I was about to purchase an All In Wonder 9700 and then I seen the AIW 9600XT. The numbers on the 9600 beat the 97 hands down.

My question is, why is the 9700 more expensive when the 9600 is clearly a faster card?

9700 -

Chipset/Core Speed: RADEON 9700/325MHz

The 9700 has 8 rendering pipelines and 256-bit DDR. The 9600XT has only 4 rendering pipelines and 128-bit DDR.

^What he said.

My church has got a AIW 9700 on their main machine. Dang does that thing rip up the video benchmark(2001SE).

You have to put everything on, at 1600x1200 to slow it to unplayable framerates, and it was still 16-20.

That, my friend, has absolutely nothing to do with it. Mainly because the 9700 isn't an SE.

Yes, in trims, XT is the highest ATI makes, but a 9700-non pro is faster than a 9600XT.

As far as clocks go, for example, P4 vs. Athlon. Lets use a 3.2GHz CPU. Athlon 3200+ is actually 2.2GHz, while a P4 is 3.2GHz, yet the Athlon does suprisingly well for it's actual clock.

Yes, I know. Don't start on the Athlon vs P4 thing, okay?;)

Hmm.. I did some searching and found that the AIW 9800 is only $30-40 more than the 9700. Am I missing something again?

I was reading up on the AIW 9700, and it seems there is a problem with some of the cards tripping the power-surge circuit on numerous types of PSU's during startup. Coincidentally my Enermax Noisetaker has that option... The Viper Lair did an article about it.

You'll need a DVI to VGA converter, but I believe it comes with one.

I believe the 9700 and 9800 are the same core, the the 9800 is clocked higher and has faster memory. Either way, you'll be pleased.

For those that are also in the market for a high-end Radeon card, wait. A new model dubbed the "R420" should be available shortly.

It has been said by numerous sources that the "R420 will blow every other video card out of the water". I guess we'll see.

Nvidia is also coming out with a new line of cards, sooner than ATI. Supposidly they will be better than the new ATI series.

We shall see.
