FireLite MS2
i need to build a computer that can handle a lot of memory(i'd prefer 1 TB, max.), has a BUNCH of RAM(80 GB sound like enough?), and DVD, CD, and Blu-Ray burning capabilities. i'll add other stuff, like a built-in router, and a bunch of other goodies to make sure this thing runs absolutely(or close to) perfect.

ok, guys, just tell me what i need. and, don't worry about me being broke, i'll just piece this mutha together, one piece at a time. also, with all of the stuff going into this box, what size case would i need?

also, as an added thing, i'm going to try and get a Fire-Lite fire alarm control panel to be incorporated into this uber-box(the UD series Fire-Lite panels can directly interface via USB to a computer, so since it'll basically be part of the computer, the panel's software will ALWAYS be up-to-date UD means Upload/Download, just FYI).

and, if i get called out in the ludicrous claim thread, i'm serious about this. i really want to build my own PC(seeing as my Toshiba Satellite S4747 is down for major maintenance, this'll keep me busy, seeing as i have nothing better to do with my free time.), and it'll probably be the first real thing i build besides my fire alarm system(which i had help on. this thread counts as help, but only a little... i also might need to know where to connect everything, so the end result is a PC/Desktop, not a nuclear warhead.)

If you're building this god box a piece at a time, then are you not worried that parts will become obsolete way before you finish the computer?

I suppose you could shoehorn a router's innards into the case, but then you will need a way to keep the thing cool.

I think you mean you want a 1TB hard drive and 8 GB of RAM. If for the latter you mean 80 GB of RAM, then you're looking at server class hardware. That gets spendy quickly. But why would you want to go that route?

If this is your first custom built PC, then I suggest you make your criteria reasonable -- what is this computer meant to do for you? Will it fit your budget? Also, get a friend to walk you through it. A simple error can cost you hundreds of dollars.

I hope your fire alarms work better than the alarm bells in your head, cos they should be going off right now.

I've built all my own computers but the first one I had help on. If you're not sure what you're doing (and by saying 80GB RAM I'm pretty sure you have no clue), doing it on your own will end up badly.

What exactly is the function of this computer that is going to require masses of RAM?

1TB HDD.... Sure thats resonable..... but 80gig ram?! No way in hell.

Good questions so far. Uber-box means what to you? What do you need/want it to do? The ultimate gaming machine is not necessarily the ultimate CAD, rendering, encoding machine. What is your experience level? This can have an effect on what parts someone might suggest. Extreme hardware setup incorrectly will yield poor performance and results. If you are looking into the ultimate PC where money is no object, I would look at a custom build where someone knows what they are doing and can really do it right for you. Plan to budget $8000 USD for the extreme extreme, the PC to end all PC's build.....labor's expensive.

To build it right, you really need to pick all the components that will work best with each other. Piece mealing it is not always the best in achieving perfect hardware harmony.

Surely if you can rewire the electrics on a Lexus, you can build a PC?

My mistake.

Can you even get 80GB of RAM? I'd assume you would use 5 banks of 16GB, but wouldn't that be something like $10,000?

I'm not sure if there's a motherboard out there that supports that much.

sorry, i did mean 8GB. i hit the 0 on accident.

Can we ban this guy?!

you want me to leave? buy me a 1993 Volvo 240, and i'll leave.

sorry for double posting, but the car was an Acura. i damn near killed myself trying to jumpstart a friend's Lexus ES. i wasn't hospitalized, but there was a huge spark from the battery that jumped across my arm.

An electrician arcing a car battery. Sounds like someone need to go back to school.

And would it kill you to capitalize I's? It makes people think you don't think much of yourself. I know your shift key works 'cause you managed it with the Lexus ES...

Wait, wait... Let me get this straight.

You want to buy computer parts when you can't afford a $20 AC to USB adapter, your mom can't fill her car with the proper octane gas, and your constantly claim to be broke?

And your answer is to do it piece by piece, but you complain about your ADD?

Not to mention you said a bunch of nonsensical numbers, talked about putting the router in your computer, and so on. Plus you almost killed yourself jump starting a Camry.

This will end well, I can tell. Start with something basic, get all the parts at once since a few months means a huge price drop, and so on.

Sorry, but this is becoming a pointless thread, regardless of how entertaining it is.

Simplex 4100U,
You came here asking for help, we required additional information so we could help you further. Instead of providing that information, you choose to ignore what your original post was for in the first place. There are people here who are genuinely willing to help, but you are just wasting their time, and you are wasting mine. This thread is a waste of bandwidth and is getting closed.

I would also suggest you work on your punctuation as best as you can. A best effort is all we ask. For starters, I would suggest that you begin each sentence with a capital letter. Amazingly enough, everyone in this thread has started their sentences with capital letters except you. Even with multiple examples to learn from, you ignore the examples of your peers. 👍
