How can i improve the signal of my wireless internet. My PS3 has a bad connection and most of the time i can't sign in.. This really annoys me, i want to play gt5 online. Before i never had this problem

Unless you have some crap router that isn't properly transmitting signal, or you are forcing it to go through many walls or a long distance, then there is nothing really easy you can do to improve the signal.

Your options are:

1. Buy a new internet connection with faster speeds, and an adequate router for the new network.

2. (best option) Run a wire. Don't use the wifi - it's crap.

Make sure you're running on wireless channels 1, 6 or 11(they don't overlap frequencies) and that you choose a channel that has few other wireless APs running on it. I have no scientific evidence for this, but I always find channel 11 works best. Using 1 currently because nobody else router nearby is on it.

Someone on channels 2-5 and 7-10 is just pissing all over everyones frequencies.

Try measuring your connection speed, ping, jitter and package loss. You need to have data of your internet connection status to improve it. There are a lot of sites to do this. I usually use speedtest.net and pingtest.net. You can also check a traceroute command to see where the signal is being "stuck".

Use cable instead of wireless. Typically it will improve your connection stability. If you can't then change to a frequency that nobody is using and put your router closer to your PS3.

You can also set your router to give priority to your PS3 traffic.

Your cables and router should be adequate. it's probable to have some lag if you are downloading something or another machine is using your band width (tv's for example in case of fiber glass or another computer).

You can also check your ISP contract and sector rules and laws and after gather some data see if you have the right to an indemnization.

Improving your internet connection is another solution.

You can at any time call for your support line and ask why you can't race gt5 online.

Out of interest shouldn this be in another forum rather than the GT5 forum seeing as it is a PC question. however, cable it. Dont use wireless unless you 100% have to.

I am trying the chanels right now . 1 is the best so far

A fibre--optic internet is the best course of action.

Ok, "the fibre optic internet" is simply a way of transfering data from the ISP to the boxes in the road. The only company that supplies "fibre optic" in the UK is virgin media and for the record it isnt even fibreoptic at ANY point from the point outside your property to the point the pictures pop up on your screen. all fibre optic means to you is the ability to get a faster analogue line into your house. The only reason others cant compete in the UK is British Telecom owns the cable infrastructure that all other internet connections come through which is why ever other kind comes from your phone point.

This.

Getting a true fiber connection at your home, combined with the fiber switching that would be required, is FAR more expensive than would ever make sense for gaming.

Wrong. You have to choose a free channel, one which isn't used from your neighbours. You should be able to check the channels in your router setup menu.

f.e.: channel 3, 7 & 11 is used, then try channel 1, 5, 9 or 13.

Check the speed & the stability of the connection with a online speed test. f.e.: http://speed.io/index_en.html

But if you are looking for a good connection for online gaming, then there is no way around a lan cable. :)👍

Two things:

1. Lock your WiFi signal to keep people off (duh).
2. A direct ethernet cable into the back of the PS3 from the modem is always preferable to a wireless-only connection.

If those don't make a difference, you have more than just signal problems and might want to consider an ISP upgrade.

Wow. I tought here in Portugal we were far being UK. But is seems not. We already have a lot of companies offering optic fibre (although is not avaliable everywhere) including the public company....

...I also have fiber inside my house. The tecnicians mounted it inside the house. It requires a little machine to transform the signal into a RJ45 cable that connects to the router. (i can take photos tomorrow)

The market offers a maximum speed of 300Mbps.

Please move the thread to the appropriate place.
