Ive seen it in white and black now too. Looks real mean in black. Theres gonna be a Type-RR which will be the ultimate with about 240hp with a couple magazines reckonin 250hp but that figures too much in my mind. Honda wouldnt bother.

Answer me this. I don't mind a Lamborghini Murcielago in that yellow or gold color. What is it about yellow on most other cars that look bad? Even I knocked the Corvette C5R and Corvette C6R fot their yellow colors, but why yellow on most other cars?

Yellow being a bright colour can expose poor lines and often other manufacturers use retina burning shades.

I quite like it.

It no doubt reminds people of SEATs because
a) It's that kinda yelow
b) It has the 'F1' nose.

I do liek it, but I think it'll look better in black and with a spoiler at the top of the rear windscreen, not in the middle of it, ricer style.

Why does "rice" or "ricer" have to be mentioned when we mention ANYTHING about the Civic? I think some people will likely want a functional, yet sporty hatchback without even thinking about modding it up to some incredulous degree. People may just want a stylish (I don't know if you'd want to say that with this edgy Civic here) hatchback that looks cool wherever they are sold and wherever they are driven. They may also want to do some legal racing without modifying the car's looks or anything. Not everyone wants a Honda (much less the Civic) just to mod it up and p*ss people off.

Having said this, I think and hope this car doesn't end up being uglier than the latest Subaru Impreza. If it can deliver in performance and such, then looks likely won't matter. Or do I have to bring up my Corvette C6 abd C6 ZO6 example about bad-looking cars that can still deliver?

'Cause this one looks like Rice straight from the factory.

Looked eerily similar to something, but I couldn't think what. Then it dawned on me...

Looks like the new Civic hatch was designed by the Royal Imperial Guard. And honestly, I don't mind it. Looks different, but I kind of like it.

Wow, they took the new Civic, and made it even uglier than the already ugly Si. I didn't think it was possible. Twenty more horsepower, eh? Maybe this one will actually be able to do 0-60 in the low 7's like the Si supposed to!

Utter crap.

I actually like the new Civics, and the new Si, but this is just 👎

I mean, maybe if it wasn't such a garish color, or if the photos were taken from a respectable distance, it'd look better...

Looks interesting. I like the face, but I'm not so sure about the rear end. Crazy color and wheels do make it bit harder to determine the overall design.

The looks are ok, maybe it takes a little time to get used to. The interior of the new Civic is awesome though, that's important aswell...

The reason u yanks don't like the new civic type R is that it's not aimed at an american market. If it were aimed at the American market, it would have a 6 litre engine putting out 100Bhp and would be shaped like a boat. The car looks mean and that's what the UK public want. If we wanted a pensioners car, we would go for something that the americans have to offer. The civic type R's are normally driven by young males in the UK and as one I think that this car looks and will be amazing.

Do you really believe everything you just typed?... I am an american (Irish-American), and personally, I am not a fan of 90% of what the american car market has to offer... I'm also a huge fan of automotive design... I can tell you I have been impressed by the performance of the newest UK Civic... Most reviewers have found the handling to be superb (for a FWD)... It's the over-the-top styling that seems a bit plastic, and in my eyes cheapens the look of the car, not unlike all of those Civics running around with Euro taillights... I can understand if you like the look of the new car, but don't act like everyone that doesn't, is just a product of the American marketplace...

;)

The new Civic(reverse your thinking Civic that is)..
Is a terrible CIVIC. It's a good car, i'm sure it is. but putting the nameplate "civic" on it just doesn't suit it in the slightest. Maybe I'm crazy, but when I see the car, I see NOTHING civic about it..Absolutely nothing..

Now this new Type R...
I see more Scion than Honda in this delapodated hatchified piece of garbagio..

Funny, because last I checked, American cars in the 6 liter range were making between 350-500 hp. Maybe you meant to type 'Armenia' or 'Angola' and simply got confused.

I really fail to see why being American or not has anything to do with this car. It's ugly. It's ugly here, it's ugly in the UK and thanks to our esteemed friend with writes in bold indigo, we know it's ugly on that swamp planet where Luke learns to use the force, too.

It's fine with us if you don't like American cars. but I wouldn't get too smug about the kind of cars you get in the UK, since on average you pay 40% more for the same thing we have access to, just with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

A new Civic EX is £17k for you. Wow. I guess if I knew the same money would buy a new Evo IX, WRX STI or a BMW 325i in the States, I would sound bitter too. Particularly if what I got was an underpowered grocery getter that would be breakfast meat on any American freeway.

I dunno... For the most part you're right, but

Still, we get totally butt-****ed for petrol as well.

Its not that the Civic is a horrible car (it isnt), the problem most Americans have is that it is a Civic. They have gained such a nasty reputation in the US thanks to all the import tuner kids running around throwing nine-foot spoilers and garbage can exhaust pipes on them.

Someone pointed it out earlier: The Civic just isnt what it used to be. The fifth and sixth generation Civics are the crem-de-la-crem when it comes to the model, and Honda has managed to ruin the car with the seventh and current gen models. Not only has the car gotten much, much larger, it has also managed to loose it's "soul" and it is pretty evident that Honda is compensating with outrageous styling.

The Si and the Type-R are good cars, but there are also so many more that are better. The VW GTI comes to mind, as well as the upcomming Caliber SRT-4, and maybe even Mazdaspeed3.

------------------------------------------------------
And whats up with the America bashing? We have a pretty big appreciation for small sport compacts and hot hatches. Cars like the GTI and the old Civic Si sell outstandingly well here in the US. Although older folks like to drive the larger, V8-powered sedans, I presume the differences are minimal across the pond. But you have to remember that the driving situations are completely different between the US and the UK. Most of our roads are flat, straight, and most citizens travel by expressway from city to city, etc. We don't have the rather silly roundabouts, twisty country roads, etc. as most of our streets have been built on a grid pattern. That means big, comfortable, high-powered cars are the vehicles of choise, and have been since the inception of the American automobile.

You have to keep in mind that America and Europe are very different places MattWilson. You may not like our Cadillacs or GMCs, and there are many Americans who wouldnt be caught dead in anything like a Peugot or FIAT. Different strokes for different folks...

But, the small car market is in a boom here in the US. Cars like the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Nissan Cube, Toyota Yaris (read Vitz), Kia Rio, and Chevrolet Aveo have all recieved great ammounts of attention, and are becomming the new trend in the American market... Of course, at the same time, the crossover SUV is all the rage, as well as the return of the classic American muscle car and muscle sedan... But it is a difference of taste, and people would rather be in their 300Cs than a Civic Type-R.

Well said YSSMAN. There's a reason that people like the civic. I think that the new civic has lost sight of the things that made it the bestseller that it always was. It's a small, no nonsense car that wants to rev happy all day and be as frugal as possible. When something works so well, it's best not to mess with success.

ONE BIG QUESTION:

The US-market Si gets the coupe bodyshell with its independent rear suspension.

The Type-R is built on the hatchback body shell, which, to increase load-space... has a torsion beam axle.

Did they re-engineer the hatch to take the independent rear for the Type-R?!?

Yup -- BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Aston-Martin, Bentley, Rolls-Royce make all kinds of big, heavy, not-so-fuel-efficient sedans/GTs. And it's not like all of them get shipped over here... :)

Put yer Little Jimmy away, son. This here's a church goin' crowd.

Well, you'd be right except a TVR wouldn't intrest Americans in the slightest. They make way too much power for their displacement, the door openings are too small for our size 58 arse to fit through and there's no place for our automatic weapons and a 60 oz Slurpie.

Maybe if they bumped up the displacement by 500 or so CID (us 'Murricans can't count in metric), dropped horsepower to about 80 and make it look like a Seacraft Classic you might have something.

Gotta go, Bubba. Time to have me 'nother huntin' axe-e-dent.

...Um, I would really like to have a TVR. They may not be built well, but you could say the same things about the Corvette and the Viper. Atleast with a TVR, youre driving something different, and something a bit more exciting. Of course, if TVR should ever decide to sell their cars in the US, they would probably be outrageously expensive, and sales may not be as stong as they had hoped for.

...Give me a T350 or a Tamora, and I'll be one happy colonist. Unless of course youre looking to give away a Segaris, then I might change my mind.

Yes, yes, I know. I couldnt help it...
