Network ????

hmmm... KY added a network feature ? this would be a very nice surprise indeed ! i looked at the pictures, and it looks like it allows any network connection to be established ! maybe this means PD will set up it's own network, similar to xLink, which better understands the Data transfer needs which will eliminate the lag !!! i'm very excited :D come on GT4 GET TO MY HOUSE ALREADY !!!!! later !!
 
If I read right from the other thread, "Network" is just "Network OPTIONS". Not some actual mode.

edit: incase that's still confusing, Network Options for LAN mode.
 
hmm. are you sure because it looks like they were connecting to xlink kai via the network options menu, and not the LAN options menu... and gt4 is recognizing kia as a valid connection.
 
?? K now I'm confused....

Network IS LAN, or are you talking about something entirely different? I could be wrong, but isn't XLink run through LAN mode? I'm pretty sure there's only one option of multiplayer anything and that's LAN.
 
well. go look at the translation page. under the options section click all the pics with the word Network in it, as well as teh main options screen. Network seems to have a seperate options menu than LAN... i don't know what this means but it leads me to believe there are 2 different things you can connect your ps2 to. i'm not sure if i am understanding the pictures correctly. when i get gt4 i will figure it out. later-
 
it could be a futer way for pd to open and bring gt4 online. so mabe that will be the online mode. because i rember him say " gt4 will not be on line but later on it will be " that is how there will do it.

I know there's a seperate option, I've seen the pics. That's where I'm getting my info from... my post above was directed at how GT4 would be played normally and that's through LAN, which XLink also uses. As for the two options in the menu I'm not sure what that's about but I heard it was just more options for LAN. Even if there WAS a second way to connect to the net for online, you still wouldn't be able to access it because there's no freakin' button to start it :)
 
hmm okay. i am just wondering why there is a Network Option, that is separate from the LAN option ? interesting that they wouldn't just put a page two inside the LAN options, instead of having a separate one just for Network. unless the network option is just there to dial in the settings for your ntwrk adapter. and lan option has nothing to do wtih connection, and only to do with gameplay. i wish i had gt4 i wouldnt need to ask such questions :D ...soon !
 
Like someone said above, KY mentioned GT4 will be online in the future. Now theres plenty of us who want to go online with GT4, and purchasing a new game coz it has online isnt fair to us, even if the cost was cut down. Maybe it has been an addition to the game already, but not usable till the servers are completely worked out. This is possible i would think, and it is much better for fans of online play. And this could possibly be KY's suprise. We'll have to wait and see, he might be waiting for the game to be released ALL OVER before unleashing network.

I personally still believe that the online functions are already built into this version of GT4. We're just waiting for them to get the infrastructure setup.
 
LAN = Player info and gameplay info (number of players etc)

NETWORK = What your PS2 is using etc, i.e. network adapter, with autoconnect mode, etc etc.

Look in the Translations thread at the top of the page for more details. It's there.

I, like most you, would luv to see Online activated later on but I don't think it'll happen. I'm sure some, if not all, of the code is still in there but there's no GUI for it.

even if the code was there it would be useless to us, because PD won't setup any servers for it. (the game of course is peer to peer, but you need a server to find the other players)

I know, that's what I meant. I was just covering the point for the guys that thought some Network option would become available later on.

I mean this in all seriousness:
How do you know? How would you actually go into a "mode" that lets you go online?

personally, I still think GT4 is for the single player experience and MAYBE they'll bring out some kinda multiplayer game down the road.
 
read it on ign the day that pd said the online moda way ging to takne off you will see what i mean about gt4 being online in 2005??
 
Well i hope PD gets online mode in. I don't see any logic in releasing a separate disk, it would not be ideal at all. they would need to charge 50 dollars for that too ! unless it is only available to people who own GT4 and you have to bring your barcode or something to buy the online disk. The only other idea i could think of is if the online mode would only be available in a racing pack with a ps2 as well. some kind of quantity deal. I think they only released it to the Japanese/Asian market because of so many delays, and may have actually been issued sort of an unfinished GT4. I would like to think so anyway. I would love to think that when GT4 is released to the US, UK, and everywhere else that it may be a more complete version, with an included online mode :D that would be so Rockin' !!!! :D my dreams would come tru :) but until then... xlink it is. and thank you tha_con (i think it was) for clearing up the options menu question !! later.
 
PD says it will release an online GT game this year, but not too close to the original release. The online mode was completed for GT4, it's just that Sony doesn't have the network to run it.
