It looks so weird to see an entire field of cars straying from the racing line in GT4.

Is Sony planning voice chat? I noticed one of the players' names appeared in orange towards the beginning on the Trial Mountain vid.

lol those videos don't exactly inspire much confidence in GT online racing!

They NEED to find a way to penalize idiots if they don't include damage, or we'll all end up racing only with friends :(

As with any online game, you'll have to learn to deal with the idiots that try to ruin the fun for everyone else. ;)

That's true, it's just in the trial mountain vid those idiots made almost the whole field come to a stop and the whole thing looked like a dodgem contest, and there was no punishment for it.

Well, here is what I'm taking from the videos - specifically the 80's car race at Fuji.......

the description shows a hp and weight limit. I hope limits make a return to GT like they were in GT2....

I'm glad it’s not coming out now, because I am selling my PS2 in October, and well I would rather have GT5 with online over GT4 with the added online mode.

They should code the game to recognize wall-riding, using the car in front of you to stop, and other such non-sense and give them special conditions race style 5 second penalty for it.

Minor shunts and bumps are to be expected in a tight field (this is racing after all...) and should not be penalized.

Flags...all it needs is flags and race regulations...wall rides (if damage isn't included) should be punished by some kind of stop-go penalty. Warnings/Drive throughs for dangerous driving...disqualifications if the offence is serious enough (these particulars should be included regardless of damage)

i dont think it will ever happen
You don't think what will happen? The online mode? The penalties? Be more specific in your posts, for the sake of all of us. ;)

I think that instead of just a standard 5 second penalty, the penalization time should vary depending on the severity of the accident. For example, if you just tap the bumper of the car in front of you, with no affect on the cars' stability, maybe you should get a 3 second penalty. But if you slam on the gas and use your opponent to make it around a turn, causing the entire field of racers to go off the track, you should get a 10 second penalty. 10 seconds is severe, yes, but necessary to teach people who don't use proper driving techniques a lesson.

Just my two cents. ;)

Could lead to problems. What if you go in to a turn on the inside line, you're in a perfectly legal passing position but understeer heavily and hit the car on the outside of you sending it off the track?

It'd be the inaccuracy of penalties all over again

You'll just have to know it is a game, and that every game has flaws. Also, you could learn some driving techniques to assist you in coping with the understeer. ;)

As <_Spike_> said, there's no way for these penalties to recognize "bad" mistakes and "innocent" mistakes.

The only thing you can do is provide the option to have no-collision servers (like racing ghosts in real-time), or tweak the collision physics so that crashes aren't that big of an issue (while making sure wall-riding isn't beneficial, of course).

Looks like $ony lied again, how many times are they gonna lie to us, there's no online edition in north america. Oh well looks like microsoft for me for here on out. I'm tired of $onys lies.

They never lied. They never said they were going to release GT4O, and they didn't. Big surprise.

If you're wondering about the videos, they're from the Japanese GT4O beta test.

If you read this entire thread, you'd realize they didn't lie to us. ;)

Technically they lied when they said that GT4 would have online at release or soon after, but that's clutching :D

They did, they said they would release a GT4:online later last year to help cut down any bad feelings from GT4 having it's online mode cut out They never did and they never will release it. This is nothing more than a network test, the fact Sony isn't giving free copies of GT4 to anyone else is nothing big, they don't need to whole world taking part in the test.

It's not for public release, it's a test of Sony's online network in Japan.
