We couldn't use axes over here, still, I can protect myself with a banana. I just hope my intruder hasn't seen the Monty Python training video....

Was it an axe or a hatchet? Either way, nice going on getting them out of your place. No clever comment about leaving the house in multiple pieces?

Congrats for the quick thinking! 👍 👍 👍 👍
Being Mr. nice guy has allways a downside like this.
Oh, I've also heard about those gypsies/romanians robbing elderly.

You Leo are incredibly un/lucky and you have quick reflexes..

Cheer up!

Was it an axe or a hatchet?

Knowing the guy and the standard Fiskars axe I'm willing to bet we're talking about one of these:

🤬 me Leo. You should've gone Dudesons on his ass and left a nice Fiskar sticking out of his thigh!! :trouble:. 🤬 house thieves, hate them with a passion.

We're sort of lucky we don't have true 'gypsies' here in Australia, just tryhard hippie ferals that act like them.

You're a lucky guy. I'd never, ever let some random person into my house. If anyone unknown ever comes, I just don't open the door. I would've escorted the guy to the toilet though personally, not waited outside.

I hate living in a country where guns are legal. as long as i can keep my swords and my machete and my nunchucks, even though with my numchucks i would hurt myself first before i hurt anyone else.

ha ha.

chawing they call it, the family outing of hunting and nicking whatever they can find..
i discovered that from a little gypsy boy from the school my mum works at, he would follow his dad around breaking windows and stealing petty belongings
pretty foolish to leave the house, good job he was an idiot and didnt steal keys or money :odd:
i guess you'll have to keep an eye out until they move on

Don't go to any major country outside the US, then. They may be stricter on who can have one, but many countries allow guns which means there's still the chance for a smart & a dumb person to own one.

Had it been someone with shorter fuse than I, I could had sold the remains to dog owners for a good win.. :p but I'm not, and it has saved me from a lot of trouble before. And the picture Rene sent is pretty accurate. one of the nearly indestructible axes from Fiskars :D
I won't fall for this kind of trick anymore.. in fact, I won't even open a door unless I know who it is.

damn story Leo glad to hear that you're okay and not harmed! and a 512MB-stick is better than everything else, it could have been much more worse!

viper

yeah, worse for HIM. anyway, this incident turned me into strong eye from eye-method supporter.. :ouch:

You really shouldn't give a flying flarck about your PS3 and be happier something much, much worse didn't happen to you. Don't let strangers inside your home.

We get them calling round here sometimes, we never even talk to them. You can tell who they are from what they look like. It's a simple open the door with a big Border Collie barking angrily behind me, shout "**** OFF" and then slam the door. Usually works wonders, they end up thinking you're an absolute lunatic.

Good job you and your stuff is ok...

My nan once let a man in who wanted to use the toilet whilst his friend kept her talking outside... The didn't know I was on the computer upstairs, and when I saw the bloke I asked who he was and he said he was a relative (I knew he wasn't because we have a very close family) and had heard about these occurances... Luckily I carry a locking flick pen knife so I told him to leave before I put him in a hospital... They went, but my nan was a little shaken.

Worst thing is, they came back two weeks later and tried to force in, again, I was there visiting which was lucky... I never let them know I was there until he had broken in and came through the living room door - I punched him as hard as I could and dragged him out. His friend just ran off when he saw me drag him out of the house... I had to give a statement to the police but got away with it because the two men were known for doing this in another part of Birmingham...

Makes me sick that they would attempt it twice, especially to an elderly lady who they assumed to be on her own... They havn't been back since so I'm presuming they have either left the area or have been jailed... I just make sure I go around my nan's regulary...

Just keep aware and as said by others - don't let anyone in unless you are 500% sure. You can not trust anyone anymore... I guess it's just the world we live in now though...

Good old Brum, eh?

I've never heard of anything like that here in my area. Regardless, I never let anyone inside the house unless they're someone I know, or someone my family knows. Even then, I escort them throughout the house.

Haha. True... I guess as I've spent all my life here it just dosn't bother me... I just get on with it now, especially if it's punch or be punched...

Like the bus stop I use for college, when I don't drive, is in a bit of a rough area and there are quite often dodgy people there who try to engage in conversation to see how much you'll tell them... Usuallu starts off with asking what road you live on and how far up the road... I never tell them, I just tell them to follow me if they are abrave enough... When I first moved there one did start following me - I spun around and punched him so he ran off... Never had anyone bother me since...

I used to live in a really rough council estate in Kings Norton (money issues at the time) so I'm glad I'm in a private rented house now - just a shame about the rough part over the back... I'm immune to those type of people now as I've had to put up with it all through my life. But as I say, I'm very glad to be in a nice area now.
