New Drifter - Looking for Opinions/help on/from my vid.. :)

Heya guys, i've been on these forums a lot recently, lurking throughout 2k2-4 & started posting a lot back when the JPN Gt4 came out, anyways, i played it through a lot, then got the UK version and started on that too, now i decided, its time to TRY & drift, my drifting in GT3 was awful, to be nice to it, but i have been trying a lot more and a lot harder in Gt4, and to be honest i feel i'm making improvements, but can never cut a long enough drift etc.. faaling short, spinning off, i know it sounds like a typical noobie drifter set of mistakes, but i have made a movie of my blunderous attempts at sidewaysness and would just appreciate any feedback, i know 99% of the drifts themselves suck ass, but i just try 7 try but get confused and lost trying to hit the corners right, so here's where i am upto so far, any opinions & help i could get for these symptoms, i'd appreciate :)

First of all, you drifts don't "suck ass," but you do need work. I'm guessing right now you're trying all the cars in the game out, trying to find a good starter car...

...Don't do that, pick a car and learn it and nothing else until you master it. Later you can move onto more cars, now you must learn the art of drift, even if your skills are limited.

Soooo, go get yourself an FR or MR car and keep practicing with it. Grab some settings from the Depot and use em.
Your biggest problems are entry speed and entry line--that's it, everything else is minimal.

Thanks, i wasn't exactly scouting out the cars much, i started with the '83 Trueno and just wasn't "that" keen on it, switching to the supra made me feel a lot more comfortable and i will be doing my "learning" in the supra. Would you recommend throwing a spoiler on it to fiddle with downforce?
 
For now, don't mess around with downforce or ballast, its better to learn how toe and camber affect the handling first. My general rule of thumb when starting with a new car is to put the toe at F:-1, R:-2, and camber at F:3.0, R:4.5, then I later tune it to how I want it to feel.
 
Ok, thanks, i was using the settings on the Depot, but all suspension was at stock, i'll give that a try in the morning and see how i go :)

OMFG that music:lol: That's really funny.

Ok, what I've seen about your drifting skills, is that you must a enter a corner a bit more agresive, and begin countersteering a bit faster too, also in the end of a corner, you must release half of the countesteer a bit earlier, then you will exit in a drift with less countersteer, and then straighten out the wheel(if your using a DFP):p

No problem with the drifting of you, it seems like you must gain some more experience with it, not a real thing to improve, if you practice more you will gain more feel for this timing, cause that's all there is to it, feel what the car is going to do next by the force feedback and by the motion and speed of your car (again if you have a DFP):p

That's all there is to it, get some feel of the car:tup::p

Edit: seeing the settings you used, it seems like the guy who made them just made up some stupid settings just to appear in the first post as a link:irked: I can't imagine why it would spin out that easily with N3 tyres. I would say put a full customizeable suspension kit on it and have the settings for the suspension a bit like this: (now making up, these are a bit standard settings I use, so haven't tested it out)

F=front B=back
Suspension
Spring rates: F= 8 B=11 this differs much, all about preference, start adjusting here if your car handles stupid for you

Ride height: F= around the 90 to 120 if that's possible, and same numbers at B.

Damper bounce/rebounce: all standard, 7 or 8

Chamber angle: F=3.0 B=2.0

Toe: F=0 B=2

Stabilizers: F=2 b=1

Others
And brake balance: F=8 B=12

Tyres: N2

Again, just made it up, see if it works:idea:
 
Not bad for a beginner. I've seen worse, and have prolly have done worse myself, lol.
Vinsion is right, best way to learn is to pick a car, and practice. Each car is different, and switching around trying to learn won't get you anywhere but into the wall. Keep tryin, and hopefully we'll see another vid from ya soon. 👍
 
I'll be trying some more tonight & try & post a vid of my progress in the next few days :) Thanks for all the support :D Gotta try & find as good a tune as the crazy frog! lol

from what i see its not bad man every one had their start. the only thing u have to learn is where to apply certian drift techniques. Like the corner befor the tunnel on Grand Vally u were using the feint tech. Right there i would just use braking tech coming in high and fast and let the cars force carry u through. BUt thats just how I do it.

ps Make ur own style man dont go try to copy others cause everyone here just about has a different style and approach. but as long as ur sideways and smokin those tires. its all good.

yea i love the feint tech, but i can only use it in certain corners. i used braking tech alot and i mainly use the ebrake to correct my angle once in the drift. I never use the ebrake to start a drift ( only on about 2 special corners)
 
LOL!!! that music is hilarious!!! and yeah you need to practice and practice to make your drift perfect! keep on the good work 👍
