I'm trying to get myself a wheel, but my budget is a bit shy of the GT with only 100 bones to spend.

I've found 2 options, and was wondering what others would do if they were in my shoes.

My first option is the generic Gamestop wheel & pedal combo, I'm sure a few of you have seen it:

I'm kinda curious about this thing personally, so I was hoping someone on here might own it themselves. I've done a bunch of digging on the web and haven't really come up with and info on it, except that the manufacturer mostly makes wii-mote accessories and little else. The reviews on the website say that it should work for gt5 assuming they are honest & not self advertising spam. It doesn't have force feedback but I think I'll manage w/o it.

My second option is a used old school plain Logitech Driving Force from someone on Craigslist (possibly a DF Pro if another person replies to my email but I doubt it). They're asking $60 for it so I figure haggle them to $50 & bring my ps3 with me to verify that it works before buying it.

So in short form:

1) Does anyone have any experience with the Gamestop ps3 wheel by PDP that they can share?

And

2) Which option would you spring for? Give the off brand wheel a shot, or get the officially supported used Driving Force that likely has a fair amount of wear & tear on it already?

The DF Pro i use ( will be upgrading soon to the G25 or G27 ) I will say it is fine for most easy races but it is only 9 inches in diameter and i found it a pain on the Vettel Challenge it seems so small to have a comfortable turning movement at speed. The pedals have no resistance to speak of and it is hard to judge the pressure of your feet on them to any accurate measure.. In my opinion you would be wiser saving for the DFGT

DFGT and DFP have the same pedal set unfortunately. Using the bungie cord mod on the brake pedal helps though. Personally i would save for the DFGT.

I picked up the old style Logitech GT Force wheel a few years ago for only 30 bucks on Ebay - it's been a real bargain that works perfectly :)

Thank you all for your comments. I just got lucky I guess and went up to the local Pawn Shop found a GT Pro for $40. Tested it out & everything while I was there. Your right about the wheel being a pretty small diameter; but I'm sure this will suffice for a while & maybe down the line I can pick up the GT if I have money to spend.

Just curious though, how exactly do I hook up a bungie cord to the brake pedal?

DFGT Is a good cheap option with some good reviews
I purchased a used G25 (well the Mrs did for Christmas)
I wonder how I have got though the GT collection without one.
Personaly I would get a force feed back version.

Get a 18" one, hook one end at the corner, and the other end at abou a 10 degree angle off from the pedal, but it might cause the sticky brake pedal.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=144952 ... it helps alittle to give a more lifelike feelingto them , you can place a squash ball behind the pedals also to make them feel lifelike. When you start up GT5 next before entering GT life go to the options and find the steering wheel (1st one) then set the FFB and style (simulation, ametuer, pro settings to your choosing). Then if you wish to choose button controls go to the GTP wheel and assign them to your taste.

Just for your information, there is also the option to mod the pedal with a squash ball underneath it, and it might be easier - and better looking instead of strapping bungie cords to it.

I have no links for you, but I bet Google does. :)

Try subbing these guys on youtube.
they have all sorts of wheel reviews, etc.

skip to 28:00 for the different wheels that they use w/ the game. There's quite a few.
Fanatec seems like a good one to get imo.

Great find! I have the DFGT, but my friend has the driving force pro mounted on a racing seat. I actually like his a lot. Much smoother than the "ratchety" DFGT. Nothing against my DFGT, its my first wheel and I like it, just not as smooth as some of the other wheels.

I know a few on this forum that are very fast with driving force pro. Enjoy your new experiences with your wheel! Also, I second the people above who suggested the 18" bungie cord. Some use it on both pedals, I only use it on my brake pedal.
