Since I've been borrowing my Mom's Acura for the past year and a half, I need to find a new car. Call me crazy, but I want something totally JDM. Even if it means importing it. The only catch is, it has to be 4WD, and that's all I care about. And yes, it should be Japanese.

Explain the need for it to be "totally JDM". Then explain the need for AWD.

Then explain why you want a car that is RHD in a LHD country for no reason other than it being JDM TYTE YO, and how you're going to get anything imported.

JDM - US-spec, LHD cars are boring, and actually, pretty pricey. even used cars in my part of town are a bit on the high-end

AWD - it's Texas, you practically need AWD for the rough roads, the scattered dirt roads, and you need the more grip because of the idiot drivers we have(more grip = better chance you'll be able to swerve out of the way of an Escalade going 80mph)

importing - how else am I going to get anything like a kei-car?

...compared to trying to get a specially-imported, never-sold-in-the-US-version of a car? Uh huh. And have fun insuring it cheaply.

For the rest of it, no comment, though believe me, I'm tempted.

I've lived in Texas my entire life, and I've never needed an AWD car to get around Houston. And if you think that the LHD Japanese cars are too expensive on your part of town, then you need to stop looking at the Lexus' and set your sights a bit lower.

My advice, get a Civic. it's all you need for driving around town. And even if you do encounter dirt roads, you certainly wouldn't need AWD. you could drive literally anything on a dirt road. It's not like you're taking it mudding or anything.

I've lived in Michigan all my life... Even in winter I've not met a situation where 2WD did not suffice.

Civics tend to be a bit on the pricey side... An Accord wouldn't really lose anything but be a nicer place to be. Later Nissan Maximas with the manual trans are a decent shot too; good power, good suspension setup, and actually fairly popular in Japan's mod scene since JDM TYTENESS is so important here.

All-wheel drive gives you more cornering grip...how exactly?

how else am I going to get anything like a kei-car?
Here, find out how.

Looks like Kei cars will be tough to get your hands on. None are approved for importation because they don't pass applicable US safety regulations and/or none have ever been tested properly.

So do you actually know anything about driving? Or cars? Or how expensive importing is?

I'm starting to question that claim to an age of 22. Feels more like a 16 year warped from the year 2001.

Cause the mighty GTR that God Foot drove in Initial D, had epic grip!!

Where in Tx. do you live? No man's land?

Edit* League City? Yep, nothing a small boring stretch of road from Houston to Galveston.

Why do you need a specific JDM car imported from Japan? There are plenty of good cars sold in the US that are similar to their Japanese counterparts. Plus, if you are really concerned about cost, it will cost you way more to import ANY JDM car and make it road-legal here than to buy a Japanese car in America.

Oh, and do you really want a kei car in Texas? Imagine being hit by "an Escalade going 80mph."

Amusing.

You want a small car that's AWD, that will actually go off-road and that will be able to swerve out of the way of an Escalade at 80 mph?

Hmmmm.... PROCESSING:

But honestly... all-wheel drive, JDM-tite and small? Hello?

What you really want is a 3 wheel drive. This way, when you jam the gas pedal the car will yaw and you'll get right out of the way of that Escalade.

Didn't Suzuki make an Alto works that was turbo?

Or maybe a Pulsar GTI-R??

If MotoRex didn't get in as much trouble as they did, you could have got a Skyline. Also, I think your awesome JDM car would attract the attention of thieves, more so than a car sold here.

I got a friend here in Houston that has a RHD skyline, its an r33 (I believe) He paid over 100K to get the car and get it imported, so good luck with getting your car!
