I'd disagree on this point. I mean, there's a TV show with the same name...

(that said, in the UK we have a TV programme called "World Famous For Dicking Around" - which covers pretty much the same subject matter, oddly)

If anyone were to be offended by the name, it would only be a North American, and then only a few of them. Jackass means precisely squat to us in Blighty.

That reminds me, we have this new show here in the US called Banzai!. Most of the people on this show seem to come from the UK. They usually have two people competing against each other doing something stupid or silly. Like, a one legged man kicking soccer (football) goals against a goalie with one arm, or which person can drink very hot tea the fastest. Your job is to guess which one wins.

Hehe... Banzai is brilliant. Wheelchair Chicken is funny. But it's a different show.

"World Famous For Dicking Around" is a bunch of Brits who do stupid stunts like they do on Jackass, because they too want to be "World Famous For Dicking Around"...

The downhill skiing they did with 200 feet of blue polythene on a hillside was quite funny...

Please could someone explain why "jackass" is offensive?
According to the dictionary a jackass is either a male donkey or a foolish person. Do you have another meaning in America that we Brits are unaware of?

THe term Jackass becomes offensive when the meaning is intended as an insult. Unless you're reffering to the foolish person (And why anyone would want to call themselves a jacklass is beyond me..Hint, hint) or the Donkey, it is and insult.

Of course, maybe I am more easily offended than other people.

"Jackass" (bunch of mad Americans trying to hurt themselves)
