Leftlanenews.comMazda is said to be planning a high-performance MPS version of its MX-5 Miata roadster. According to AutoCar magazine, the car could have up to 265 horsepower via a 2.3-litre turbo engine or even a turbod version of the existing motor. Mazda is widely believed to be planning a folding hardtop-convertible version of the car, according to reports from AutoWeek and AutoBild. With the new folding-hardtop model expected this summer, it seems possible that the new MPS model would arrive at the same time.
I don't think it is anything that anyone didnt allready expect, but it will be interesting to see what engine they decide to use under the hood. My bet is going to be on the DI-2.3L from the Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6, probably adjusted to around 260HP as mentioned above.
...So then it looks as though we will have a Solstice GXP vs Mazdaspeed MX-5 battle on our hands as well...
IMO: It would be a very tight race between the two with both around 260HP, and it would come down to price in my book. The Mazda will probably have the better balance overall, but I would be the GXP would surprise a few folks as well...
