I am absolutely furious at the stupid Nano, what the 🤬 is that thing, first things first, they got rid of the one you could hold with your hand, and the cameras gone, video playback is gone, game apps and everything, fail apple. I know why they did this though, because apparently the sales of the Nano were bad last year so they made it smaller (less money to make), they took the camera off, and adapted it to the touch. Hasn't anybody noticed the fact their trying to get all of their sales around the Touch? I'm happy with my old Nano with that cam, thanks. :)

@ Robin

When you were talking about the Korean MP3 players, that is exactly what came to mind, BUT I LOVEZ MEH TRACK WHEEL!

And I'm happy with my old Touch without the camera. If I want to take a picture, I'll use my 500D and if I need "face time" with someone, I'll flippin' drive over to their house.

Honestly I make use of about 15GBs of my 80GB classic just for music. What takes up the space is all the files I store on it. I'd rather listen to what my mood wants than firing a virtual gun at everyone. It would get dead boring in a few minutes so it's kinda of a waste.

I have owned my classic for 3 years so far. The battery life is starting to fade away and it has a few dents. I have also noticed the responsiveness of the click wheel go down due to wear and tear. It's about time for the 3 year old to retire and a new classic to come in.

👍

I've had my classic for nearly 4 years, and while the battery life is going, it still does it's job. There's 60gb of solely music on there too, and yeah, I definitely don't need all that for small trips away from the house, but it does help when I'm at a friends and we want to listen to any of my library. I never got a case for it and I actually like that it's showing signs of the wear and tear over the years; proves that despite popular opinion, these suckers are actually pretty tough.

I think I might buy another Classic before they kill it, because it's still the preferred option for me, as the price/GB ratio is what sells it. I use it as a a music storage device, with a handful of videos when the mood strikes me, so it makes more sense than any of the others. The Touch in particular is useless to me; it's an iPhone, without the phone.

I'm surprised to hear that. Either you guys wear off your iPods badly for some reason, or I am brilliant to preserve my battery as it currently holds longer than when I bought it. When I first bought it, I don't think it lasted longer than 6 hours straight. But now I can use it every single day, and I only have to charge it once a week, if not once in 2 weeks. I am absolutely amazed at the battery life it currently has.

Cheaper than Itouch and uses Andriod. Also has a mini HDMI output, a stand, camera and more. Don't forget to check out the other PMPs from Archos too.

I agree they are better, but gaming on the iPod touch should be better and the screen is higher res.

I think I'll get the touch, I just need to justify the price somehow.

I was reading up on the new line yesterday, and when I came across the shuffle I couldn't help noticing this "feature." I get that Apple dropped the ball with the last shuffle, forcing you to use their proprietary headphones if you wanted any control over your music, but really, buttons? I can't wait for the innovative, forward thinking features they'll tout with the next shuffle. Like the fact that it comes in a box and has a battery

The nano is too small. In a bad way, as in, I probably wouldn't be able to use it. I like the idea, and I'm amazed they could fit everything it offers into a package that tiny, but any gadget that is so small that I'd actually forget I'm carrying it isn't for me.

The touch is just a natural progression building off the last model and the iPhone 4, so no surprises here. Don't mean to be down on it, but for me it really is one of those situations where my phone can do almost all of that stuff, and so I don't really need a multimedia device that can run apps, do videochat and make sandwiches. But if I were in the market for something like that, I'd definitely have to consider it. Especially cause of the retina display

I am still in the market for a no frills music player, though. Which would make the classic the perfect fit.

Which is the reason why I getting my old classic replaced while I still can(best buy warranty still intact). So I can enjoy the 160GB hard drive over the 80GB, 36 hours of music playing over the old 30 hours, and according to words on this forum: better sound quality.

I don't buy that sound quality thing, though. It's not as if you'll go "ZOMG my Zune sounds so much better!" unless you're a robot able to break down the music in fragments and review its quality. Music players are music players and if the quality is crap you'll probably have an old CD or your computer did a hell of a bad job of ripping the music into iTunes.

I am lucky I've got the very first generation, still works like brandnew minus the scratches from wear of course. Now that I've got an iPhone I gave my iPod to my sister but I asked her to take as good care of it as she possible can.

I can definitely tell the difference between my 2G iPhone's output, my Classic and my old Sony A818. I even have an old iRiver H320, and that has a different sound to it. Yes, sound quality is very much an subjective thing most of the time, but once you move up to better headphones you realise how important a better source is.

I am really glad with the ipod nano. I have always used an ipod via an alpine headunit as my audio setup so now the Nano is small enough to be hidden almost anywhere. The 3g was my last favourite one and I would have kept it but it was becoming difficult to reduce my library to under 8gb. So I have been using the iphone since then instead as the 4/5g were a bit too tall for my liking. Also getting rid of the camera and video were both good moves. Both were pointless on the nano (the screen was too small for video playback).

The touch screen looks to be potentially problematic. But that does not bother me since I never need to use the ipod interface anyway.

I wonder when apple stores will have them in stock. I know online they are available but apparently wont arrive for 7-10 days. Plus I want to see the nano in person before I seal the deal.

I'm actually digging the new Nanos... (wife has a 4th gen). Sure... they're not the most useful things in the universe, but then... an old Nano was? Not! Most cellphones have better cameras than the 4g Nano, and I always have a DSLR or at least a 10 megapixel point and click with me... so I'm not actually starved of video and photo taking devices.

Never liked the clickwheel, either. Even after getting used to it, it's not a great interface.

Thinking of giving in to the darkside... a new Nano, engraved, would look great on my wife's wrist. :D

It's too fiddly for me, the old one I can just unlock and skip a track without taking it out out my pocket. Plus it's nice and slim in my pocket.

I think thye should of called it something else or replaced the shuffle with it.

I suppose the idea is that you now control your touch screen iPods by buying a set of Apple headphones with the remote/mic attached. Which (although fiddly) sort of do the job - right up until you find yourself wanting to use a pair of headphones that didn't cost £4 to produce (as F1GTR did a long time ago, I imagine). Thankfully mine perpetually lives in a Yamaha iPod dock anyway, so I couldn't care less what the headphones sounded like. If you're an audiophile and want to actually use it on journeys/the commute/whatever, I imagine it's quite annoying.

Apple headphone are horrible.

It just seems difficult to use. It's like designed for on the go people, while it functions as something you have to concentrate on to use.

They cost £30 aswell, for comparitivly bad headphones to others for the same money.

You forgot to mention the fact that they are horrible, horrible things to use, too. There's a reason they're not more popular.

I'm TOATALLY loving your proof and reasoning. I'm guessing you're a fanboy of Ipods and Apple products.

I think the Archos would be good if you want something like an Itouch but don't want Itunes and would prefer Android. I do agree though that the screen res is low.. but then, why not plug it into your TV and watch a 1080p video? But like if you want a touchscreen MP3 player under $100 I personally think its an AMAZING deal.

Oh boy, ergonomics is subjective. Also you don't need iTunes to use an iPod.

Maybe they could create a full screen "skip" icon?

True... something like "Shuffle+" or maybe even "Nano+". But I wouldn't be surprised if it sells like hotcakes.

Yeah, look at the iPad.

Yup. Big useless piece of aluminum. Not quite as useful as a netbook. Not much lighter. Hard to photoshop or edit with, despite the big touchscreen, hard to type on unless you buy the expensive keyboard attachment. No built-in GPS or 3G, just Wifi... at least they have multi-tab browsing (one tab loading at a time... though).

And yet... it's a fascinating toy. My mom has one, my brother has one, and it's my daughter's favorite plaything. Patently useless... but definitely fun.

Which is why my wife and kid use it at home while I still lug my netbook to work. Still looking for a car-mount that'll allow them to watch movies in the car without covering the AC vents.

Can anyone tell me if the New Nano has coverflow? I know it has album art. That might be a deal breaker for me because I strangely want it eventhough its not running iOS and can't use apps.

Also I wish Apple would stop bundling those terrible headphones with all the players and then maybe knock some $ of the price.

Robin.

Probably not - the old way to enable it seems to have disappeared, and I don't recall seeing it in the menu system while Steve was demoing it. And I wouldn't be surprised if they did stop bundling the white earbuds eventually, but you can be damn sure the price of an iPod won't drop as a result. They'll be phased out just like the included power adaptor was 5 years ago. And I bet they'll say it's to reduce the packaging size, therefore suddenly being fine simply because it's 'greener'. [/cynicism]
