Hey just though i introduce myself before i ask any question. Name's Mikey or you can just call me mike or michael w/e works is fine. I have played and own ever GT game thats been out. Just recently found out you can actually drift/slide your cars in these games. Never knew that learn someone new everyday. Well enough of the intros on to the questions. I'm having a quite a bit of problem trying to drift w/the SA controller and hope that you guys could help give me a few helpful hints to help me become a better drifter. I have adjusted the controller so that the gas is R2 for better throttle control and steering has been move to the Left analog i also you the d-pad sometimes. The car im using atm is a 350z as i been reading on here it seems to be the car of choose for most beginners like myself. Now i have the car stock on n2 tires all around, set to pro, and steering angle to maximum. As of right now im just practicing on my throttle control and angles of turns. the manji drift i think thats what its refer to. I read on one of the other thread to do this type of drift first to get a feel for the control. I'm having problem w/this also i can get it most of the time but not all of the time. My questions are how far is to far when i turn the steering?? Do i use the ebrake to start a drift or do i use the feint which i have been but its still difficult or do i use the regular brake to start it? Do i just want a slight angle or do i want closer to a 90 when i do a drift? And How much throttle do i apply or better yet what speed should i stay in when practicing my drifts? I trying drifting into coners but i always lose control. Do i slow down to a certain speed the turn? I know all of this would be better w/a video of what im do to see what im doing wrong but i don't one atm. Sorry for all the question i just hope someone can help me.

-Thanks

Those things all vary from car to car and to the situation. A good thing to do (imo) is pick a track you want to learn and watch some replays from the drift rankings board for that track(you can save replays of the top 10 drivers) both in cockpit and out. Then you can see & get a feel for it. Then it's practice, practice and more practice.

Yeah this is going to take a while and a lot of practice. I been just trying to learn how far i should turn and how much throttle i need. I have been practicing on Daytona for the past few days just trying the manji drift i have gotten a lot better then when i started. I have chosen the High Speed Ring to start actually applying my drift skills which i have little of. I choose it cause of the wide track. I have a video of my first attempt but its not too pretty lol but i haven't found a way to transfer the data from the ps3 to the computer so if anyone can chime in on that it would be of great help.

Other then that can someone give me some tips on how to recover as a drift. I can get into a drift pretty easy now but when i try to recover and make the car drive straight it seems to want to keep turning even when i try to steer the car straight.

-Thanks

I was gonna reply to this yesterday, but was too tired, so I shall now.

1) i find drifting in GT VERY hard with the SA/DS3 and I've been Forza drifting for months now, (few vids, I'm soullessvessel http://youtube.com/watch?v=5NIv7P0w8FI http://youtube.com/watch?v=LqIokdtB1n0) this game using the SA/DS3 kicks you to the curb I'm thinking of ditching it and getting a wheel very soon to be honest.

2) The controller settings you have are good.

3)Tires are car seem good, Though I prefer the BMW 135 concept.

4)DON'T FAINT faint drifts are an advanced technique (and odds are your doing it incorrectly as I find most people have a misconception of what a faint drift is though your wording of the statement makes me think your doing it correctly but still don't use it yet)

5) At a beginner level the hand break is is your best friend.

6) There are multiple techniques you can use when entering a drigt but at your level the hand break I find is most predictable.

7) Angle all depends on tuning and style and these must be altered when Tandem drifting ( Drifting side by side with another car but that shouldn't be a concern with beginners) You want a balance between high and low angle.

High angle=High friction=low speed

Low angle=Low friction=high speed

and angle you go for ultimately is up to you BUT higher angles are harder to maintain

8)Entry speed you want pretty much the same as a normal grip speed when you start getting skilled, but you may wanna coast up to corners at a low skill level.

9)Throttle control is VERY hard to teach in text or even speech, best way is to either A) get somebody skilled and watch them, and ask them to explain when they get off throttle and why, or B) pay attention to what happens when you get on the throttle and the end result of of what happens when you get on the gas.

Thanks for all the quick reply and vids. At this point i have tried the e-brake method but i seem to lose control more often then when i do the feint drift for some odd reason. I'm not too good w/e-braking and drifting quite yet i haven't gotten use to how much i have to apply and when to apply the e-brake still working on it. Its easier to get into a drift w/it but it seem alot harder for me to control it after i preform a drift w/e-brake. But I'll keep practicing on it though. And i don't have anyone around to actually explain it to me so thats kind of out of the question :grumpy: . I been watching alot of videos but thats just watching them though its easier for me when i watch and someone actually explains to me how its being perform and i have been watching someone the drift bibles floating around the internet though seem to give pretty good guides but too bad I'm using a SA instead of a wheel :-(. Its all good though same concept in a way. Just have to use what i have until i can get a G25 or something the like. Thanks again for the help tips i'll keep practicing and see what i can come up with. :)

And is there anyone who can explain how i can get the replays off my ps3 onto the computer? Or do i have to re-cord the actually game from a cam?

Ment to post this also its a good learning tool http://youtube.com/watch?v=OO1uXMPc0yo&feature=PlayList&p=5409176C4A338D34&index=0
also it sounds like your on the hand break to much, but I'm not sure, you basicly need to get on it a fraction of a second.

To get vids you can record with a cam or look into getting a capture card for your computer, I'm not gonna get into explaining capture cards though so you'll have to look that up.

That's the one i been watching for the past few days :-). Good video some of the detail could be explain better or maybe i just need to listen closer but none the less its a great find. Thanks for the link though. And yeah i think I'm going to just get my cam and record it as i don't feel the need to spend more money as I'm not a good drifter yet so quality of the vids will be fine on cam, maybe when i get better at drifting i'll get that so the vids are better. Thnks again.

no problem if your looking for pointers with the vid best to record you accually playing rather then a replay so people can see your button inputs (accel steering break handbreak ect.)

Just let off the throttle and your angle will decrease. I use a wheel so cant help much with that. Something else to try is in your cars settings. Try setting brake balance to like 1 fr/7rear. This will give you better control then an ebrake pull with similar effect as far as getting your rear out. This is more for tight corners.
