Over the past few months, i've had problem after problem with my toshiba laptop. More problems than even my 5 year old tiny desktop. So i've got to the point where there is no point in aving anything on the hard drive simply because it will just be wiped off if i end up reinstalling the system. So i think it's time to get an external hard drive. I've looked at a few, and think that the
Freecom 22704 80GB hard drive is great for me. It's cheap and the perfect size, so unless anyone else can recommend another hard drive for £100 or less, with a capacity of more than 40gb, but i'm negotiable on the size.

Any help appericiated, thanks

Jon

Hmm, that looks interesting, i've never thought of doing that. Thanks, i'll investigate a bit more

Yeah, I've got one on my own system. I got a 200 gig western digital drive a while ago for about 65 quid and the caddy was about 20. It's a nice and quick drive too, transferring from the external to my internal SATA drive at a consistent 12-13 MB/sec. Writing is a bit slower, around about 11-12 MB/sec.

You could get a 160 gig drive for 52 quid if you're looking for more space

Personally, I'd look at buying a standard internal drive and sticking it in an external caddy.

Just under 36 quid for an 80 gig drive.

A USB2.0/Firewire caddy for a little under 18 quid.

Works out at about 10 quid cheaper than the one you linked to for the same capacity drive.
Yeap. External drives are seriously overpriced. It's much cheaper to go that route. 👍
