The best advice I can give towards exercising is to find a sport you enjoy doing. I know countless people who go to the gym and never stick to loosing weight because they get bored, that's when exercise becomes a chore. I've been enjoying cycling for around 4 years now and I never consider it a chore, when you enjoy the sport so much exercise becomes a by-product of having fun.

(1) Awesome Descendants avatar, (2) I agree. I've been working out for about 3 years and hated it at first until I found a place I liked. I was the opposite of most people in this thread when I first started (I wanted to gain as oppose to lose) but both of my work out buddies, who wanted to lose weight, stopped going with me after 2 weeks because they hated going to the trails and gyms that we were visiting. Both of them finally confessed that they felt out of place there, being two of the few "overweight" guys in the place. There are now 3 gyms out here that have certain hours for specifically training overweight people how to lose weight and are open to everyone else for the rest of the time. If you don't like going into a gym because you feel out of place than maybe see if there is something like this in your town/city. If not, there are 24-hour fitness gyms popping up everywhere. I find that the place is almost always empty if I go anytime between 1am-5:30am. That's where I started out.

By the way, I don't have a scale at home but I do have a Wii and the Wii Fit "game" (I don't really consider this a game) and was wondering if y'all knew if the Wii Board was accurate at all concerning weight. I will probably go ahead and buy a scale just because but I was wondering if I could get an accurate weight on this thing.

If you don't have a scale and the Wii one doesn't work (even if it isn't totally accurate it may show you losing) don't stress too much. Honestly the biggest way to see if you are losing is the way your clothes fit. Use a pair of jeans and a shirt that are a bit snug and use them as a guide just try them on every few weeks and hopefully they will be getting looser.

Interesting Fact: Dance Dance Revolution can help you lose weight.

I know from my own experience that working out, exercise is not the most important thing. Diet is!

If you still eat too much during the day and you exerciese, you won't loose fat tissue. Let's say that you get a daily 2900 calories a day but you burn only 2500 a day, you still won't loose fat. If it's the other way around, you will loose fat.
Problem is, that you also need to work out because you will loose muscular tissue and that's not what you want. Gaining muscular tissue is also important to loose fat. I believe that you're metabolic rate will increase as you gain muscular tissue.
The family fat surgeons show shows that food is the most important factor that make people gain or loose weight (fat tissue, not muscular tissue).

Also, don't skip a meal!

I gained 32 lbs very rapidly thanks to medication. I now have found a way, after experimenting with myself :D, a succesfull way to loose fat and gain muscular tissue. I have lost about 12 lbs of fat and gain about 1% muscular tissue. I'm still taking the meds.

Best way to do it. Everyone is different. There is no set-rule.

Other than don't hurt/starve yourself, obviously. :)

Well got my weight and other information needed to start this out.

Weight: 297lbs
Height: 5' 9" (actually 2 inches taller than I thought I was)
Neck: 19 1/2 inches
Chest: 55 1/2 inches
Waist: 48 inches
Leg: 25 inches
Arm: 17 inches

I know most of you don't want to know all of this but I am using this as a notebook for myself so that I can keep track of it all.

Anyway, I am starting my diet and exercise tomorrow (still trying to figure out a good exercise workout but I will probably do the free step on Wii Fit for 30 minutes.

Well, you can have multiple meals..it just has to be in small portions. Though everyone is different.

That's the result of my experiment. I found the exact amount of food I need to eat daily (max.) in order to loose fat and gain muscular tissue (need to work out ofcourse for the latter). I eat enough and healthy enough for my body to be able to gain muscular tissue and still loose fat.

But that will only work for a period of time til your body learns to function on what calories you consume. Let's say your body is used to 2000 calories a day, that means it learned to function with the 2000 calories you put in. Then all of a sudden you go down to 1500 calories and after a while your body will again adjust to burn that amount during its' daily cycle. This will happen again and again, that's why you're supposed to have a day or two in the week where you ingest more than usual, so that your body doesn't fall into that comfort spot and stay there, plateau. That's also where exercise comes in. Whatever calories you burn from that, are subtracted from the calories your body usually burns. If you eat 1500 calories in a day, you don't need to ride a bike for 4 hours to burn that 1500 calories and lose weight.

Yes, refeeding is important if you want to diet for longer periods and do not want to yo-yo.

And most studies that I've read have said eating the same amount of calories you usually due, but spread out into smaller portions consumed more often will keep the metabolism running a bit faster. Which is a good thing for burning calories.

In the past year I've went from 187lbs at my highest to 159lbs right now. But in the past 6 months I've went from about 178 to where I am now, and I'm still losing weight. I live in Colorado and walk about a half mile uphill (mountains?) to classes every day, and all I have done is to keep some sort of steady exercise going. Really, I'm not hardcore by any means, but I run 2-4 mile runs at least a couple of times a week, and at least a couple of times a week I will do about 50 pushups 50-75 situps, and 50 oblique crunches on each side. During the day I'll munch on carrots and celery because I actually like it, and I just have a reasonable diet, nothing too extreme. But the big difference for me has been proportioning my food. I used to sit down and devour an entire pint of Ben and Jerry's etc., now things like that will last me a week. I still basically eat what I want, but I do it in smaller amounts, and sometimes I'll pass on things because my weight and fitness does matter to me. It's working for me and it's just a matter of time and consistency.

I donno if anyone recommended P90X. But you should try it.

That's not that difficult. :D
Eating less than normal 7 days a week is too much strain on the psyche. So,there are a few days a week when the will power is a little less stronger, resulting in eating more. It has nothing to do with what you said but all with the fact that it's psychological not healthy (for me personal) to keep doing this diet 7 days a week, so I let go from time to time and indulge myself but not too much either. Mmmmm, ..... . :p
After reading what you said, and if it's true, I won't have any bad feelings if I indulge myself once in a while. I'll be thinking about your post when I do. 💡
