I'm trying to complete "Japanese 1979 & earlier" race but I dont find any car that's within the requirement range. That goes for Europe.

Dont see 1978 Nissan Fairlady Z 280Z-L 2seater or 1979 Nissan BLUEBIRD Hardtop 1800SSS?

How am I suppose to complete the event if it doesnt have the car within the requirements?
Am I missing something?

Yeah, that one is a pain to get the right car. You've pretty much got two choices:

1: keep an eye on the used car dealership, and hope something shows
2: skip the race for now, and after you've won the '78 Dome Zero Concept from the Supercar Nostalgia race, it'll be an easy win.

If you add me on PSN I'll send you a car that fits that can win easy (or a challenge). Most likely thursday at the earliest . . .

I think there a few premium cars in the NCD that will work for this as well.

Yeah this is one area of controversy with GT5's game design. Most people say why would you create race events without having a car to race the event. Which is likely a valid point. Anyway the used car dealership (known as the UCD here) is where your going to have to look for one most likely.

The UCD gets 6 "new" additions to it every 1 day in GT5. A day in GT5 goes by everytime you load a race or license. The easiest way to cycle the entire UCD list is to simply go into the first license test and click next until you hit your 6th event. At this point exit and go to the UCD and check your new list. If nothing try again...

If all else fails try asking here to borrow a car from somebody at this will let you use people's cars that they have shared online with friends (automatically is sent back to friend once you change cars).

Teach a guy to fish instead of just giving him the fish. You will come across this during the game quite often. Skip it and come back to it and maybe you won't have to buy it. Look at the prize car thread and see if you can win something. Also do what I did not do and b- spec as well as a-spec so you get twice the coin and cars ;)

As the others are saying, if you can't get the car you need for one event, just move on to the ones you can do. For me, I always wound up getting cars that would work for races I had skipped, until it ceased to be a problem. B spec is really helpful for this.

Also, I didn't find a car for this in the new car dealership when I looked. I may have missed it, but my impression was that you either wait for it to show up in the UCD, or you win the Dome.

I think that 10 years ago we'd be happy tootling around the game waiting for the correct tools to make themselves available via the UCD.

PD have made a game for modern tech, but it still reflects those 10-year-old gaming values. People just aren't happy that parts of the 'game' are locked due to the sporadic in-game unavailablity of certain cars.

That's why situations such as the one raised in this thread cause such frustration! We've changed, PD haven't :D

The Honda S800 RSC Race Car '68 that can be won through golding IB licence might usable. Mercedes 300SL Coupe '54 should be able to win the european race atleast with some tuning.

Speak for yourself. I see no problem with this. I think it's unrealistic that I could get every car I want on a moment's notice. This isn't an arcade game, after all. It's a long term effort, with an obvious intention to try to make us value the specialness of some of the cars. GT5 in particular is a game where money doesn't come too easily, and rare cars are actually difficult to obtain.

It is a challenge, but that's OK with me. I have my gripes about GT5, but this seems pretty fair.

There's really nothing antiquated about this. It's not as though technology has somehow affected the availability of cars. In fact, I think you've got it backwards. This is a bit novel, rather than old. I could buy every car I needed for every race, as soon as I had the cash, in all the other GT games. It's not a ten year old concept. It's an eight month old fresh concept.

Like I said, just play the levels you can, when you can. Appreciate it when you finally get the car you need. Before you know it, you've gotten all the cars you needed, and there's at least the illusion of value to some of them.

When i first started playing GT4 i thought it was bad game design that i had to do races all over the place in order to win cars so i could go back and finish other races BUT, i found after a while that i rather enjoyed playing it that way (with a little UCD hunting in between).

Having said that, I think this problem of getting the right cars for the right events is much more highlighted in GT5 than it's predecessors due to the lack of events/content and UCD mainly spitting out Miatas, Skylines and RX7's.

Anyways, i cant imagine anything more boring with regards to playing any of the GT series than playing them in a straight line-if you follow me.

I wont offer any advice to the OP other than, play the game and you will start to "get it".

If I'm honest, I don't see what the problem is. I count 34 pre '79 Japanese cars; I did that event quite early on and I'm pretty sure I already had a few of them.

In fact I could have been more clear... I was speaking about the general trend that I see in posting on all kinds of game fora.

I'm with you in that I'm in no rush to own/complete everything.

Well just to play devil's advocate (er, PD's advocate--not saying they're the devil just a turn of phrase :)), they offer a slew of cars for each online race series for the week until a new race is offered, then they phase those cars out for ones appropriate to the new one. The OCD can be useful, except unfortunately there's a time constraint on its contents. Standard cars are standard cars, and as such you'll have to go fishing for them. I spent nearly 3 days looking for a Lamborghini Diablo, and almost gave up doing so because of the tiresome cycling UCD process. Still, it's part of the "challenge" I suppose to hunt down and collect the best cars.

Check with you friends. If they have a car that qualifies for the race ask that they put it in their on-line garage. Go to their profile. Borrow the car. Use that car to race that series. Costs you no Cr and earns you a bunch.

Agreed 👍

I think PD was very close with making the ucd concept work but it could have improved a bit. They should have had atleast 1 if not 2 premium cars that could work for each event but were in no way the best or fastest for said event.

That way the guys who want to do well online or to have the best must hunt them down while those who are the more casual gamer may just make their way through the game at their own pace, playing events as they like.

Don't know if anyone has said this but look under the GT5 Forum and you'll find a Matrix that lists all the prize cars. It's probably located in one of the Special Events. I would recommend using that Matrix (as I have & am) to determine where I need to go to get a certain car.

I won the car I did this in, right at the start of the game. Forgotten the name but it looks horrendous - sort of like a contact that's been run over.

That would be the Dome Zero Concept I mentioned in the 2nd post of the thread.
