NASCAR Drafting

Hello peoples. So i'm doing the NASCAR Academy Advanced, and so far, i'm noticing an annoying maybe-glitch. When I pull in behind another car to draft, I am unable to catch up. In my understanding, drafting is supposed to allow me to keep up with cars on the straights. When I try, the car in front just pulls away, and the car behind me drafts me and pulls right up to me. In one situation, the front car was literally 10 feet away, and by the end of the straight he made such a huge gap between us it took me 2 turns to even get back to where I was. This basically kills NASCAR Academy for me, considering every race relies on drafting. How do I fix what I'm doing wrong?

P.S. Suggestions would be nice

Make sure there is no TCS on. You are slowing down to drastically and losing your draft. Turn ABS off, brake balance 0/0. Thats all I can think of.

I've had the exact same problem before, i think its just a small glitch, or the connection was bad and it didn't pick up that i should of been drafting.

P.S.S. This is really most noticeable during Daytona, when I get stuck behind the Energizer Car and by lap 2, the pack is halfway around the track, whereas I'm in 10th place with nothing to even try to draft :(

If you want i can give you my Nascar Setup :) I was first on Daytona for a full 50 lap race, never got over taken, and i caught up to the bottom 4 racers solo :D

Well thanks, but the problem is this is in NASCAR Academy, i.e. the special event, where you have no control over your car setup. I was thinking more things I personally could do.

This has been discussed many times before. ASM is slowing you down.

Easiest way to disable ASM is to set ABS to 0. If not, set ABS to 10 and the brake balance to 0/0.

I would like to see the NASCAR setup if you would not mind?

I use the Jimmie Johnson Chev Nascar:
892bhp

Rear - 40

Transmission:
242mph - if your planning on doing solo.
249mph - if your gonna draft until last lap.

LSD:
Initial - 60
Acceleration - 60
Braking - 15

Suspension:
Ride height - +10 or +15 - Front and Rear (im still trying to work out what is best)

Spring Rate - 18.5 - Front and Rear

Dampers Extension -
Front - 8
Rear - 4

Dampers Compression -
Front -8
Rear - 4

Anti Roll Bars - 4 - Front and Rear

Camper Angel -
Front - 3.0
Rear - 3.0

Toe Angel -
Front - 0.00
Rear - 0.20

Breakes -
Front - 2
Rear -2 (For Indy)

Front - 1

You can't turn off the ABS so you have to lower it to 1. On Daytona you need to get as close behind the blue car that goes around the outside of the Energizer car on the finish line bend. Do not draft the Energizer car. Follow the blue car around the finish line bend as tight as you can on the outside of the Energizer car. then move to the edge and you can draft the blue car around the first long bend. Follow it around, it will start pulling away, stay slightly wider on the bend than it to maximise draft, you should be something like 1.6-1.7 seconds behind when you start the second straight, anything better and you've done pretty well. Stick behind the blue car on the straight and you will move up to the next corner (Turn driving line off, it's a distraction on this course) on that next corner do not lift off the accelerator and you will have far more pace than the other cars, letting you move up to the back of the pack for the start of the second lap. You can start overtaking the green fords on the finish line banking and continue to move up through the pack on the inside. Be careful not to bash into anyone or you will be DQ'ed. Keep drafting and overtaking on the back straight and dive down onto the inside line and take the lead, as much as it takes to squeeze through without knocking other cars (maybe even with 2 wheels verging on the flat on the inside of the bend) then switch to a view where you can see behind and forward and block any challenges, (there shouldn't be any if you've held enough pace out of the bend).

Took me about 15 tries last night to get gold

Hope this Helps

You used to be able to set ABS to 0, you still can if you haven't updated the game to 1.05 or above.

Anyway, ABS 10 is the next best setting to 0. ASM presses on the brakes for you when it detects under or oversteer so therefore if you set ABS to 10, less brake pressure will be applied and it won't slow you down as much.

The reason why ASM will be turned off when ABS is set to 0 is to prevent random lockups as it is being activated.

The problem is I cant even get to second. Or third, or fourth, or in the case of Daytone, 9th :guilty:

I did this one again, recently (I've done them all twice as my sig shows...) without the ability to turn off ABS/ASM. I noticed 2 things: The car you're trying to draft is itself drafting and pulls ahead, but the key is accuracy. You have to sit EXACTLY behind him to get max effect, and when he pulls to the left at the end of the straight you have to follow him. You will fall behind a bit in the curve but the other cars touch the wall as they leave the curve (sparks etc) which slows them down a tad. You catch them on the second straight and start drafting with much more effect as you enter the second curve.
This took many attempts because the slightest contact through the last curve disqualifies you.
Keep at it mate and you'll make it.
