What kind of wheel could we possibly get for 14.99 I wonder?

Edit: Now that I've looked, I'm not hoping for much.

i read some weeks ago that Volkswagen was trying to come to Nascar, anything new about that?

They were actually trying to get one of their brands into Grand-Am, a series owned by Nascar.

From Jayski-

dreamGEAR announced a licensing partnership with NASCAR and is producing NASCAR-branded gaming accessories for racing video game titles on the market. Compatible with all Playstation3 (PS3) and Nintendo Wii racing games, the new NASCAR-branded dreamGEAR wheels will give gamers the feel of being on the racetrack, while showcasing the look of iconic NASCAR racecar wheels. dreamGEAR worked with NASCAR to give racing game enthusiasts an experience at every turn much like their favorite NASCAR drivers. Simulating the excitement of real-life steering wheels, the NASCAR-branded dreamGEAR wheels have a larger grip and lifelike feel than other video game wheels currently on the market. The NASCAR inspired wheel design provides a combination of aesthetics and practicality with full rubberized sidings for enhanced comfort and brackets for authentic styling. The two new NASCAR racing wheels for PS3 and Wii attach to or hold a Wii Controller or a PS3 wireless controller, making it possible for gamers to grip the wheel and simulate actual racing. Both racing wheels will be available in the first quarter of 2010 in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. These new products will be introduced at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Jan. 7 10, 2010 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, booth Central 7905 and will be available in the first quarter of 2010 at dreamGEAR.net and retail stores nationally. The Nintendo Wii and PS3 racing wheels are $14.99

new NASCAR game?

WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I think you misread it. It's a 14.00 Racing wheel.

This or something similar I'd imagine...

Look out!

My dad heard something yesterday that possibly as soon as Daytona they could switch the wings back to a spoiler to help keep the cars on the ground.

Good, I'm pretty sure the wings don't help the cars out much, notice the most horrendous flips in recent memory have been since the high CG, winged COT made it's debut. Besides, the spoiler looks better.

I like the wing as it has allowed drivers to try more adventurous passes and save the cars. The spoiler looses a ton of DF with yaw while the wings endplates dont and also help straighten it out

If this is the case, still the same model car or wil they be changing the shape of it?

Not sure if this article has been shown so far, just wondering what you guys think about it. I think Danica Patrick will have a good season, Nascar is a tough sport and not everyone can put in consistent years.

http://www.nascar.com/2010/news/headlines/bg/01/09/kpetty.opinion.dpatrick.ap/index.html

I think she'll do ok. I like Kyle Petty, but this:

If she's not successful the only impact she'll have on the sport is she wasted two or three years on a car that a good driver could have been in and could have been developing.

Was not a very nice thing to say.

So what's his excuse for the last 10+? :P

As far as the spoiler deal goes, Jayski is reporting that NASCAR will announce it January 21st, with the first race being Bristol or Martinsville in March.

Chris.

UK NASCAR FANS

Keith Huewens blog:

NO MORE NASCAR
09-01-2010
Sad news reached me on holiday in Thailand; Sky Sports has not secured the NASCAR Cup series for 2010. So, after a relatively short but hectic two years, NASCAR has left us.

Question is, have they lost it to someone else, or are they just not trying?

That royal sucks big hairy ones if no-one is showing it in the UK... I'll be back to watching crappy streams of it again ... grrrr.

Piquet Jr. is going to the truck series.

Piquet to test again for RHR UPDATE testing this week; to NASCAR with RHR? Ex-Formula One driver Nelson Piquet Jr is scheduled for a second truck test with Red Horse Racing on Jan. 13-14 at New Smyrna Speedway. Piquet might run the truck series' season opener at Daytona International Speedway even if he returns to F1, where he is mulling an offer. Running the full truck season also is a possibility for Piquet, who will be joined at the truck test by two-time Porsche Cup GT3 champion Miguel Paludo.(USAToday)(12-12-2009)
UPDATE: Former Renault Formula One driver Nelson Piquet Jr. said Tuesday he is moving to NASCAR. Piquet Jr. said that after his "first 18 months in F1 did not go as planned I have decided to focus on something different and have chosen to take a route in America." NASCAR will be the "ultimate challenge," Piquet Jr. said. He did not reveal which team he would race for but says more details will come soon.(AP/ESPN.com)(1-12-2010)

So the Open-wheel invasion continues.

Given the stringent, spec rules in the NASCAR series, it could be just the place for Piquet to redeem himself. Any future success in F1 might be looked at in doubt given the wake of scandal he's left. If he could impress in NASCAR it would be harder to discount his ability I think. To be honest, I really don't like him at all, but it would definetly draw publicity to NASCAR both in the states and internationally. After all Piquet won't smear the integrity of NASCAR, but NASCAR just might help Piquet get his own back.

Or make him look a bit foolish trying.

Or make him look a bit foolish trying.

I don't think it would make him look foolish if he fails, really the only successful open wheel convert has been JPM and possibly AJ Allmendinger who is looking good.

Anybody wanna take bets and see how long it will take him to crash?

I think I just found the most imaginative and funniest story ever:

Speedtv.com
* Danica Patrick, the subject of intense scrutiny, begins her
stock car career in the ARCA race at Daytona International Speedway
with a solid victory. Shades of Kyle Petty, Ryan Newman and Joey
Logano, all of whom got off to a great start in ARCA. Maybe this girl
really is a pretty good race driver.

* Mark Martin starts his 51st year on the planet by finally winning the
Daytona 500, coming out of the pack in one of those typical last-lap DIS
cavalry charges to nip teammates Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson and
Jeff Gordon at the wire. Of course, the 1-2-3-4 Hendrick finish enrages
many NASCAR fans. Here we go again.

* Danica moves into a Nationwide Series car and begins her “real’’
stock car education. She acquits herself well, but finishes outside the
top 20. This could take a while.

* Week Two of the Sprint Cup season looks very different than Daytona,
with Juan Pablo Montoya, Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards fighting it out
for supremacy in California. In the end, Montoya whacks Stewart,
sending both spinning and Edwards goes through the middle unscathed to
win for the first time in Cup since 2008. The Hendrick boys? Blown
engines, crashes and pit mistakes relegate all four of them to the
middle of the pack.

* The IZOD IndyCar Series finally gets under way in Brazil – and nobody
cares. Starting its season outside the U.S. isn’t a great way to get
American race fans to pay attention. Still, it’s a fun race, with
Danica challenging defending champion Dario Franchitti and series
runner-up Scott Dixon for the win before settling for third place.

* The first Talladega race of the season produces yet another ”Big One,’’ this time taking out half the 42-car field on the first lap.
And, yes, it was Brad Keselowski who got it going – with a little help
from Denny Hamlin. Oh yeah, Edwards won again. Nice backflip – and without the car this time.

* It’s May and time for the Indianapolis 500. Danica has been running
really well in the early going and speculation runs high at a track
where she is always competitive. The excitement grows as the queen of open-wheel racing wins the pole and goes into the 94th Indy classic as
co-favorite with three-time winner and defending champion Helio
Castroneves. DanicaMania is rampant in the world. In the race, it’s nip
and tuck, but Patrick gets out of the pits ahead by a nose on the final
fuel stop and holds on to keep Spider Man off the fence. Suddenly,
Indy is really big again. Thanks Danica.

* The big ongoing story in Sprint Cup is that Hendrick Motorsports is
struggling. Roush Fenway, Joe Gibbs Racing, Richard Childress Racing
and Penske Racing have all caught up and passed the big boys. Not only
is Jimmie Johnson no longer the favorite to win an unprecedented fifth
straight Cup title, the odds of him making the 12-man Chase for the
championship aren’t so good at this point.

* Kyle Busch is having a dream season, winning races in Cup, in
Nationwide and in his own truck. He’s also on his best behavior,
strumming the winner’s trophy in Nashville instead of smashing it.

* Thanks to Danica, people are demanding Versus on their cable systems
and the IndyCar ratings are climbing. There are actually more people
watching on TV now than sitting in the grandstands at the IndyCar
races. And they’re seeing some great racing as Patrick, Franchitti,
Dixon, Ryan Briscoe, Castroneves, Will Power and Graham Rahal are all
separated in the championship battle by 25 points.

* Uh oh! Here comes JJ. Crew chief Chad Knaus has suddenly found
something and Johnson has run off three wins in a row and is up to
eighth in the points. And Junior is suddenly running in the top five
every week, along with Martin and Gordon. Hendrick is back.

* Going into the September Richmond race, the battle to get into the 12-man Chase is a good one. Nine drivers are bunched from ninth place through 17, separated by 40 points. Oh yeah, the top four are Johnson, Martin, Gordon and the resurgent Earnhardt Jr., with Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart close behind.

* The Chase is set, with all the usual suspects and one shocker - Robby Gordon, who finally found time away from his off-road racing to put together the best stock car season of his career and earn the all-important 12th position in the postseason.

* The IndyCar Series comes down to Homestead, the last race of the season. Tickets are scarce and excitement is almost off the hook as Danica, who has won four races in 2010, goes into the final event holding a 10-point lead over both Franchitti and Dixon. It all comes down to the final lap and the lady does it again, holding off her challengers by inches in a three-way, side-by-side-by-side finish that has the full house on its collective feet cheering. Sitting atop team owner Michael Andretti’s shoulders holding the championship trophy, Patrick yells, “Now, we’re going to go drive that stock car for a while.’’

* Yes, now that the wild IndyCar season is over, Danica can get back to working on her future in NASCAR. Back in the JR Motorsports Chevy for the Nationwide race at Charlotte, she looks like a rookie again, spinning twice and finishing 31st.

* It looks like Jimmie Johnson’s historic bid for a fifth straight Cup title is finished. Consecutive 37th-place finishes at Martinsville (engine) and Talladega (early crash) have relegated JJ to fifth place, 212 points behind Hamlin, again the most consistent driver in the postseason.

* Wait a minute, here comes JJ. Consecutive wins at Texas and Phoenix have brought him within 41 points of the suddenly stumbling Hamlin heading into the season-finale at Homestead. Hamlin says, “I’m not feeling any pressure. My team has been waiting two years for this moment.’’ Johnson answers, “My team has been here before. We’ll be ready.’’

* While Kyle Busch sweeps both the Truck and Nationwide championships, wrapping them up with victories in the two preliminary races at Homestead – his 24th and 25th wins of the season – Danica finishes second in the Nationwide event and says, “I can hardly wait for Daytona. I think I’m getting the hang of this.’’

* Finally, the long season is over, but things don’t seem much different. New dad Jimmie Johnson is the champion yet again, running away with an easy victory at Homestead after Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin collided under caution early in the race. Keselowski and Hamlin are each blaming each other. Johnson is drinking champagne with car owners Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon, who finished third in the points, just ahead of teammates Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Kyle Busch, who won nine Cup races and wound up sixth in the points, says, “We’ll be the team to beat in 2011. Bet on it.’’

Hey, it could happen.

This gave me quite the chuckle.

I have a better bet, who will wreck more cars, him or Steven Wallace.

 I'm putting my money (which is not nearly as much as whats spent on those wrecked race cars) on JWT having the most wrecked cars, though Steve and Piquet could give him a serious run for his money...which has also been spent on wrecked race cars.

I think the Nationwide series has the ideal race distance. The only three races that should stay at their current length are the Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600 and Brickyard 400.

What about Darlington, Bristol and Martisville? They all deserve at least one 500 miler. Richmond too.

Otherwise, I'd agree.

Otherwise, I'd agree.

That would make them twice as long.:p

They do deserve 500 laps though.

Edit: If you want to watch the chase you will have to have cable/satellite.

Crap like that is why I wish Fox did all the races, at least everyone would be able to watch.

Even better, how many cars will Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski wreck before the set their differences aside. :p

Dude that article is full of win.

Fall California race shortened, Phoenix race lengthened

Now when are they going to shorten Pocono. I would like to see Texas and Atlanta shortened to 400 miles. No race, in my opinion, outside obvious choices like the 500 or the coke 600 should last well over 3 hours

Nelson Piquet Jr confirms move to NASCAR for 2010

Hopefully we get to see Piquet run a full truck season, starting at Daytona.

I'm beating a dead horse here, but one California race should be dumped, it's a boring race and nobody watches it.

+1 on Pocono, 500 miles is way too long for that track, it's more of an enduro race that we would expect from ALMS or Grand Am, not NASCAR.

Spoiler alert!

NASCAR to transition back to the spoiler, get rid of wing: NASCAR informed teams Friday that it has scheduled an open test at Charlotte Motor Speedway as part of an upcoming transition from a front wing to a rear spoiler. The change had been discussed individually with teams, but nothing had been formally announced before the Friday memo to crew chiefs from Sprint Cup Series director John Darby. "To help put some of the rumor mills to rest, I am sending you the following facts as they relate to changes for 2010," Darby wrote in the memo, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. "We will be transitioning from the usage of the current wing to an aluminum spoiler." NASCAR will hold an informational meeting for teams in mid-March, and the spoiler will be tested March 23-24 at CMS. No race has been selected for the spoiler debut, but the March 28 event at Martinsville is the earliest the change could be implemented based on the timeline outlined by Darby. The season opens Feb. 14 with the Daytona 500, and Martinsville is the sixth race on the schedule. Darby explained in the memo that NASCAR's goal in returning to a rear spoiler is to adjust the downforce and balance that is being produced on the current car.
NASCAR in 2007 phased in a new model of race car that replaced the spoiler with a front wing. Many drivers were slow to adapt to the new car, which went to full-time use in 2008, and fans have claimed the car has made the racing boring. NASCAR last May began a series of town hall and individual meetings with teams, and one of the constant cries from participants was a need to alter the car design. The decision to actually do so has come from offseason meetings with drivers, but the timing means teams will have to scramble to adjust inventory that's already been prepared for this coming season.
Darby said the size and shape of the spoiler will not be determined until NASCAR has a chance to do wind tunnel testing on the car, and once decided, a supplier will be selected to produce the part. Teams will have to purchase the spoiler from the selected supplier. NASCAR will introduce the rule change Thursday [Jan 21st] at the Sprint Media Tour. Other changes anticipated include allowing drivers to bump draft at Daytona and Talladega and giving drivers more control over policing the garage. Also under consideration is doing away with the yellow line rule at Daytona and Talladega, although many drivers are opposed to that.(Associated Press/ESPN)(1-15-2010)

Spoiler alert!

 Win

Glad to see they are getting rid of the wing, though it'd be nice if they got rid of the car too. Guess thats one problem out of the way.
