anyone notice if the Nascar AI's are less into bumping and punting? I was unable to gold the last race(Daytona?) until I turned steering assist on which miraculously stopped them from spinning me. Funny how I tried at least 25 times and my best result was 2 silvers....I turn on steering help and win by a whole second which is huge....wondering now if they will play nice now??? I still have to gold the series, hence the curiousity

I don't think the race was hard, as I spun out on lap 1 (11 secs behind the lead at the end of the lap) and catched the lead on lap 9 and went to victory.

But I wouldn't have spun out if the AI hadn't bumped me. So maybe, the race may be easier now if the AI doesn't play dirty.

Never thought the race was hard....easy to draft up to the front BUT as stated in many many tries I was always spun or punted or put on my side up against the wall, sometimes the first lap sometimes the last but pretty much ALWAYS.
So I started watching replays and found that a lot of that stuff was my fault as I wasnt holding a line and often cut across someones frontend. So I made a point to stay inside and never went wide without checking but I was still getting punted etc just not as much. But it only takes loosing a few seconds before you cant catch the pack and effectively your day is done. I've not found a setup yet that will let me catch the pack once outside of drafting range so I'm not sure but I guess at 11 seconds behind, you still had people to draft off of...
Reason I started to think it wasn't only me having issues as my first 3 attempts ALL ended on being spun in the last straight on lap 10 and in each case I took the flag going backwards at 150+ :indiff:

Yeah, I've done that. I suppose it would help having a spotter, which we don't have.

Still, a lot of my spins had been the AI's fault. Now, I know people that like to throw around the Days of Thunder phrase "rubbing is racing", and perhaps to mention "bump drafting", but bump drafting isn't the same as what the AI were dong to me. What they were doing is "slam drafting".

In real life bump drafting, the car coming up behind you makes a point of not ramming you as hard as he can, but rather eases off to perfectly match your speed right on your tail, possibly making very light contact in the process. This is in stark contrast with what the AI enjoyed doing to me - coming up behind me like 10+ MPH faster than me (a speed difference resulting from drafting behind me) and not easing off behind me but rather just slamming into me as hard as they can impact me.

I also suspect that the bumpers in GT5 are quite a bit more rigid than the real-life bumpers. In real life, if you come up behind me and tap my back end it should give a bit rather than rigidly resisting and upsetting my car.

Really? 11 secs? :odd:
If I hit the outside of the track in a turn, I sometimes get 'stuck' against the side.
I lose speed, and it takes me a while to get 'mah groove' back. By that time, I'm 2-3 secs behind the pack, and than there is NO WAY I can get back to them :|
They're drafting, switching first place, and go a LOT faster when in a group.
If I'm not close enough to get some draft, I'm pretty screwed for the rest of the race...

If I stay in the pack, I can keep battling for 1 st place, but once I'm out of the group, they speed off...

Sometimes there are 2groups, when there's a gap. But the 2nd group never gains (or loses, for that matter) on the first group...
