my ps2 makes these strange sounds when i open the tray and when i play some of my games when it needs to load in the game it makes those noises i have tried to bang it a few times that sort of done the trick for a minute but than i noticed when i was banging it and made these deep white stratchers on the disc and they dont work anymore how do i sort my ps2 out to work do i take apart whats wrong with it inside and how do i get rid of the stratchers on the disc

This has happened a countless number of times to people everywhere.

Basically you have three options that i know of. Because i had the same problem.

A, you pop open the PS2 and clean the lens (if your warranty is up) and see if that works (search for a thread like this one, called "PS2 Maintenence" i think, then check there for a link to a page telling you how to do so, don't try it on your own!).

B, you can call Sony up and see if they can replace the PS2.

Or C, just buy a new PS2.

But one thing's for sure, banging it won't really do anything. In the long run, you'll be messing it up more. I also hit it, and i completely fecked up my SSX Tricky disc. I also had to buy a new copy of that.

but my discs are still stratched what can i do about it buy new games or is there a way of getting stratchers of discs or should i buy that game doctor

I guess you could buy a SkipDoctor (BTW some CD-RW drives come with one), if you want to fix your discs.. Just make sure you can use it for video game discs before you buy it.

i was getting the noises too and the tray was acting up.followed

it got quieter and ran better.before this,i used a CD/DVD Cleaner Disc and it didn't work.i opened the ps2 to find about a half-inch of dust on the lens and a dustbunny farm all inside of it.this guide

If you have the model SCPH-30001/35001, just call Sony and they will repair it for free.

Thats what I did. No more messing with it, or opening, but to the original poster, you are out of luck. Sony doesnt fix already opened PS2s.

I just had this same problem and i sent it away to Sony and they are fixing it for free, and also check out this thread as it has a link to a website which has a very deatalied (sp) walkthrough to taking about and cleaning/fixing your PS2.

What games does it have trouble with? Blue Bottomed or silver bottomed, or BOTH? If it's having trouble with blue bottomed disks I can help... PM me (you wont have to take your PS2 apart) ;)
