The best thing about this forum: If you don't like it, you don't have to be here! Yup, that's right. You have the ability to stay away from things that annoy you...

Remember when your mom used to tell you that if you didn't have anything good to say then be quiet. Oh that's right, you don't remember. Well, I will remind you. Start a thread about something new and interesting and you should see it on the board. Start a thread about something you think is new and interesting, and if it's not, you won't see it on the board.

Anyways, If I have to see another thread about which car someone needs to use to win the Supercar Festival... Just kidding. All answers are there. That is what the search function is for. In fact, I enjoy this forum so much I am going to look into becoming a premium member.

Administrators, keep up the good work. It is much appreciated by 'the old folk' who have been around awhile.

Veteran members like having new blood in, for fresh perspective.

Personally I like having new blood in because I get thirsty occasionally.

If this forum was not subject to Moderator Approval, anything useful would be buried under tons of total goosenaargh. And who'd be whinging then? That's right - YOU.

this forum is the most active forum i go on and that includes forums for PES4, CM5 and all the other CM games. the thread approval is a fantastic idea.

Der Alta and Speedy Samurai, great posts. Just remember, you're never going to satisfy everyone, but it seems like you're satisfying the majority. I have no idea how long I've been a member here, but I know a lot about GT4 that I wouldn't know otherwise. I've made a few posts here and there when I thought I had something pertinent to say and I try to keep it nice. A good debate can be healthy as long as people remember it's just a game. This is the only GT4 site I visit now and I've found nothing to complain about. If I have a question, I know that someone here will know the answer or attempt to recreate a situation and see what happens for them. For the majority, this site serves it's purpose very well.

I never started a thread here. Didn't need to.

Sure I don't like to browse 20+ pages threads just to find that litle info I want, but some members of these forums are kind enough to keep updating their opening post (this was particularly true in the thread I read over and over again: Amar's PAL GT4 thread).

I must tell you, being a noob myself, that I felt a bit intimidated at first because everytime I saw someone else post a question, there was always someone else replying "Use the search button and stop flooding the forum with questions many times answered". I won't say that these answers are wrong, but a litle more politeness or kindness to noobs wouldn't hurt, I think.

Overall, I think this forum is great and if I want to know anything from GT4 that I don't know yet, it is here that I will find it.

About the thread approval, I don't see anything wrong with it. Maybe it prevents some valid threads to get started or even submitted to approval, but it surely prevents also many pointless threads to appear.

I am an avid gamer of all kinds, but this is the only forum I am a member of. When I need help on other games I just use the resources provided by my Gamefly subscription. GT4 is a different type of game that is far more complex and challenging than most any other type of game and this forum is the only place I can find everything I need.

GTP isn't the first GT4 forum I ran across or tried to read. Why did I stay? Two reasons:

1) Moderated Thread Topics
I have friends who play games like World of Warcraft and visit forums for those every day, but when they have a question they can't find anything previously posted about it among all the thousands of others. So, after they actually post their question in a new thread they then have to bump themselves almost every 10 minutes to stay on the first page. I don't see how doing that will make this a more enjoyable thread. Imagine not knowing to look for the black LMP cars because you never saw the thread in the mix of the "Dudes, check out what I did!" threads.

2) No Leet Speak or Internet Shorthand
I HATE Leet Speak. Looking at forums that don't have any form of English I know of gives me a headache. I feel like I am trying to read posts made by a bunch of two-year-olds just hitting the keyboard randomly. I don't even use it to text message on my phone. The few cases in which I have seen Leet Speak abused I have usually seen a moderator reply soon after asking them not to do it.

I don't mind people who don't have English as a first language not being perfect. I don't act like my German is perfect but I know enough to get by. I would rather see a person who doesn't have English as their first language attempt to type it all out as best as they can than see someone who only speaks English and will probably never attempt to learn another language butcher their English by using Leet Speak just because they are too lazy to type a whole word.

Anyway, the very things complained about in this thread are why I joined GTP. If all forums were like this one the Internet would be much nicer.

Keep up the good work.

I echo Der Alta's and Duke's comments - without the thread moderation feature, you would have many more things to complain about. I have no plans on removing thread moderation for at least a few more months.

Div is back
The owner has spoken, end of discussion.

Yep, I remember back before the approval function. I tried to make a post on a thread and it was buried back to page three within ten minutes. That's just sick.

If you only knew how many people submit threads about "Best time on the ring" sheesh, talk about reduntancy.

Honestly, I almost wish we had that on the GT4 drift forum...sometimes. :sly:

the moderation isnt that bad, but it gets killed due to the way that the threads are arranged, it says that in the moderation thread thingy

I joined this forum purely for the amount of information on a wide variety of games, not just the GT series!
Being a member of other forums, I found this one the most easiest to use, the most definitive one for finding answers to questions I had and honesty, the best 'looking' one! :P

I can say that the majority of times I'm glad there is a thread approval before each post is accepted, as it helps to reduce/cut-down the amount of redundant posts!

I for one would like to see a FAQ page on the DEFAULT home page...you know...www.gtplanet.net as I think this would help to reduce the number of idiotic posts, regardless if it's a post in an existing thread or a new topic!

As is stands now, the only way I found anything that referred to FAQ's was by:

* Going to the home page
* Clicking on the Gran Turismo 4 Tab at the top of the page
* Clicking the "Message Board" link
* Then finally seeing the post from sn00pie
To me, that's at least 2 clicks to many! IMHO!

I think there should be a FAQ button, either linked to sn00pies thread Look here before you ask - many FAQ's or his other thread topic, GT4 General Discussion...here

In any case, GTP is an awesome resource for anything GT related....it just needs a one or two minor cosmetic updates!

problem with gettin approved is if it doesn't get approved sometime near when you post it it appears at the bottom of the list...or a few pages down !, not any will see it
suppose it goes by YOUR posting time and not the time approved

Hello all.

Jumping in here as a "newbie" to this sites forums I personally agree that the threads should be monitored. I have been guilty of not searching correctly before posting on here, but backing up with relevant secondary information has got my threads though.

An, FAQ, *Frequently *Asked *Quires, or as I like to call it, Annoying *Questions section would be a good idea, but lets think about it, how much work would that be to monitor and collate?

With the world wide appeal and high rate of new membership surround a new game launch I think the moderation is a great idea, until the new member list starts to die off leave moderation on.

*until GT5 hits then turn it back on ;)

Please don't go around the swear filter, C70T5. I had to edit your post.

But you have to admit, when you started out at this forum there were particular threads that might have been started months ago and have since died out or have been discussed, that you just wern't around for. Saying that you shouldn't rehash old topics might aswell just deny new members from coining in any debate that they havn't originally been included in. For all we know joe schmo who once in a while says immature things might have a wealth of knowledge on the Ford motor company, or Honda engines. I don't know about the rest of you, but I usually don't bother reading topics that have 200 odd pages but havn't been posted in for 5-6 months.

I agree totally. It seems a little stupid to have to ressurect a thread that hasn't been active in months. Or if your question is along the same lines as a previous thread but that thread doesn't answer it specifically. Some times we don't word things so that what we're trying to say is understandable to everyone. Then that someone who doesn't understand asks again and it's so frowned upon.

At the same time I can understand the whole to many similar threads problem. So I guess that makes it a neccesassary evil.

ACtually, that has been changed. Now, the thread appears according to when it was approved, rather than when it was posted.

Interesting points on both sides. I agree moderation should stay for awhile. Looking at IGN everyday like Gtplanet their is at least three new topics each day asking "what a-spec points do" and Black beasts"where to buy whats fastest what day, what day, what day" Gtplanet.net is the sanest GT Board period.

What the 🤬?!?!?! I decided to check out IGN's message board, and some guy had a thread saying that some date was his birthday, and he wanted to do something special for it so he would remember it. What did he want to do? He wanted people to give some idea's for what car, what track, etc. to take a pictures of and on, on his birthday. Hahahaha, like what the 🤬 is that?! Can somebody say "Lord of the rings figures: 50, Friends: 0"

[edit by mod]: The swear filter is there for a reason – please don't work your way around it.

What drugs are you on? You clearly have nothing to contribute to this thread.

I hope that anyone who posts a "use the search button" will include a link to the answer. I feel it's helpful and courteous. If you are just trying to be the first person to tell someone to search, thats definately post-whoring, IMO.

Go ahead and tell them to search, but at least show them how powerful the search function can be by providing a link to the topic. Ah well... :steps off soapbox:

That is nice, but at the same time people need to understand HOW to search as well. They also need to get in the habit of doing it themselves. They can't do that without actually using the search feature.

That being said, I will usually give the reader's digest version of what I remember the pertinent info to be while asking them to search for more information.

EDIT: I knew I was right

1st off, this belongs in the site feedback forum

Teach a man how to kill chickens, he feeds himself forever.

Erm...or some thing like that. :dopey:

As a member for 2 years, ive seen this site grow from less than 10,000 members to what it is today and im gonna have to say, im with the mods/admin on this one, The way they have the GT4 forum set up is brilliant, yes the occasional repitive thread slips through, and im sure there are a few good threads that get killed, but all in all its defiently better the way it is.

Once GT4 settles down a bit, im sure the thread moderation will be lifted, but unless you are a moderator you have no idea how many pointless threads are being made, as because of the brilliant system we the users never get to see them. Therefor we cannot judge when thread moderation should be lifted, and normal Thread creating resume.

And for the search, if you cannot truly find exactly what you are after, post a question in a related thread, If its a DFP question, post it in the DFP thread. If its a "I cant find X car" have a look at the prize car list, then post it in the used car threads. You dont need a new thread for every single unanswered question.

I think your absolutly right all the topics are out dated on this forum. Plus when someone has a good question and its "off topic" the admin closes it. I'm sorry but thats not right . A persons question should be answerd on the forums. Theres not even a section for questions.

ROFL, this was without a doubt the most ignorant and funny post as of yet.

:)

I think someone forgot to tell him about the search button because if he knew about it he wouldnt be complaining.
