Meh, it's alright. But, this one is still the best...

That is about the freaking ugliest game console design I have ever seen. And no its not real.
I don't think so either. I say it's a April Fool's joke that's a week early. :dopey:

But, the UMD is interesting. It could be a PSP home station, or something.

That's just a photoshop job being spread around. Whoever made it forgot about controller ports... ;) (unless the idea was to have all devices wireless)

Yeah, that, and it looks too much like this clock radio Sony used to make. Perhaps that's what they used to make this thing.

Highly doubtful that the first one will be it. Sony will have to keep the PS3's size somewhere between the range of the PS2 and the slim model. It'll also have to be VERY good looking of it if they want the unit to be inside of people's home entertainment systems.

Microsoft learned that the hard way with the oversized uglyness of the X-Box. That is also why the next gen X-Box will be smaller and better designed. I'll also bet good money that it'll serve as a PVR either straight out of the package or with a minor accessory.

My guess for the PS3 is that it'll take design ideas from the PSX (the home entertainment device, not the PS1) which IMO was originally designed as a form of beta testing various non-gaming features that will be included in the PS3.

Sony did hint at all wireless connectivity for the PS3. Whether or not that will make it to the final unit is still up in the air. I'd wager they'll have it just because the PSP has integrated wifi

I used to like the bigger designs better........... until I had to carry them to friends' houses.

Boy, do I love the new PSTwo!

I've never like the PS controller. Any info on the PS3 controller?

I hope its the same as the PS2 controller! I think its one of the best controller designs on the market.

I hope there won't be wireless controllers like wiht Xbox2. Batteries are sucked up so fast.

I think they will be. I bet the controller design will be similar, but with some modifications. I would like triggers like on the xbox controller atleast. The latest line of logitech controllers get 50 hours with vibration on, thats good battery life if you ask me. It would not surprise me if they got logitech to do the controller since they have experience with wireless. Just invest in rechargeable batteries, they will save you sooo much money in the longrun.

Oh, and don't expect to see UMD on the PS3 either. The blue ray drives are already going to cost sony a fortune. I think we will see the blue ray drive, a memory stick slot, 4x ports for wired controllers, 4 USB 2.0 ports, and perhaps a memory card slot for PS2 games. (well, I'm betting that sony makes the conversion to using memory stick instead of memory cards.) Who knows though.. I think we will definatly see built in ethernet (no modem though), HDMI will probably be included too because of the blue ray drive. And, AFAIK neither the Xbox2 or PS3 will have hard drives.

Wouldn't they use Bluetooth for the wireless controllers?

Doubt they'll need 4USB 2.0 ports. It's not like I have more than 2 devices for it now (Sisters dancemat and usb memory stick.)

The "thing" actually looks pretty cool, imo. And I don't think it's a photoshop because of the reflections on the front facia (on the bigger picture and on the small one on the right).

That picture is not real. Also I dont think any gamer cares to much what their game console looks like as long as it is good. And the chances of the ps3 being wireless is virtually nil as who wants to have to recharge/buy new batteries which could take them away time from actually playing the game.

The gamers who care what the console looks like, arn't gamers they're interior decorators. I mean I bought a Nintendo and N64 and SNES none of those were visually appealing, but oh flippin well

It matters a great deal what a console looks like since MANY people take pride in the appearance of their entertainment centres. Especially nowadays as these entertainment systems are more and more becoming the centerpieces of many living rooms. Appearance is even more important because Sony is probgably going to try and make the PS3 an all in one wonder-box sort of thing like the PSX. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it had most of the same features as the PSX (PVR, dvd burning, etc) since these features now cost next to nothing to implement.

Honestly, would you pay money for an expensive, high end product to be in the middle of your living room if it looked like ass? More importantly, would a person's mother/wife allow something that's not elegant and well designed in plain sight? I know my mom wouldn't.

If it burned DVD's played DVD's had a HD for music, played good video games, and all the afformentioned features. yeah I'd buy it AND show it off even if it looked like crap. For 1, it would save space no matter HOW Ugly it was because it would be a reciever (that saves a good 1'x1'x3" of space played and burned DVD's that saves anywhere from the size of a dual decked player/burner or having 2 separate ones if it's got hi def sound output you don't need a CD player there's even MORE space cleared up....and i could tell all my friends "hey, your entertainment system is cluttered mine only has one box"

Yes I would pay more for something that saved me that much time and effort. Hell I did it for the Ps2, because that was no piece of eye candy either, but it played DVD's (or so it was advertized to do)

Don't worry about it. It's not the next PS game console. In fact, word has it that people from NVidia have stated for the record that the next game console for Sony wont be called 'PS3'. What?

For a start, the use of the phrase "PlayStation 3" on the slide is unusual, since Sony has been carefully avoiding using that phrase in association with its next-generation console, and sources close to the company - including graphics chip manufacturer NVIDIA - have stated that the system will not be called that.

The presence of a UMD bay is also peculiar; it's labelled as "PS3 / PSP UMD MediaMove" in the picture, which suggests that it would be a drive for writing UMDs as well as reading them, but Sony has so far been hugely resistant to that concept.

Indeed, the company is so determined not to allow people to write to UMD discs that even game developers working on PSP games haven't been given drives that can do so, and instead have to send off builds to Sony to be put onto UMDs for testing purposes.

Obviously its not gonna be butt ugly but I hardly thing if the ps3 was uglier than evemn the xbox it wouldnt put off any ps2 customers.

The Dual Shock is the best controller there is. Xbox had a too big controller and had to develop a Controller S. That is such a big mistake. THe PS2 controller is not small, not big its perfect.

About that PS3, why they just don't take a PS2 box and stuff in the modern PS3 techology. I like the design of the PS2 and it is easy that it is all at the front instead of the PS1 were you had to change the CD at the upper side.

What's wrong with console designers these days, why can't they make the machines look as yummy as the DC? The xbox and PS2 both look like utter crap, though I do like the ps2's shiney lights...
