So, I am due my first child at the end of July but we are totally struggling for names.

If it is a boy we would like some element of a racing name (but not so much that if he hates racing(and breaks my heart) that it'd be a burden).

If a girl then some car element would be good e.g. Eleanor (from Gone in 60s), Jessica (Top Gear tuheme), but not a car brand name.

We are from the UK so NASCAR related names will be lost on most people here. However names do not even need to be car related.

Traditionally my family have 2 middle names and the surname is Young, hence my acjy username.

So GT planet, can you come up with the name? Single names or full 3 names plus the surname are accepted. You are up!

Boy Names:

Graham (Hill)?
Damon (Hill)?
Lewis (Hamilton)?
Sterling (Moss)?

Depends on who you support if you go for a driver related name.

Girl Names:

Shelby
Elise
Eleanor

Congratulations on the child by the way. :)

Edit:

Gumpert for both.

Decision made.

Fair enough, we have a winner already.

Enzo. Damon. Mika. Rubens.

If you wanted touring car champs, the names aren't very distinct; Andy; Will; Robb; John; Matt; Tim; Chris; Win; Jim; Jason; Gordon. Unless you went for a foreign one, then you could have a child called Gabriele; Alain; Rickard; Laurent; Fabrizio; Joachim.

For a girl, look no further than Michelle. Women in motorsports don't get better than Michelle Mouton.

You got that damn straight, except I'm sure it was spelled with just one L. :p

Pastor. Pastor Maldonado Bolognese Young*.
*If for some reason you are possessed to name your child this, don't let him/her drive a car. Ever. Or there will be accidents.

Personally, I'd go for something like Damon, as suggested previously. It's not too obvious, but still recognisable.

Thanks for (most of) the suggestions so far.

Some good suggestions here with the less distinct ones as well. However it will not be Jason, as in our house when watching BTCC 'Jason' is rarely followed by anything other than an expletive!

Not a car brand? Ahhh, I don't think many girls are named Minerva :p

You don't want it to be too obvious, so I'd go for Michael Ralf Schumacher. Nice and subtle.

Seriously, some of the touring car names are normal names, yet recognisable to fans.

(What does your wife/partner think of the motorsport connection BTW. :p)

She is very happy with it. She is into motorsport thankfully especially F1, MotoGP, BTCC and Ginettas and it is usually her yelling the expletives at Plato

Asking a car enthusiast forum for baby names is a good way to get your kid named "Miata".

Or maybe "Elise".

Funnily enough, my girls are named Miana and Eliana... close enough.

Forget naming kids after something car related. There are too many Enzos in this world, as it is. Find something that sounds good, with a meaning you like, and stick with it.

Something unique, like "Pocoyo". Or even better, "Spongebob".

Dave
Debbie or Slagathor

Not really car related, but there is a little joke hidden in there :)

Name him/her Someone. Yes, you heard me right, Someone. :p

On the serious side, I'd go with Brandon, Gordon, Russell, Stanton, or Trevor if it were a boy. Celesta, Bridgette, or Victoria.

I'm tempted to go the other way and name a potential future child 'Harvey' rather than Tim. John is a family given name, with the middle name the given name, and John Harvey flows better than John Timothy.

The Platypus? They don't do much you know.

Name the child after a race track. Croft works for both genders. Mallory too. Laguna is a stretch (also a Renault) and you might like to avoid Nordschleife, Brands Hatch and Interlagos.

I have run round the nordschleife and it is incredibly hard work. Naming a child that would be setting myself up for a fall.
I may have to consider some odd names, perhaps Knockhill or Snetterton :sly:
