G25 or G27 for Gran Turismo 6?

Hi, new to the forum and new to sim racing. I have been reading around this website (and various others) about the different wheel + pedal + shifter options, and am still having trouble picking one...so I was wondering if you guys would care to lend some opinions. I only have PS3 and only intend to play Gran Turismo 6. I don't anticipate that I will get pulled into the sim world, but instead will occasionally play 1-5 hours per week, fairly consistently. I have no experience with wheels, so I am not necessarily looking for "THE best," but instead the "best for me." I know that doesn't necessarily help much though... In the end, I want something that will be fairly realistic and fun. I am more concerned with value than cost, i.e. I will spend more if it will yield more.

First, though - is it possible to use a TH8RS with a Fanatec wheel in GT6? The only threads I found about this dealt with GT5...was wondering if GT6 had an "update" that allows it...

My options are as follows:

1). G27 with Wheel Stand Pro for $285. Used, but in very good condition.

2). G25 for $90. I believe this is a steal, as it is in very good used condition complete with original box and packaging. If I went this route, I would also have to buy a Wheel Stand Pro for ~$150, and would consider buying a load cell for $110.

3). Fanatec CSR wheel with ClubSport v1 pedals and Fanatec shifter set and racing seat (full rig) for $400. This was found after I created the thread and I think this is what I am going to go with. Also has handbrake mod done.

I will choose number 2 because you are more of a casual driver. It will be a very good solution.
Thanks! This is what I was leaning towards because of cost, and from what I can tell $90 is a pretty good price for the G25 even though it is an older model. I have already inquired about a load cell from apelectrix.

Still, do you happen to know about the TH8RS compatibility with GT6?

All other opinions and comments are still welcome! I want to make sure I have as much info as possible before making my decision...

I also discovered that the load cell can be had for cheaper, around $80-$90, so I am heavily considering that along with either option.

When all is said and done, I am looking at a $56 difference to go with the G27 over the G25. It doesn't seem like a lot, but several have said that the G25's "upgrades" are extremely small and not really worth any extra money, especially since you give up the sequential shifter.

$90 for a used G25 that your only gonna use for a few hours a week is a great deal. I would of suggested to just grab a DFGT other wise. Just make sure it all works before you buy it.

Thanks for your input. I was looking at the DFGT but I like the pedals of the Gx models as they come with a clutch and seem more sturdy. I also like the fact that the shifter can be moved and placed wherever I want it.

Any particular "tests" you recommend I do to ensure everything works properly? Or just plug it in and start driving in a race?

That's what I would do. Cant think of any better test than that.

The THR8S shifter will work in GT6 only if you are using a Thrustmaster T500RS wheel and pedal set. By the way, I have used several Fanatec wheels, as well as a Logitech DFGT and a Thrustmaster T500RS for GT5 and/or GT6 and IMO, the T500 is easily the best option. It seems optimized for use with GT6. The FFB with the T500 in GT6 is better than any other wheel I have tried.

Thanks, but I am not interested in that model...only the ones I listed in the original post, and I have since limited it to the G25 and G27. I have no doubt the Thrustmaster is the "best" as I have read that in numerous places, but it is far beyond what I wish to spend.

Sorry for all the edits but I just found a complete Fanatec rig (listed in OP as #3) for $400. I think this is by far the best "deal."

My only concern is that of needing software to use it with my PS3...I believe that software is only necessary for PC, correct? The PS3 should just be plug-and-play?

I figured...just need to find a place to put it! In all honesty, I may play with it for awhile, then sell the seat for a Wheel Stand Pro for efficiency.

Still open to other suggestions and opinions BTW! I have until Friday to decide!

At that price the wheel and pedals are nigh on free, considering.....

Can't see you wanting to downgrade to a Wheel Stand Pro once you get going on that rig though.

And yes, PS3 will be plug and play.
Yeah I know the seat is worth that price alone...I didn't originally plan on spending this much, but I figure that the deal is too good to pass up.

I am sure I will LOVE the seat rig, but I will end up selling it because of practicality. Again - I will use it for awhile until that new excitement starts to wear down, and then sell it for a stand. The room it's going into is a small movie room/home theater with projector, etc. that also serves as a guest bedroom (has fold-out chaise sofa). It's only 12.5' x 11.5' so having the seat sitting in the middle of it isn't really a long-term option.

Edit: FWIW another reason the seat rig is not practical for me is because of my projector setup - it sits far too high to comfortably view the screen from an aftermarket seat. If I go with a stand and sit on my couch then the screen is in direct line-of-sight which makes for a much better experience.

FYI I did end up getting my rig today. Everything is in great condition and works well (I demo'd it at the seller's place before making the purchase). I am out of town for 1 week but will throw a pic up in the rig pictures then once I get home!

Thanks again to everyone who lent advice and their opinions...it is much appreciated.

I don't give a single 🤬. I have one and that's what matters. :dopey:

Although, I would definitely put on a troll face if I just happened to be the one who bought the last one in stock. :p

So as promised, here are some pics of what I bought:

P.S. - the seat is for sale, so if anyone is in the South FL area and interested in buying it send me a message!
