Folks, next-gen is HERE!

This right here looks pretty much CGI, it is ALL REAL TIME though. I don't find the words to describe the awesome. If Epic can top that tomorrow (Thursday) with their tech demo presentation (UE4), I'll salute them. But for now, this tech demo is the most advanced and impressive real time scene ever created.

Enjoy.

wow  ,how astonishing is that will be the level of games we play in he next few years

Wow, that looks amazing. Looks pretty realistic. 👍

I hope to see more about this type of stuff.

Amazing. From this...

To the tech demo above in my gaming life so far. Who knows what we'll get in another 30 years.

Posted in the other threads but I think its own thread is a good idea to stop it derailing the others. It look stunning but I hatE to be a party pooper but from what I can gather this is what they are aiming for and its running on PC hardware not a dev kit from either Sony or Microsoft.

Next gen will be lovely and if this will run on NG hardware then they are not simply the basic PC kit thats been touted at the moment. I will be following this closely but with scepticism in mind as i said in one of the other threads we were all drawn in by Gurilla's Killzone Tech Demo. I hope they prove me wrong I really do because if they are knocking this out now, think what they will have once they have had a few games cycles under thier belt.

Games used to give you 30 to 60 and sometimes even more hours of quality playtime, from start to finish.

Now? You're lucky if you find a game longer than 15 hours, with some that you can finish in as little as 7 or even 4 hours! The average I've seen lately is 12 hours. They're also easier, but that is a story for a different time.

Why? The graphics. The tradeoff is not worth it in my humble opinion. Yes, I'd be lying if I said that that video didn't look astonishing, but I think games should stay in the current generation graphically, lest the content quantity diminishes even more. Not only are games taking more time to be released (quality games not games like EA's), but they are also shorter than ever before.

I can't get excited after the last tech demo for what became Final Fantasy XIII. It looks impressive, but will there actually be a fun to play Final Fantasy game in there?

It looks impressive of course but as above, they also need to make a great game. Haven't enjoyed a FF since X.

I'd like to see it at 60fps though, that 30fps video on YT was hard to follow in places.

So it was ran on a PC with the latest top-end CPU with a GPU of similar performance. That's quite a rough detail of what they used. For what we could know they could be talking about maybe an Ivy Bridge cpu or maybe a LGA 2011 socket cpu?

Agnis Philosopy Tech Demo Info

In a huge interview with RPGSite, Yoshihisa Hashimoto said that all the parts – that have been used for running the Agnis Philosophy Tech Demo – are things readily available in the PC market right now. RPGSite pushed a little to find out what graphics card was powering Square Enix’s demo and although Hashimoto didn’t reveal its name, he said that ‘what I can say is that what we’re using is about the equivalent as what is being used by any other companies for their tech demos.‘

The equivalent as what is being used by any other companies huh? Well, we do know that Epic Games demonstrated Unreal Engine 4 on a single GTX 680. And we do know that Crytek used a GTX 680 for their CryEngine 3 tech demos. Gearbox has also used Nvidia’s GTX 680 cards to showcase the PC, PhysX accelerated, version of Borderlands 2. It’s also no secret that Nvidia’s GTX 6xx series was heavily used in this year’s E3 and we also know that the freshly released GTX 690 was not used by any company to showcase their tech demos.

Thing is though, that use to be 30 to 60 hours of the same mind numbing crap. Fun at times yes, but they were repetitive. Good games now 'Uncharted and the likes' have such a rich story line and combined with this, such rich graphics, means that that 10-12 hour game is about spot on for what gamers and developers want.

The 4-6 hours are not good enough and you're right, but generally with games that long, the focus is intently on multiplayer.

If this is Square-Enix's vision of the future, they really need to follow through on it, because I'm sorry to say that Final Fantasy has been going downhill for a while now. They really need to make up for the disappointing XIII and XIV.

Epic and Square Enix sign Unreal Engine 3 and Unreal Engine 4 license agreement

Square Enix Signs Long-Term Unreal Engine Licensing Agreement

Multi-title deal provides Square Enix developers with full access to Unreal Engine 3 and Unreal Engine 4 technology across its studios

Epic Games announced today an agreement with Square Enix granting Square Enix a group-wide license to develop multiple games with Epic's award-winning Unreal Engine 3 and its breakthrough Unreal Engine 4 technology.

Epic Games Japan, which is providing local support, worked directly with Square Enix on the new license. This sweeping agreement will supplement Square Enix's proprietary software and ensure the studio is armed with the most powerful game development tools and technologies available across all major platforms.

“Epic has a strong relationship with Square Enix, and it’s an honor to provide their creative and technical talent with the best game technology available for licensing,” said Taka Kawasaki, territory manager of Epic Games Japan. “We look forward to supporting their developers with world-class tools for years to come."

Perhaps the Luminous Engine will be used strictly for FF games.....time will tell.

Pretty sure, considering the PS3 can already do this:

EDIT: Actually I think the Beyond character looks better in some ways (hair especially).
