I'm looking forward to several great ps3 games this year, and I'd really like to get a decent monitor to play them on. However, I don't want to spend more than $450, and I want to be able to play 1080p content without the monitor stretching it to a 16:10 ratio. I'll also be using my computer with the monitor, so multiple inputs would be great. What would you guys recommend?

Does anyone know if a Dell E248WFP will do 1:1 pixel mapping with 1080p instead of stretching it?

I'm sitting in front of a E228WFP right now. Max res is set at 1680x1050. I don't know how to, or if I even can, check the pixel mapping, but walk me through it and I'll let you know. Granted, it will probably end up being different on the 24".

Basically what I'm trying to do is hook up my PS3 through an HDMI to DVI cable. However, monitors are 16:10 aspect ratio and the PS3 outputs in 16:9. The picture will be distorted if the monitor stretches it vertically to fit, but some monitors put black bars top and bottom so that each pixel the PS3 outputs matches up to a single pixel on the monitor. Since your monitor is a lower resolution, it probably won't work. Thanks for the offer though :)

I'm sitting in front of a 2407WFP-HC and I can select either 1:1, Aspect or Fill under "Wide Mode" in display settings..

Can't be arsed to drag the PS3 into the office right now though, but found the following using Google
It's fixed. There's fill, aspect, and 1:1, all of which work (granted I haven't tested every resolution, but I haven't ran into a problem yet).

Thanks for the info. I wonder if the E248WFP has the same settings? I would get the 2407, but it's considerably more expensive.

I have the same screen as Flerbizky has here at home, and i use it for my PS3.
the horizontal resolution is the same as 1080p so that's no problem.
Just don't use fill, since it'll stretch the image vertically :)
Best is to use aspect, since there are also 720p games :)
But you have to use the digital input, otherwise 1080p isn't allowed.

I have the ps3 on digital input and my laptop on analog input.
The only drawback of analog is that the quality of small text isn't that good.

Samsung SyncMaster 245B, 24". Is full HD. 1920x1080.

I'm using it for the PS3 and it is working perferctly. It is also HDCP ready.

Reviving thread...

In order to play GT5P with my DFP, I had to hook it up to my monitor, Dell 2407WFP-HC, as mentioned earlier. But since my DVI input was already taken by my PC, I decided to shell out for a PS3 Component cable, which I did not already own.. So, did that, set the PS3 to 1080i (max over component) - And not matter what I did, I simply couldn't get anything close to a decent picture. Think 720i with extra added jaggies and a romantic scene back when they used vasoline on the camera lenses, think 1960s Rita Hayworth before she encountered that stupid truck... But the result was far from good.

So today, I decided to try something else. I had a spare HDMI cable which came a Gfx card, so I purchased a HDMI -> DVI adapter thingy - Put that in my DVI port on the monitor end, HDMI from PS3 -> Monitor.. And behold. 1-1 pixel mapped GT5P in glorious 1080p - including black bars top and bottom... And honestly, I would be hard pressed to say I can see a noticeable difference between VGA and DVI from the PC..

All in all, Happy as a drunk pig in mud !....

My Viewsonic 28in. 1080p monitor has been pretty awesome for 360 gaming and even component gaming on my ps3 has been pretty nice. Only problem is this monitor is more than $450...

Thanks for the help so far guys. My parents ended up getting a new computer and were able to upgrade to an E248WFP for about $200. They're going to sell me the monitor, so I should be able to report back pretty soon on how I like it and whether it does 1:1 mapping. I'm looking forward to GT5P in 1080 :D

Well, I got the E248WFP today and I can confirm that it does offer 1:1 pixel mapping by way of "Image Settings" in the OSD. The GT5P demo looks amazing :D

You running HDMI -> DVI or Component ?....

HDMI -> DVI. I have my computer hooked up on VGA for now, but the monitor doesn't offer a way to switch inputs that I know of. Right now I have to shut the monitor off and unplug the VGA cable for it to switch to DVI. I'll probably end up getting a DVI switcher to resolve this issue.

All the different Dell monitors here at work have a button with a little arrow inside a "screen" on them. Everything from old 17" flats till 22" and 24" wide screens.. :odd:

How can anyone NOT be inquisitive enough to just random press the buttons when they get a new toy ;-)

Lol, I was just so happy to be playing the GT5P demo at 1080 that my curiosity went out the window. This button has made my day better :)

Does all the Dell monitors have this 1:1 pixel mapping? Even the 27" or 28" versions?

Are there other LCD monitors (brands) with 1:1 pixel mapping?

:)

Supposedly all newer Dells support 1:1 pixel mapping. Even then older ones started doing so after a firmware upgrade.

Hanns.G has a new 28" monitor.

The price is good but I cannot find any information about 1:1 mapping and what kind of panel it's using.

Hanns.G HG281DJ: http://www.hannsg.com/eu/en/

It has a 5ms response time so I guess it is a TN panel?

Does anyone have more information about the HG281DJ?

I just found an email address! I'm going to write an email and see if they answer 💡

Here's some info on the model you were questioning:
HANNSG has launched a new 28-inch widescreen monitor, the HG281DJ that offers an HDMI port (with HDCP support) and a 1920 x 1200 WUXGA true 1080p resolution.

The new display launches with the claim that whether it's for gaming or movies it delivers a "spectacularly rich colour palette and crisp, sharp images without lag for the ultimate HD experience".

The HG281DJ features a 3ms grey to grey response time, a typical 800:1 contrast ratio and 300cd/m² brightness. It boasts a viewing angle of 160 degrees and an anti-glare surface for use in bright conditions.

VESA wall mounting is possible, while there's tilt and swivel features as well as height adjustability. The new HG281DJ is available now for £399.00 from Misco.co.uk

This Hanns-G is a nice 28" 3ms monitor running 1920x1200 that I've been using for a while now with no complaints. It's great.

I'd be happy to answer any questions on it.
