My track design

Ian,

I'm guessing you intend to run this course clockwise only correct? Because if you run it anti-clockwise, the pit exit would have cars coming out near the driving line.

If you intend to run it in both directions, I would have to suggest a change in the pit lane.

Other than that and smoothing out a couple of corners here & there, I'd say it works for me.

Still a work in progress.

My version of Rome from GT3:

^ I like the work in progress. I should probably do a bit more on my track, I've been thinking we could have a little mini competition with this. E.g specifying track width limits and a set box area of say 3km x 3km to see who could design the best layout.

Attempted, but failed due to lack of interest.

Sorry mate, unless you'd like to have another go.

Nice one Ian and LancerEvo7GSR!!!

Looking good! I like the improvements. That looks like a fast course! It gives me a very F1 feel to it as opposed to a club circuit.

For the garage, I used the push/pull tool to offset to make the garage doors 3d. (See my new pic on page 1, post #17 for an example).

Thanks mate :D... Yeah I'll try to do it tonight and also if I can, a curved grandstand roof.

How do you do those tracks Kidrauhl and Tiddy? I'd like to give it a shot .

Well it's quite hard at forst but it'll be easy when time goes by ;) I think you might already know that we're using Google SketchUp and I think you might also familiar with Photoshop, because the process is just nearly the same. Excet that in this one you can do stuff in 3D :p. Good luck in trying mate ;)👍

EDIT:

Naah!! No wait for tonight... Straight to the plan and yes I done it but as I promised earlier to have a curved grandstand roof, looks like that's not going to happen. Instead, this is the result ;). I really hope you guys like it.

Thanks Kid 👍, I'm gonna vie it a try. Already drew a basic sketch on a piece of paper.

PS: My Post #666 .

Okay so i give it another go and make a second track and this time, i believe I have done a very good job

No problem mate ;). Just give it a try and we are welcome to see more new tracks here. Just do it slowly and you'll get it 👍.

Owh plus, the 666

Right now. Ian, I think you have done the best of you so far but if you are interested to, try to play around with the up/down feature to make the 3D buildings.

Ok, here's a new one that I started working on yesterday. I may have gone a little overboard on this track...

Anyway, here's my new circuit dubbed "Coteaux Curves."

View from the stands. (EDIT - finally figured out how to put a roof over the curved grandstands). :)

How do you like my control tower with the translucent windows? Hahaha!

I traced these amazing roads where I used to live and put together something I referred to as the Vuelta de Gran Canaria.

Stage 1 Stage 2 & 3 Stage 4

I still dream with it being a point-to-point stage at some rally. There is a rally on that island, but that series of stages I put together was deemed too dangerous to be part of the actually rally.

Ok, so I updated my first track (the one in the beginning of the thread). And here's what I came up with:

I added the shorter club course, along with a secondary pit. I changed the layout a little bit by adding in a couple of esses. I also updated the original grandstands, as well as adding a control tower and some VIP suites above the main pits.

I even added a Dunlop sign like the one at La Sarthe right before the optional chicane. (You could read it if I zoomed in close enough for a pic).

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I guess I'll just put it here...

Anyway, so this is my first try using Google SketchUp. I wanted to make a fast track with some passing opportunities.

The track orientation is meant to be run counter-clockwise.

I wanted the last half to be downhill (after the long right hand sweeper heading into the kink).

Also, any thoughts, comments & suggestions? I had a lot of fun making this and hope to improve as I go along.

EDIT - btw, the program is free if you want to give it a go...

All the rolling curves you put in these tracks could make them great, challenging, difficult, and probably frustrating driver's tracks. But they would be awful to watch as a spectator. They're great for the driver because they'd be very technical--I've been tracing lines for a bit and I can't figure out how exactly I'd get around them, I'd have to actually drive it to figure it out. But the challenge makes them boring as sin for people watching. Nobody would ever get passed, because there is no "other" line you can take besides the correct one, and if you chance it you're just going to spoil it for yourself and the guy you're trying to pass. Or crash.

Many tracks, especially new F1 tracks, seem to be pretty predictable and "safe". Not very exciting, but at least you don't all have to line up single file to make it around the first corner in one piece.

I respectfully disagree. The longer turns, particularly those with 180 degrees or more, gives you a choice of lines. You can take a late apex or you can divide it into 2 corners and use a double apex.

There's a variety of turns. There's tightening radius turns, kinks & hairpins. Not to mention that the kinks usually have two straights to make up some faster sections.

Also, the longer curves give the added difficulty of the braking zone not being in a straight line.
