SATA HD

That cost me $480 AUD

Try Ubuntu Linux. It's easier than you think. I'd give it a shot if games aren't important to you.

Edit: CRAP. I completely glossed over the part about video editing. Nevermind!
