Anyone tried Netzero? I am using aol right now.(Go ahead and laugh) Around here we don't have anything higher speed than 56k so I'm stuck with aol only because I can regulate my sons viewing and his time online. I just downloaded netzero today to give it a test drive. I have gone from crawling on this forum to jogging. I must admit I am suprised that I actually have picked up speed. Below is a performance summary. It's only $14.95 per month which is $6.00 cheaper than AOL. The thing I give up is some of the control. I can get some of that back by setting up different profiles on windows though.

Anyone else tried netzero? What do you think of it? Is it worth it?

Mine is 53.3333333

:D :D

j/k

Yeah, I guess you can try it. My cousin had it. It was crap, the free version, it came with a program like AOL. I hated it.

I got that free version a while back too. I hated it. This one is different it seems. I hope so, I'm tired of running so slow. I can't wait till cable or DSL gets here.

I don't see how that "HiSpeed" stuff works. I've seen the commercials and I'm not convinced. I say it's bullshyte.

Does it really seem four times faster?

As far as keeping your son in line, this method is time consuming but it has worked for us.
I have the internet password protected.
If they try to open a site that has not been accessed and approved by me, it will not open until they call me and I come and type in the password.
Then you can choose the option of opening the site forever, or for that one time access.
Yes, it is a pain. But, I have to be actively involved, so it keeps everybody honest.

Quarter page banner? I don't have any banners on mine.
Is yours a recent version?

Anyway here is the last reading I took off mine on this forum.

I had NetZero back in the day. Way, way back in the day. And it had a huge banner.

so you run at about 230-240 kbps? at night? when i used dial up the best i could get was 51 kbps during the day time, at night it went down to 20 a lot of the time. I use cable now:D .

His connection never reaches 230 Kbps, it's still at dial-up speeds. It only seems faster due to page caching through the browser, etc. Basically, NetZero is ripping people off.

I realize it can't possibly reach those speeds because the best a line can do at the moment with my modem is 56k. If it does it all through page caching then why do the pages I have gone to the first time load up faster? Is it due to other people visiting that page before me and it holds it in the netzero server?

Not really, because they aren't paying any more than regular AOL for their "high-speed" NetZero.

And i mean, the people in the commercial said NetZero was on page 11 while regular dial-up was on page 3! How can you possibly comprehend that not being the absolute and utter truth!?

Big words!
