Well I give up on this I am level 29 and have been playing this game since it came out.
I am very patient and have been doing the nascar series on extreme for over 12 months now I can walk the first 4 races but for just coming up to a year gone bye and the final race on this championship has beaten me, well I can win if each time I was between lap 5 and lap 10 the rest of the cars didn't smash me off the track everytime, I have tried going high going low even took to the flat left side of the yellow line to avoid collision but no, I have raced this track 1648 times and everytime I have been smashed off and not finished or ended up finishing 12th. I have tuned my car and can lead by 3-4 secs but when I do the pack behind develop super powers and overtake me at what seems like 290mph+ then when I overtake them on the straight they all come behind me and smash me off in some style I even got a trophy for rolling the car after one smash.
Is this a glich in the game or is it possible? I just wanted to know if it is me or the game before I pass it to the nipper next door to add to his collection. Enough is enough. I don't think I will be bothering with GT6 as I can't do this one.

Perfectly possible, I needed to go to Cargo_Rat for advice before I quite grasped how NASCAR works.

Stick to the yellow line mid corner, it keeps you away from the AI - try to make your last draft sprint on the very last lap to get into first and block them on the final 'straight' if you need to.

I was in the same position you're in, getting bashed off track on the last couple laps - after doing what Cargo suggested I nailed it first try.

Just tried again got smashed into from behind on 10 lap trying to block one car other comes past on other side then close in to me and I went from 1st to twelve in secs.
It's late here nearly 1am thanks for your advice. seems to make a lot more sense than what I have been doing for ages. I will give it another go in the morning see if I get any joy. It is a shame but the fun has gone out of it for me now maybe I need to take a long break or give gt a miss from now on. Must be an age thing I am not getting any younger I can't remember how old I was when I purchased gt1 brand new on release day but now I am 49 and the reflexes must be slowing lol Thanks again take care.

I wouldn't say that, the AI in that race are brutal.

It's just a matter of figuring them out and working out how the drafting works; just try and avoid them in the corners by staying just above that yellow line and there generally isn't a problem.

Game over for me on this one. Tried another 20+times again no matter what I do the AI cars hunt me down and smash me into the wall or the grass. Final straw last go lap 10 drafted beautifull into first with a 244mph pace from the draft was over a second infront and the second and third car caught me up with speeds which must be in the region of 270+mph how I don't know so I blocked one car which then hit me up the rear normally this is not a problem but this time a simple rear end shunt sent me spinning like I had lost a wheel. During mr attempts earler I tried staying low to the yellow line to avoid the AI but they come low I go high they go high. My patience is long but this is the end of my GT career before I get tempted to shout at it. GT 1 2 3 4 completed fully gt5 has me beaten one silly race which polyphony have turned into a destruction derby and forgotton it is nascar drafting nudging all out racing. Disc must now go into the Chimenea to avoid any more temptation. Thanks for the advice gents and ladies.
Ps. My wifes friends son has just offered £150 for the ps3 if I am not using it anymore tempting very tempting first need to see how much a blueray player is going to cost me. Again Thanks take care good luck and all the best to the battlers who continue the quest off GT.

I had the same exact problem as you but I found a decent tuning for my 2011 Dale Earnhardt Jr. #88 Impala that helped me take 1st place after 3 to 5 times due to me having to get use to the way it handled.
It makes the steering just a bit touchy and stiff but it really helps keep them off your rear a little in the turns.

Here's the settings I used that helped me out.

Under Body/Chassis
Aero
F=20. R=40
No ballast

Under Transmission
Reset to default then set the Top Speed to 236 which will give you top speed of 240.

Under Drivetrain

Adjustable LSD

Initial Torture = 60
Acceleration Sensitivity = 60
Breaking Sensitivity = 15

Under Suspension

Ride Height
F=15. R=15
Spring Rate
F=18.5. R=18.5
Dampers (ext)
F=8. R=4
Dampers (comp)
F=8. R=4
Anti-roll bars
F=4. R=4

Wheel Alignment

Camber Angle (-)
F=6.0. R=1.8
Toe Angle
F=-0.15. R=0.00

Under Brakes
F=6. R=5

Then set your antilock brakes to 1

After that is done enjoy the ride.

I hope this will help you just as much as it did for me and good luck.

A really good race to get the trophy for beating it by .050 of a second. I have a hard time with B-spec Bob beating it. I always seem to end the race mid pack

Thanks bud but I have binned the game. Glad you found a solution to the race. And thanks for your time.

Well, I was going to help you out with this and even went and just ran it again just to see if anything has changed, but seeing as you have just given it up, I guess my input isn't needed here. Have a good gentleman.

Sorry for costing you time and thanks for trying to help, Yes I gave up spent enough of my spare time on this rubbish now onwards and forwards to a different hobby ooohhhh the choices I don't know what I am going to do.

I had similar thoughts, so last night I decided to give this Daytona race a few trys again.

I puchased a new NASCAR, changed the oil, and found a position on the starting grid. I ran 8 races, and won 2 of them.:cool: Great fun!

I found the races pretty much as I remember them (so I don't think that all of the game's updates have made much of a difference), the AI gets argy-bargy:eek: during the last lap when you are going for the win.:scared: During one of my races, my NASCAR ended up on its roof (which made it hard to maintain my drafting position, so last place was the result).:grumpy:

I settled on the following methology to win my races:
1) During laps 1 thru 8, stay in the left lane (mostly) and maintain between 4th and 8th place, sometimes getting passed, and sometimes taking back a position.
2) During lap # 9, draft up into 3rd place. Once there you may need to block a little to maintain your 3rd place position.
3) During lap # 10, draft up into 2nd place. I sometimes needed to fender rub the 2nd place car to get him to move out of the way.:sly::trouble:
4) Draft past the 1st place car as you come to the Finish Line. I would ease back off the 1st place car going thru the last turn to give myself some room to get a drafting run on the 1st place car as we streak into the tri-oval.

I found that taking the lead before the final straight is pretty much futile because the AI will just overpower you (blocking from the lead usually results in being crashed out). The AI have a huge drafting speed advantage over your car once you take over 1st place and your NASCAR throws out the anchor.:sick:

See you on the track!

Well I had a look but couldn't find a thread on the Special Events but here go's I took my disc from the bin and decided to give it another go on the special events some are easy some are tricky but achievable some are damn right stupid and impossible. My main hate on driving is rallying yet I did the rally one no problem not the one with the snow tracks gave up on that one it's stupid. Now the top gear track with the vw buses this is impossible the van will not build up enough speed to go past two vans never mind trying win. Has anyone who has not cheated done this and also the last one beat Vettel are you having a laugh it is impossible too, no one without cheating has done this I will call you a liar to your face if you say you achieved gold on this.
What I am getting at is why do they make it so stupidly hard or impossible when it supposed to be a game it takes all the fun out of it.
Oh yes tracks with rain stupid stupid idea and pointless, bronze was achieved by me in the merc special event but gold ha ha ha no chance. Polyphony stop being w*****s and make the game fun and achievable not impossible well for those of us who don't cheat. And scrap the stupid Nascar events Nascar is seriously bad it's garbage in real life so lets not spoil a game putting it on there. Thanks Polyphony hope your listening.

None of those events are as hard as you are making them out to be. They are all possible, just takes a little time and practice is all. Yes, some are harder than others, but that's the challenge of the game. I mean, if you want easy, go find an arcade-style race game. And yes, I have golded ALL challenges without cheating, including the Vettal one. :cheers:

Well done that man/woman if you have golded all events then I take my hat off to you.
You must have spent some ridiculous amount of time on it to do that but if your happy doing that then roll with it.
I did gold on all the licences and the first three stages on driving but when it got to extreme stage I only did a few races as it stopped being fun for me.
My problem is it is to difficult for someone like myself who has no desire to spend hours and hours honing a certain race as I don't find this fun, maybe I have missed the point I thought it was a game fun and that but it is more a challenge for the serious tryhards of this kind of thing.
You have some good advice there I should really get myself a game which is more fun than challenge now I have got as far as I can be bothered to go on gt5, lets be honest if you try a race and find it ridiculous and believe it impossible then your probably on the wrong game, Any advice on what to spend my money on? I heard the Burnout games supposed to be good for fun.

Thank you, but there are many other people that have completed the game aswell. For me, I started out just like you, just playing the game for fun. I wasn't even interested in completing the game when I first started as all I did for the first 8 months was race NASCAR cars. Hell, when I first got the game, I couldn't even keep a car on the track. :lol: But, there came a point when racing NASCAR cars got kind of boring and mundane for me so I decided to explore other parts of the game. Long story short, I was hooked. Decided to try and complete the game and hone my skills. I am just one of those types of people that when I set out to do something, I don't give up until the task is completed. Each person is different. My situation is also different as I am on disability and not able to do much more, which is the reason why I decided to dedicate myself to this game, not to mention that I love playing every day. In my case, I have found something in life that I am able to do and be decent at. My passion is time trialing, and if you follow my posts in the WRS TT threads, you will see more about who I am and what I'm about. I am no one special, just someone who has a deep desire to be the best at what I do. You seem very different, which is fine.

You can still have fun with this game as a casual gamer. You just have to not get yourself all worked up because you can't complete a certain event. Just move on to a different part of the game and have fun. Yes, this is a sim-type game and may not be for everyone just looking for an easier level of game play. I can't give you any advice on any other games as the only ones I play are this one, Forza 4, and NASCAR The Inside Line. The latter two only get about 10% of my playing time.

So, having said all that, the only real advice I can give you is stick with GT5 and just have fun with it and not take it so seriously, or, look around for a game that is more arcadish in nature. Anyways, do hope you continue playing the game and will help you along if I can. GT is a great series which can be enjoyed by anyone. Its all up to you in how you chose to look at it. If it frustrates you so much that you're not having fun, then move onto another game in which you do have fun and enjoy. Hope this helps you out a little. :cheers:

I am not as dedicated to the game as yourself and I know if I was I wouldn't get gold on some/a lot of the races events I know I would think oh screw this after doing the same race about ten times. I have in the past raced a race hundreds of times trying to win but never could I race it over and over again the same day my races are spaced out sometimes 2-3 a day sometimes 10 times a day, I suppose it is what you yourself dedicate to, I am a darts player darts is what I dedicate myself to90% of the time I have got to a level where I am challenging for the big tv events in europe I have only managed to get on tv twice and lost both times to a certain dutchman who is five times champion of the world but this does not deter me I believe I will get there this is my passion this is what I have a deep desire for darts it is what I do. GT was just a pastime to unwind and have fun. I got a bit hooked I suppose after completing the other gt games 1-4 did a bit in gt5 prologue but never got around to completing it then bought gt5 when it became available. I played it a lot of days but never took it serious, I have slowly crept up through the ranks I am now 30 or 31 can't remember without looking, and this is when I got to the extreme part I have done some but others like the historic race which is on extreme or the one below I missed as I can never find a car worth racing in this event I did try the Countach but that was useless and gave the race a miss.
I did as you said explore different parts of the game that's when I ended up on the special events which for me need dedication and many hours play to hone in on golds so I gave it a miss too. It's not that I couldn't on some of the events it's just not important to me and begins to bore me. I do find some to hard and cannot see a way to gold I will be honest I am not the best racer in town. The other thing I have is I have not got any downloads for the game I can't even buy the lambo aventador as my PSN account will not work it is being sorted by playstation help but as been in this process for a while now. I think my annoyance comes with the game as everything which is achievable to gold level-Licences all the races up to extreme I have done and all that is left is the difficult ones so when I switch from race to race they are all tricky ones this is where I get bored and annoyed at it maybe I have reached my level. I know I won't win the races on the later levels but as I have won all below maybe I am expecting the impossible from myself. I will give it a go now and again see if anything changes or I become Schumacheresque :) and if I progress anymore I will drop a post to say so.
Thanks for your words patience and advice. 👍

I know the NASCAR events are a pain. But, I got through the Top Gear special events no problem. The trick to the vans is to brake late in the last two corners. For the second to last corner you want to come in wide and finish with a nice tight turn. That's usually where I pass the 1st and 2nd place cars in the vans and Elise races. The Schwimmwagon is pretty easy and fun as long as you don't get in a collision. Also, the Nurb challenges are going to be pretty hard. I couldn't even get bronze. I decided to try a few cars on the track and then got sucked in to the complexity, and now it's my favorite track. I can still barely manage gold on the challenges, but I enjoy the game to race cars that I might never have a chance to drive IRL.

In the top gear track events I finished 4th in the first one with the vw vans don't know how just refused to brake and slid it around, the second one with the elise no finish achieved couldn't get it go around the track without getting disqualified sliding off or crashing or so far behind the others gave up on it and gold in the third event with the hitler mobile. I will try them again after football tomorrow thanks for the advice. Nascar events I have disregarded as stupid and have no plans to attempt them again. My theory is if it aint fun it's pointless doing it. I know the purists will shout at me but I have big shoulders and don't worry :) :)

I've read all your posts & understand your frustration. There's a few challenges I can't gold, namely Vettel, Loebe & 2 events in the Grand Tour, although I've gotten at least bronze in them. All the rest, I've gotten gold, as well as all the seasonals. I'm 65 & have played GT since #1, using a controller, no wheel. One thing I noticed is that you never mentioned playing online. If you haven't, you're missing a huge amount of fun factor, especially if you race with a good core group of friends. Don't give up on GT5 yet, unless you feel you've gotten all there is in it for you.

I can't go online as my psn account is out of order due to the email I used to set it up getting hacked and hotmail deleting the email address. I am sorting it with psn help hopefully it will be done soon, To be honest I have never attempted to go online I will have to give it a shot when I can, Thanks for that advice,
I to don't use a wheel prefer controller. I have been back on the top gear test track today and can't better 4th in the vw bus, The second with the elise I still can't finish two laps without being disqualified, after about 6 attempts on it I moved to the extreme level to attempt that dreamcar championship got gold on the first race but fail miserably on the second in the rain that's where I finished for today as I am going darts practice now.
I will keep on plodding at it see if I get better. The most enjoyable way to play gt I have found is ignore the daft races like nascar and that vettel one as these are the annoying ones. most other things like the special challenges are fun just keep plodding around one day a good time will come.

This Vw bus race is having a laugh I have got into 1st place on the second to last bend by going wide around the two vans infront I have not touched the two vans in front and I definetley did not leave the track not even with one wheel and each time soon as I pass them I am disqualified, I thought I must have hit a cone or something so done it another few times and there are no cones there to hit so why do I get disqualified????
I just take the bend wide catch up with the two in front as they are braking into the inside of the track and soon as I pass them big DQ. any help please.

Don't matter I have done it now don't know why it DQ me but on the last go it didn't only difference been I got into first coming past the tyres and carried on I was expecting a DQ when I took the bend before Gambon but no it let me win happy days.
Started with that lotus on the next race still can't complete 2 laps with out skidding out or DQ think this one might be filed in the oh dear forget that race bin. Now moved onto b-spec see if my driver has stopped being a blouse and overtakes when I tell him. He may be sacked after this race it's all on the line for him.

Your'e going too far out of the track's "boundaries". You'd be surprised how late you can brake on the second-to-last turn. Try to take the inside line to pass the two leaders next time. Once you pass them you can almost coast into the finish line.

I would go back to the event for more tips, but a new episode of Top Gear is coming on in about 20mins

I couldn't even get bronze on the Loeb rally event, then I just went back in one day and golded it second or third try. My best advice for that one is (generally) to stay one gear above recommended and instead of coasting, maintaining, or blasting through the corners try tapping the throttle (on/off/on/off) once the car starts responding to turn inputs. And, of course, no tcs!

Grand tour is a tough one, especially with a controller, but unless you want gold you get all the same things just for completion of the event I believe.

Vettel is hard as well, I only ever got gold on Monza, but that was only because I was testing tuners cars on that track for a week or so before I tried the event.

This blew my mind for a few seconds then I realised your over in the states I watched the last episode of the new series over a week back. To make sense it is now Tuesday am 01:27.

I'm using auto because my co-ordination is off, so trying your method is out of the question. I'm ok with not golding these events because most of my time is spent tuning my cars & racing online with my best online friends & of course doing the Seasonals. 👍

I just had a look at the Leob rally event I have a bronze on the first track can't remember doing it to be honest, Nothing on the other two races don't know if I not attempted them or failed miserably and give them a miss! will have a go tomorrow. Vettel one the car is just to fast for me I have done the first one in a time of 5.17.683 I know this as I saved the replay I know I am sad but it was to show my son when he got home that time got me nothing but at least I got around with out crashing off, then I looked at the target times laughed a lot and moved away from that race it's far to silly for my skills or lack of them :) Haven't done that Grand Tour one that will be tried tomorrow too if bronze is good enough that's good enough for me.

Back on the top gear track second race with the elise, after quite a few attempts and not getting a finish I decided to try this Traction control I stepped it up from 1-10 and tried a few laps each time still no finish unless it's 12th driving at 30mph.
I know some of you lot have done this and well done, me I think I could race it for a year and not get a bronze. I wonder where I am going wrong? most the time I get dq is when overtaking and an ai car touches me in the side the rest of the time the car just spins the back end and slides of the track but if I don't try and speed up and give it the beans I get left well behind and have no chance of trophy.

Thanks for your time and answers but that's Cheating I don't do cheats in any game never have never will. I can't see the point in cheating you have not won if you cheat so what's the point? I would rather fail trying the right way than cheat and daydream I did it.
