New Mini Concept

That thing looks fresh. I dig the box look, but I'd never drive a box.

I guess it would look a little better if they applied the design to a standard mini.

I'd be able to swallow it if the headlights were a little better. The rear end looks interesting. The wheels won't carry over to production... impractical and heavy (Thank God!)... likely to be replaced by something more petite, and hopefully with thicker rubber than the current Mini... this IS supposed to be the "practical" one.

Any of the current Mini's designed under BMW Group are not Mini's there just a 1 series with a mini badge on them.

Well, recently I was thinking, “Damn, if I want a Mini, I’ll have to get a used one, since I can’t afford a new one – and new models are coming soon, so that’ll be a shame.”

But, thank goodness, it looks like the old Minis will be the way to go! Score for the used-car buyers!

Uhhh... different drivetrain, completely different engines, Front Wheel drive versus Rear Wheel drive, different chassis.... how are they just a 1-series with a Mini badge?

I think BMW did a pretty good job of translating the Mini experience the best they could. They did a modern take on the Mini design, they caught the feel of the handling without completely pandering to the original specs, and they made it a decently liveable car... except for the rear seats... BMW just has no idea how to fit rear seats into small cars for some reason (see 1-series and old 3-series).

Now if only they didn't pin a BMW price tag on the "new" Mini, it'd be worthy of the name... as it is, it's still a neat car.

Anyone can change any part of a car its still a 1 series with a mini badge.

The new Mini's which are not mini's are rubbish and its offical.

The current Mini's arn't that bad, thay arn't mini but they don't look too bad. This is just a bastardisation of an icon.

PS
Wth do you want with it? It's 50 years after the original car was made, how much do you want it to look alike? It's pretty damn close as far as I'm concerned.
I want it to look nice, I want it to have similar style cues to the original at the same time. This looks nothing like how the Mini would look now if it was still British. This is horrible.

I think any of us who like to draw cars should do are own mini concept.

Arghh!! It's a PT cruiser!

I see they went for this look...

They don't? :dopey:

Now, I gotta make up the time I could've done hm... :grumpy:

You do one now, but not for the comps or anything? That forum is a freaking ghost town. Good job by the way. I'd like to see a more detailed version!

I only stopped for the summer and yeah it is a ghost town... :grumpy: Thanks :D I've been doing nothing but wips because I don't have that much time to spend on them. :grumpy: I'll try to do a more detailed one though since I can draw all of a sudden. :dopey:

Unfortunately for Live4Speed and all the other Classic Brit' fans, that Mini does look like a "British-designed" car. Exactly the kind of thing I'd expect from the Horbury school (not the Bangle-school, mind you). A lot of new cars have that look. But I can't help thinking they compromised the looks too much. If only they'd keep the headlights from the previous one... just to save on production costs...

:indiff: I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't call it a Mini, I mean it's not that ugly from the side anyway I've seen worse. I just wish BMW would stop using that name.
Yeah, I agree. I kinda like it, but that car isn't what Mini's suppose to be be. Is it?

I see a little Aston Martin with the headlight and grill designs. I see Land Rover/Range Rover on the sides. At the back, I don't want to come up with a comment that will make these boards like "what you been smoking, John?"

I'm going to have to agree. I normally say the Scion xB isn't too bad, but I'm not going to start knocking the Torrance, CA-based Scion over and over again (isn't there an expression for continually hating on something or continually referring to something over and over again in talking about something else?). To me, someone wanted to make the Mini more manly and more aggressive. NEWS FLASH: I don't think it ever was meant to be something to stand out like a Ferrari Enzo or the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. I've always seen the Mini Cooper as a functional car that put the fun in functional. It's a British beauty even if it isn't made by the bigtime British exotic car makes. If this is going to be the new direction of the Mini, I'd at least want to see it as an alternative Mini, not the one to completely replace the current evolution of it.

My suggestions? I like the current-spec Mini Cooper. These newer designs aren't too bad, but I think the Mini Cooper is not a boring car. It's distinctive, has that cool factor, it almost pays complete homage to the classic 1960s Mini Coopers, only more modernized. You want to make the current Mini Cooper better? Keep the one you have now, then maybe work on a more utilitarian model for people to use. Maybe it would a nice alternative. But I don't see these pictures being the next Mini Cooper. I think it would ruin what the Mini Cooper was all about. It wasn't about the smallest-possible automobile that's 50 states legal and safe. To me, it was about a functional automobile that you can have fun with, even if it isn't a Mustang or a Camaro, or even a Miata. It was small, but it was still functional and handles like a go-kart. You want to ruin that passion and that fire? That's your call, player. Just don't ruin the Mini enough to the point where it takes on a personality it was never meant to be. I dn't work in the automobile business, so I can't force the issue as I see fit. But you have my word and my advice. Now are you digging this?

I think you summed it up perfectly John. The Mini was never meant to stand out, it was supposed to be a practical car with performance credentials. This on the other hand, looks like it's trying too hard to be cool. Which is a bit odd, since the current Mini is a very cool car, loved by automotive enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike. This current design is only sure to alienate the Mini from the enthusiasts, who to the best of my knowledge do make up a significant portion of Mini owners.

Ok so here is some spy shots of this so called 'mini', you can see they have used the coopers headlights, not those ones that look almost verticle! still quite ugly too! there is something about i like about it though, maybe because its different!
