"new posts" - possible to get more than 100 threads listed?

I regularly run into a problem when I don't have the time to visit GTP more than twice a day: I hit the "100 new posts"-barrier. Especially over night, when I sleep and the other side of the world, mainly the US, is active, this tends to happen. Also, I find 25 threads displayed per page a little slim. Would it be possible to change that option to 50 threads per page on four pages, meaning a limit of 200 threads? Then, I wouldn't be missing so much anymore.

EDIT: See the solution in post #18 or go right there by clicking >here<

I do agree with you. Usually when it is over 100 threads I, go through each forum to see if I haven't missed anything.

I remember a year or two back it was reduced to 100 posts to reduce server load, though.

Maybe it could be a small but effective Premium feature?

I too would love that !...

The limit was reduced to 100 threads to help alleviate server load. As a premium feature, it might be hard to institute, but that would be a nice feature, that I'd certainly use.

Is it possible to make the New Posts specific to whatever area of the site you are interested in...? Say you want to see the 100 last posts on GTPlanet as a whole, you'd click the link that exists at the moment. But say you wanted to see only the last 100 posts in the Gran Turismo section, could there be a link for that too?

The limit has bothered me as well, but searches already give us the majority of our problems. It won't/can't increase on our current hardware configuration, but that may be changing soon.

Yes, very possible! You can include specific forums (and categories) by appending their forumid number onto the end of the search URL. For example:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/search.php?do=getnew&f=9,12

The above link would only return new threads in the Gran Turismo and Online Racing categories.

How about making this a premium feature (which is a very good idea of you guys!)? I don't know how many premium members there are, but I guess the server could live with that.

That sound's very nice for a start. Is there a list of the forums and their numbers then?

It's a global variable, and providing different limits for different usergroups would be quite a job to implement.

As for forumid's, as Duck said you can simply look at your address bar when you're inside a forum, or hover your mouse over a link to the forum and look down at your status bar. The forumid will follow the 'f' in ?f=3 in the URL that is shown.

Fair enough, I'll make a list of forum numbers next week and post it here. So, everyone can make his own, personal "new posts".

Just so you know, I tried creating my custom new posts gig several months ago, and while it worked for the first day... it stopped refreshing a day later. You'd almost have to manually add your custom new posts feature to your bookmark bar daily instead of just leaving it there.

Any idea why it stopped working? And what exactly does "it stopped refreshing" mean?

You bookmarked an address like https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/search.php?searchid=1417286, didn't you? Notice the unique "searchid" for the query. You must bookmark the specific link I discussed above (which includes the forumid's) - NOT the resulting page that link directs you to.

Post it as a sticky! Some of us are off for a few days at a time, and it gets troublesome. I'm glad somebody else has brought this topic up... +rep to you, man... ;) ...and another one when you post the forum ID list.

Now, you can put your personal "new posts" link together using these numbers, just as Jordan explained. What you have to do is use the following link, accompanied by the numbers of the forums you want to be up to date about:
Jordan
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/search.php?do=getnew&include=9,12
In this example, you will see all new posts made since your last visit of the forums Gran Turismo (9) and On-Line Racing (12). These forums include all the subforums written right below in the list. If you want to be more specific, you have to pick out the ones you want. Then, bookmark the above quoted link with those numbers, seperated by commas.

You can also take the other way around by using the term "exclude" instead of "include". Then, you will only be updated about the forums you do not list, which is helpful if you just want to get rid of a few.

Impotant note:
It is not possible to enter that link into the address bar of your browser, do the search and then bookmark the result. This won't work, because once you've sent your search, the forum will create a number (called "searchid") for this specific search and store it for a set amount of time. If you reload the link, you will only get the result of that specific search again, the forum won't do a new search. Additionally, the forum will delete that search result after a while, so you won't get any result anymore. It only works when you bookmark the link as quoted above, only with your numbers. Then, the forum will do a new search every time you open that link.

My apologies, the &f parameter does not work with more than two forumid's. Instead, you need to use &include, like so:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/search.php?do=getnew&include=61,11,10,55,156

The above link, for example, will show all new threads from the GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4, and GT5 forums. You can also replace the word "include" with "exclude" for the corresponding effect.
