Nephew's Xbox 360 has better graphics than mine?

Here's the sit rep:

My 360 starts giving me the 3 flashing light treatment.

My sister decides that as it's near my nephews birthday anyway, we can both use his 360 until mine is fixed/replaced.

His console is connected up, using the same plugs, leads and TV as mine.

He loads in one of my games.

I am stunned.



The only difference AFAIK is that his is a premium model, whereas mine was a core. Is this significant?

How big was the difference?
 
Unusual. Are there any settings anyone knows of through the Xbox Dashboard that could change this?
 
TV settings are the same, but I haven't checked the resolution yet. Will check them when/if I get my console back.
 
I was going to suggest the idea based on component cables, but that one has already been ruled out...
 
that happened to me a while ago, i had my 360 running through a vcr, then i put it directly to the tv, and it was like 2 different systems. it makes a serious difference

Yours is probably set to standard TV resolution, whereas your nephew's is probably at HDTV resolution - 720p/1080i. At HDTV resolutions, the graphics look much clearer and sharper.

When I bought my HDTV I never flicked the switch on the component cable (is this maybe the reason???) from TV - HD!

I played for about 3 hours and i was really dissapointed - wondered why everyone was raging on about HD as i had never seen a game being played on it - and i thought it looked really jagged and rough!

Then my mate came in and said the same thing but he then asked if i remembered to flick the switch on the component cable and i just laughed - so we flicked the switch - the 360 rebooted and wow it was great!!

That is my guess too. Make sure when you get your 360 back that its set to HD. It will be a huge difference in quality. lol Depending on your TV or Monitor, the 360 also allows you to change several screen resolutions in HD including 1024, 1280...... You can also set it to widescreen or standard.
 
And if you're really finicky, you can stretch PGR3 through your telly's settings so the cars don't look all squashed. It doesn't have an effect on other games either, from what I can tell.

Good point! That's what I was trying to think of... That's an easy thing to miss.
 
but he's using all the same cabling, so if the switch isnt flicked, it isn't on both and if it is on hdtv is is on both.
 
Maybe the hardware problem was GPU related and causing poor graphics somehow. Your nephew's may have been using an updated driver that increased the performance, if Microsoft has created a newer driver...

Doesnt say he was using his exact cables - or at least its not the way its worded - as he says its the same as his.
 
Maybe he noticed the switch was on "SD" and flipped it to "HD" himself, without telling you?

I guess you won't know until you get your replacement back.
 
You can still have the resolution set to less than HDTV (i.e. 480p) while the cable is switched to HDTV mode. Make sure it's set to 720p/1080i/1080p depending on what resolution your HDTV can handle.

System>Console Settings>Display>HDTV Settings
