Another Merc seasonal?
Grr. A lesson learned:
I managed a fairly easy silver last night on Madrid in a Clio Renaultsport but wheelspin was a bit of an issue to put it mildly. So I looked on the leaderboards to see what everyone else was using. I switched to my Integra RM and loaded up the #1 ghost replay only to see some "yahoo" plowing into the corners.
I think to myself: "Hah, you fool! I'm going to beat your time cleanly and show you up!" The new time trials had just come out so I thought I still had a bit of a shot.
Again, I hit silver right off the bat but I'm having trouble shaving off those last tics.
All the while the "yahoo" is just in front, bouncing off the barriers and dive-bombing the corners. I start to modify my breaking spots, tightening my line. My consistency improves and I'm in front of the yahoo now for half the lap - except for where he dive-bombs the corner, bouncing off the side rails like the "yahoo" idiot he/she is!
Alright! So now the kid gloves are off, a bead of sweat on my brow, teeth gritted, my eyes glaring at the screen and the "idiot yahoo's" bumper laughing at me as it skitters away in a hail of sparks. I gun it trying to catch up but my anger has gotten the better of my throttle control and the comfort softs (damn you comfort softs this isn't the drift trial!) aren't cooperating...
And then, suddenly, a calm comes over me. I'm ahead. My line is perfect. Smooth. Fast. Calm. Beautiful. I come into the dreaded corner...
I push too hard, break too late... stupid. The comfort softs quit and I slide right into the barrier! Just like the "yahoo".
Had I the sense at the time to restart I would have avoided this mess but in wanting to best the "yahoo" I became one myself. I came 4th on the leaderboards much to my chagrin. I tried for another hour to beat my own time cleanly so my replay wouldn't be another "idiot yahoo", but no dice.
Let this be a lesson to you all!
I'll be in the corner.
I hope this doesn't in any way sound like bragging, but I think the grand valley times are too generous. I used the '10 Subaru from the extreme event, with a little upward adjustment on the gearing and beat the gold time by 4 sec on my first 'warm up' lap. Anyone else finding this?
Managed to eventually post a time of 56:2xx in the Intergra RM at Madrid. I placed somewhere around 450 in the rankings. With a bit more patience I can probably get it into the high 55's on a totally clean run. Frustrating about the top runners really!
yeah - in a down-tuned Nissan Race Car! I don't know why this annoys me, but it does.
