I'm really suprised more people don't know about this, but at www.napigator.com, they offer great software that lets you log on to OpenNap servers using the same Napster software.  It's great!

Most of the other servers not only have a lot more users and music, but they're faster, too!  :D

Absolutaly amazing. The filters have been really annoying and I have been resorting to spelling the artists name or song title different ways at the off chance that I could download a song. I will check it out now.

You might have a little trouble getting on the servers at peak hours (usually 7:00-12:00 PM), so the morning and early afternoon are the best times.  That's really the only problem with it.

I did have a bit of trouble getting on some servers but I found some of the smaller servers had what I want. It is great to be able to download from Napster again.

Yeah, usually the top 7-10 servers are full.  There used to be about 15 servers with as many as 20,000 people on each one.  They're not there anymore though, because I think the site that managed them went out of business or something.  :(

How do you find out which server you can get on because most I try are full ?

I just start at the top of the list, double-click, and then if it doesn't log me on in about 10 seconds, I click the next one down on the list.

Damn that was a quick response Jordan. Thanks and I think I will just have to perservere.

Yeah, we're on here at the same time.  If you click on Active Users at the bottom of the Forums home page you can see who is browsing the forums and what messages they are viewing.  Pretty cool.  :)

Its like Tom and Jerry when you are posting the same time as somebody else.

Yeah, it's pretty cool though.  One time at the community I deleted one of my messages to fix a spelling error while somebody else (I believe it was Soulpanic) was looking at the messages.  He replied before I fixed it and it looked funny on his part.  Now we can edit messages.

That's a good question - I don't know for sure, but Napigator's site is still going strong. I guess if you still have a copy of Napster, it will still work. :)

Is it strange to look back at things you posted a year and a half ago? Do you even remember posting it?

Yes, it is very strange reading through my own posts, not remembering the discussion and not knowing what I was going to say! :) It looks like I actually made this post before we even switched over to vBulletin.

It wont connect to the server, but you can still use it to play and look at your music libary.

But thats only if you have had it one your computer since before it went down. i dont think a clean install of napster will let you get past the registration part.

Chances are it was a code for one of the smileys back in the day.

I'm pretty sure  is :D

anyway, you can still use open nap servers with winmx.

You have to download server lists. Try GatorMX, it's a program that downloads the most popular servers and updates them if there are new ones.

Try pressing the 'download new server list' button in winmx, that does the trick.

No, GatorMX is not spyware. All it does is download the .wsx file and puts it in your winmx folder.
