This happened just a few minutes ago when i was playing the new ZEN Pinball game. It just turned itself off. Then I started it and played for a few minutes, then it turned itself off again. I let it be for about 30 minutes. After that it didnt work at all. This is what happens

  • I turn on the rear switch, red light is on as usual
  • I press the power button and the green light is on for about 2 seconds and the fans start
  • Then a yellow light is on for about 2 seconds
  • The fans turns off and a flashing red light is shown
  • The flashing red light doesn't go away

So i'm screwed right?

"overheating problem" as sony says. You will have to send it in for repair. Apparently pulling your ps3 apart and using a heat gun on the CPU works but I wouldn't risk it.

Had same thing happen even though there was no reason for my ps3 to overheat.

I had mine standing on the floor with no walls at all closer than 1 m. So mine definitely had no reason to overheat.

I think that is just an "excuse". I doubt mine overheated either when it happened. From what I understood about the DIY fix, it is actually due to dry solder joints on the CPU so you use the heat gun to effectively "re solder" the cpu to the board.

Regardless unless you feel like pulling your PS3 apart and putting a heat gun on it, I would be sending the PS3 back to sony.

Yeah, mine had the same problem. It is well past the 1 year warranty, so I have to pay $150 to get it fixed.

yellow light of death(YLOD)....search the net about this, nothing you can do i am affraid.
had the same thing, just contact your supplier...

spyrrari.

This is what happened to my PS3 also, you'll have to ring Sony. J-Pap I believe the "overheating problem" is just an excuse aswell, as my PS3 was fine one night when I turned it off and when I switched it on in the morning I got the YLOD. Whatever causes YLOD I am not sure, but if you get it you are screwed. I was lucky mine failed while Sony were swapping them for free, it now costs £145 to get a refurb.
