That is so cool, I so want to do that one day, hopefully the ring will still be around when I'm older.

Insurers would like to ban in it from the insurance policies, but they can't, because the law says liability covers all public roads, and insurers can't exclude any public roads just because they feel like it.

Most UK insurers state that they exclude either the Nurburgring in name, or 'one way, derestricted toll roads' - which the 'ring is.

Crash - It's traditional that the car that lapped gets the sticker, not the driver. Purist code!

Presumably the ink is drying on the tattoo already :dopey:

very nice report, Pal!
But, please never ever support the Mall or anything else in this goofy park @ the GP Track. Unless you want to get the Nordschleife "destroyed"....

I will will explain everything, if that is neccessary ^^

Yeah, they try that here too, but over here the law is such that a liability insurance must include all public roads. And even though they want, insurers can't go against the law. ;) Some guy even sued over it when his insurer tried, and won. They tried to nail him with the clause about not participating in races/time trials/etc. but they failed, because they couldn't prove that (because legally, you aren't :p). So they had to pay for all the damage he made, including to the track, towing costs, guard rails, etc. etc.

What kind of legal/insurance cover do you get with the Corsa? Now that it's almost impossible to get insured to drive your own car on the 'Ring i'll probably end up hiring again. More £££ :ouch:
The liability was 5000 Euros, which is much better than paying for someone's Ferrari or a hundred meters of Armco. As far as I can tell, the nationality of the driver makes no difference. All they wanted from me was my U.S. drivers license.

I thought about it, but nobody over here knows what that sticker means, and those that do would probably just think I'm some douche trying to be cool :p.
Awesome write-up and you were in Delfzijl as well.. I know how your 'Ring experience was now but what did you think of Holland?? :p
The country is pretty (though flat), and the people are friendly, but why do all the shops close at 6 PM? :) Delfzijl isn't too exciting for a visitor, but a colleague showed me around Groningen one night. That looked a little more interesting :p.

That right there is my dream. Awesome stuff, I can tell you were slightly excited..

Question, hope you can answer...

What is the age requirement to rent a car to drive in the 'ring?

Yup, country is flat and below sea level... LoL... And coming from the good ole US of A it must be weird seeing everything close at 6 PM :P I had to get use to that when I came back here more than 10 years ago. The cities usually have a shopping night though. In Amsterdam it's on Thursdays and then the shops are open 'til 9 PM. In Rotterdam its on Fridays and smaller townships have also have it on Fridays if Im not mistaken.

On-topic:

I really need to do this one time though, the "ring is not far away and I have a buddy that goes there on occassion... @NLxAROSA You going to be taking the new ride there anytime soon??... LoL ;)

cant wait, its been my dream to go there for years, and will be for years to come...none of my friends understand this though

You went to the Ring and didn't even bring a GoPro Camera? Shame! They're just a hundred bucks!

Deep, dark envy. Sounds like it was a blast.

Video cameras are not allowed on the track, and steering with one hand while holding a phone-cam is not advised :).

Not even suction-cupped to the windshield? A GoPro is tiny... you can cup it to the side of a helmet, or hide it in a pocket... ah well... next time...

Still extreme envy. Been wanting to do the same, but since it'd cost about half my annual salary... notgonnahappen.com

^This. I thought about sneaking my phone out on the final lap, but there is really nowhere on the lap where it's safe or smart to drive with one hand.

Get creative?

Real shame they banned something that is so integral to the experience... While I can understand why... having seen how insurance and warranty issues have worked out for track-rats in the past (and knowing how dangerous it is to video while driving...), it's still sad that they would enforce a total ban.

I honestly find the ban a proper safety measure, people usually (unintendedly) act in an artificial way when filmed, the sense of judgement required to drive the ring at speed would undeniably be affected by a camera. Well, I know it would affect me though.
