Try mapping the controls to your controller that allow putting up that quick assist switching thing so you can turn off ASM by going through that. Unless the update grays out that too.
 
I managed to beat the last one of that challenge. Don't ask me how it happened, I moved the stick so carefully not to smack into the wall or the home depot car when trying to draft in the absolute beginning, and was right in the corect draft. If you have contact, You could win pretty easily. God helped me there. :)

But I just can't beat the other two. There's just soooo small margins for even 0.000001 second too long of moving the DS3 stick.

I wish PD would let people customize some things about certain challenges.

I for example completed the "X Challenge" on bronze today. I just can not get gold, that's impossible with a DS3. :grumpy:
 
At Indy try braking late in the corners, but not so much that you slide completely out. It's very finesse and takes more than a few tries to get used to. As for the pit stop one...I just got lucky. No idea.

P.S. I hate Jeff Gordon and his sport and the currents of air.

Put physics and rednecks together and I probably don't like it...

this ^^

unless the update changed things...what you want to do is map the RA function (from the DFGT) to one of the controller buttons...as the race is starting you click the button...scroll down to ASM and turn it off...you can leave ABS on...

that is how i did it...

Edit: seems the update DID change this...took me quite a few tries to get gold, but its certainly still doable...

i feel bad for those just getting to this now...when we were able to turn ASM off using the RA function it made this challenge, AND the Daytona race during the NASCAR A-Spec event a BREEZE...

i should have tried, but does anyone know if you can't turn off ASM in the A-Spec Events now?

I just did this one on my second game save. If you take 3rd place too early, you are too far back from 1st and 2nd and wont catch their slipstream early enough to win
 
Go onto YouTube and do a search for videos of the guys completing this. It will help you a lot to see it done.
I was incredibly frustrated in my efforts in all the NASCAR challenges until I did. Now I have them all gold.
Final challenge key for me was being certain that I was directly drafting behind the LOWES car, you might think you're centered behind him, but look at the road marks that he passes over.
