For a class I'm taking this semester, I have to find a current issue in the business environment, examine it, and based on my findings, draw a conclusion. I'd like to do something involving the automotive industry, but I'm open to anything really. The problem is, I can't think of a topic to do the project on. This is why I'm turning to you, fellow GTPers, for some suggestions.

The issue needs to be a current one, and one that isn't likely to be resolved within the next year. Something dealing with questionable ethics and business practices. And something that's particularly scandalous and will make you say "oh wow"

Thanks so much for any suggestions you may be able to offer.

How about "Less for more"? The issue being the price for mini microcars is going up in price to rival mid sized sedans/saloons.

How about industry tariffs and protectionisms. Governments pump large cash into manufacturers of cars and charge a tax on car makers from other countries.

I think there are a variety of issues you can look at. There are unions and the UAW. You can look at the business plans that focus on short term gains versus long term stability (More specifically, quality related issues in Detroit, although this has mostly passed). Maybe even look at what makes a product American. Is a Ford designed in Detroit and built in Mexico more American than a Toyota designed and built in the USA?

Solyndra

Millions in federal sweetheart loans, promise of job explosion, meetings with Obama, cover ups, bankruptcy (fraud?), and it all happened to a company with close ties to the White House even though it was thought to be doomed company years ago by several highly respected auditing firms such as PricewaterhouseCoopers.

This is perfect and is unraveling before our eyes...probably won't be swept under the rug anytime quickly b/c the DOE just made a similar, but larger, sweetheart deal with another big-time 'green-energy' soon-to-be-bankrupt company that is also a big time Obama campaign 'bundler'.

Interesting stuff.

I just did a whole bunch of reading on the Solyndra scandal and you're right, this is absolutely perfect for this project. Thank you so much for the tip!

Damn. No comment aside from I didn't vote for him and will not this time either! Very interesting indeed.
