If you are talking about the Stewart/Said collision, that could have been easily avoided simply by Stewart backing off when he tried to rejoin. It had nothing particularly to do with Stewart running wide into the runoff area and trying to rejoin. It had to do with Stewart trying to force his way back in line when there was already another driver in the way.

Now, I'm not trying to say that Tony intentionally put Boris into the wall, because I don't think that is what he was trying to do, but he certainly intentionally hit him to try and push him out of the way rather than slow down and let him pass. Stuff like that is going to happen no matter where on the track you are.
 
Montoya wins. Finally, he sealed the deal. I hate that Marcos could battle him to the win like I wanted, but a 3rd today is alot better then the 7th he got at Sonoma.
 
Well, despite all the yellows, Montoya won, and that was fair. I actually was expecting another yellow in the last laps to ruin his 2,5sec lead and make it "more interesting", glad it didn't.

The Stewart/Said incident? Well it's Stewart. He will never back down, even if that means taking out someone in the process.

Said did nothing wrong. But he let himself in a position were he could be "bullied" or taken out. He said he admires Stewart, therefore he knows him very well...

It was Said who ran Stewart off the track. Entered the turn on the inside line but did not hold the inside line and forced Stewart off the track. He could have backed off, but Tony doesn't back off.

Congrats to Montoya, but he still needs to show that he can win and be consistently up front on the ovals.
 
Said out-braked and took the place. Stewart ran a "alternate" line around the outside of a slow road course track putting himself out of the track because he doesn't back-off. Then because that "imaginary" line ends in the grass, he just ram his way back into the track/racing line, because he doesn't back-off. And that's a part of NASCAR racing.

And if it was for instance, Edwards on the inside... well maybe Stewart would have backed-off. Or maybe not and Edwards would take him out spectacularly on the next race, and again that's NASCAR.

That he did it to a weaker guy (as in: no budget to race more that 5 races a year and that can't fight back), that makes him a bully IMO. But that's still a part of normal NASCAR racing, and you have to learn to live with it and survive.

Said having any blame on that incident? No way...

Didn't see the race, the incident (side by side, door to door for instance will make it a whole different situation) or am aware of their racing "status" or "persona" in the series to have an opinion. Wish I had the time and the TV channels to watch it all, at least nation wide and trucks, every time :)

Leffler did the same. Although in a different situation. Restart. High adrenalin, low temp tires, makes a mess of it when steping on the gas on the white line and goes into traffic IMO. Still, kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Backing off yould probably make him get hit from behind by someone else going wide as well, and trying to rejoin with severall cars beside him that can't move away would result in contact as it did.

So, not intentional raming this one. More like a stupid avoidable mistake, but I really don't know Leffler (only started watching last year, and only the sprint), he can be the cleanest driver who had a bad moment.

This one makes me agree with other people that stated those run off areas should be removed, or at least reshaped to allow a smoother return to the track. It probably would have avoided both incidents.

How many other cars during managed to get through turn 1 side by side without incident? Plenty. It works OK if the guy on the inside line stays on the inside line, Said did not hold his line.

I do not blame Said solely for what happened. Seeing the replay and listening to Saids in car radio it sounded like his spotter told him he was clear when he wasn't, so Said went wide and forced Tony off the track on exit.

Feel bad for Said, he finally gets a decent ride he ended up on the wrecker.

I'm sure the main reason for the signing is the secure sponsorship, but Menard has shown he can be a decent driver as well.

You have a point. I (not being American) consider there is no inside/outside line on slow corners of a road course track, especially that one. But (and it's a BIG but) I understand how drivers can tend to hold a position as long as possible in an alternate line, and even more when they do it regularly on other tracks, mostly ovals going side by side for whole laps. Also recognize the racing "persona" of each driver has to be taken into account and Stewart does not back off. Ever. So I can accept, and I think I already said that to a point, that Said should know that could/would happen. Said was naive (and/or trusted the spoters which I didn't hear) but "blame" is IMO too strong of a word. Stewart was, if not all, at least mostly the one to blame as he new what was coming and he just didn't back off as many other did during the race, to take back the position later if he or his car could do so. Like Montoya who ended up with the win. Off course again one can say Montoya and Ambrose are very experienced and excellent road course and NASCAR drivers and Said is not, so he may have some responsability.

On a side note, I have to recongnize this forums members respect for others peoples opinion (mine at least) and the exceptionally civil discussion on a subject as delicate as racing incidents as these 👍

Unless he miraculously has a turnaround in the last chunk of the season I can't see him at Red Bull next year either. I think RPM might be a good fit, they can field 3 former road racers(Allmendinger, Ambrose(rumored) and Speed).:lol:

Now, back to my robot business.

Yeah, congratulations to Brad K. Tough luck for Danica. I recently followed her Twitter account, and she mentioned something along the lines of "thanks for your support." I think Danica is only going to get better the more she gets more seat time.

Well, any picks to win the Cup race at Michigan tomorrow? Two wild guesses of mine: Kyle Busch (always a safe pick) or Kevin Harvick.


UPDATE I am human, people... I'm sorry for the previous one. Brian Vickers somehow came to mind when I was really thinking of Kevin Harvick.

Vickers is out for the season, has been for awhile.
 
Missed the Nationwide race but saw the recap on ESPN this morning. Gotta LOL @ Danica.
 
I didn't see the race, but I did see that deliberate hit Joey Lagano put on somebody. It just looked completely deliberate. Almost like, "if you can't pass him/her, hit him/her." Good move, #20...

It wasn't deliberate, he got loose. Ryan was at the top, took the air and Side force off the car and he lost the handle on it.

Yeah, Joey definitely didn't hit Ryan on purpose. He was loose through most of the corner and couldn't keep the car from hitting Newman's.

Overall a good race.. for an oval. Looks like Paul Menard was trying to do his best "Milka Duno".

I was just gonna ask about where the Budweiser sponsorship was going, question answered. And Marcos to a Ford team(ironically what he started in before JTG went Toyota). Now that leaves two questions: What happens with the 98 and who is replacing Sadler?
