okay folks, i have been racing for years but i never quite got the drifting bug...

whats the best advice you can offer and old dog (me) that wants to learn a new trick (drifting)?

at last count i had +8,000,000 creds and i bought the Mit. Lancer EvoVI T.M.E. (stripeJ) modded to ~580hp....is this a good car to start drifing in?

cheers

PS, is it better to drift while drunk or am i wasting my time drinking all this beer before i drive?

you can't learn when you're drunk. You have to be operating on reflexes. So learn sober.

DOHHH!

then play GT3

Start with an underpowered FR, that will make it a bit easier. Try starting with a Silvia, or an FC RX-7, and I like using slick tyres on the back, and super-softs on the front, but that just me. Also you have to have really good throttle control

First off sell that crappy lancer, and buy your self a RX-7 rs, Buy evrything that you can get. Buy the stage 3 turbo and then balance the hp until you get it in between 500 and 550 you should not need more than that. Also buy simulation tires

Settings:
spring rate: LOWEST
ride height: LOWEST
camber: 8.5/3.5
stabilizers:7/7

NOW GEAR RATIOS
The top three boxes make them go to the right until 60 for all three of them

Final gear: make it long but dont go all the way to the end

Go down to the gear that makes it WIDE:
Leave that gear 3 spaces to the left of the middle.

This way you will have short gears and you will be able to have all your power in your 3rd and 4th gear

TURN OFF ALL TRACTION

P.S. sorry for the sloppy info but im doing this without looking at the game but, This should maek you a beter driver if you can get used to this car

ITS NOT SHAMEFUL TO USE HANDBRAKE

If you need 550hp on sims then there's something seriously wrong. I don't dare go over 350hp on normal tires because you don't need it. Drifting isn't about hp, it's about car control. The suspension setup you gave was also pathetic.

My advice is to buy a low power RWD and leave it stock. Buy sims and learn on that. Once you learn a little more about tuning a car for drifting, make minor adjustments to the car fitting your needs and style. I'd say start with a AE86, S13 Slivia, or FC.
For tuning, you don't need anything complicated or fancy for this. You'll find that a few minor adjustments will do just fine. I wouldn't mess with the gearing, maybe just make the gears a bit closer.

There is a wide parking-lot type section on the Special Stage 5 track... it's right before you get into the really really really tight sections... if you can, use the wet track and just start doing donuts in the little parking lot thing... don't be afraid about hitting the wall... just keep nice big flowing donuts around and around, you will eventually get a really good feeling for the car when it is sideways. Try doing it in both directions.
