New RaceRoom player, need some tips..

Okay, I'm new to RaceRoom and today I did my first proper racing miles with my rig, dfgt steeing wheel and a gaming mouse on the knee to navigate through the menu's.

First of all, I like the 3 free tracks, portimao for such a technical track, RaceRoom Track for a nice fictional track with good bents and Lakeview Hillclimb for good roadracing. I also discovered you can testdrive every car you can't buy, for 3 minutes (?) and then test drive it again. Yesterday had some fun with the WTCC car from BMW, I took it for a spin

Today I spent most of the time with a Time Trial Competition with Pepe Oriola's Seat Leon. Good car, good sound and fun to drive.

Well, to the point. Yesterday I had a reaction on twitter that I have to start with FWD cars in RRRe. Is this true ? Because the old BMW on Lakeview was also good to drive and to manage. It is just a matter of getting used to the different physics in RaceRoom, compared to GT6.

Are there more FWD cars other then the Seat Leon I don't know about? Or is it bullocks and can I start with every car/discipline I want ?

Of course you can. Most of the time when someone suggests a person start with a certain vehicle it is to help a beginner who is struggling or just starting out with sim racing. Obviously, there are cars that are easier to drive and if you find Touring cars aggravate you more than say GT cars (or vice versa) you might want to pick something you enjoy rather than get fed up and quit or just spoil the fun. Once you get use to an "easier" car you'll more than likely want another challenge and may even find the next series easier to learn.

There are many people that find that they are better at one series than another. Open wheelers with no downforce for instance present an entirely different challenge and can't be driven like a tintop. Some people can adapt, others struggle. Everyone finds their niche eventually.

Not suggesting that's your situation. I mention it because I have seen people gear up for a serious sim racing "career" before only to find out there is a lot of practice involved. Sim racing is definitely not for the impatient! lol
No amount of practice, knowledge, equipment is going to make me an alien but I always try to improve my personal abilities.

I think you're 100% right ! In Gt6 the gt-class fits me the best, with the most 'base models' I've a good base speed and can handle the cars ll on their own way... The Megane Rrophy is my most favourite car, some times tricky, but most of the times it is a good friend that listens good to my commands. The Lexus 430 Tc is a bit different to handle, more tailhappy, but I like it too.

With RR I've experienced so far that the wtcc cars handle the best in my window of fun, the sls amg gt was a bit too challenging, but the old bmw hillclimb car was a good car to handle. So I think those 2 packages would be the right way to start with. Oh yes, and I'm starting DIY-plans for making my own sequential shifter ... So maybe you already answered my question and concernings... ! 👍

What's the score with pricing and pc specs . I have seen it on steam just download size put me off. Is it worth a punt

I think it is ! Yes it's quite a huge download, but the game is worth a try, you will be surprised by the sound and the easy gameplay. I was surprized by all those details that can be personilized Like the view in the cockpit (up&down, forwards & backwards)and all the effects on the forcefeedback you can change.

I would bloody hope so as it's a simbin game as all there others were and are awesome i only have 2 games on steam Race07 and Gtrevo .. ok i'll check it out , as i sold my driving rig i will have to use a ps3 pad do it support pads?

You can play it with a pad. Although id advice to play with a steer
And the game is worth every single dollar/euro u put into it.
The tracks are high quality, carchoiche is more then sufficiënt, carquality and sound is superb.
I currently prefer this over AC to be honest

I just got the free version for right now and was wanting to try out my newly built PC to see how it will preform. I have a Thrustmaster TX wheel and will be putting the needed Drivers on the PC. But after that are there any settings that anyone would suggest I do before I get going???

First of all put the driver to your liking. for raceroom i use the ingame settings though. you can easily change your steering degree and wheel lock for each car individually at its settings.i usually have between 320-360 steering degree for wtcc/gt1-2-3 and alike with lock 19-21. And 450 steering degree for older cars such as dtm92/g5classics..
i just took pictures of my t300 driver settings yesterday.



I'd advice you to go and check the official forum ( https://forum.sector3studios.com/index.php) where you can find all necessary info cause you have different wheel though. There you will find different ingameffb settings etc. Experiment some with them and choose the one which suits you most.

I also have a TX, I would use 900 deg in the TM Control panel and then adjust the steering lock per car. R3E will default to around 540 deg. for GT/DTM type, and 900 deg. for some of the older cars. Much is personal taste but I think Sector3 sets the default to what the cars would run IRL. Once things are dialed in, this is a great sim., very immersive.

Edit: Sorry to say @katpeeler, you may have a hard time going back to GT or FM, you'll be spoiled by the feel of your TX in the PC sims (pCARS, GSCE, AC, R3E, etc.)

You are very right sir....It seems my TX wheel has came alive when I plugged into my PC...I was thinking of turning on Forza last night but was afraid I would be let down

I purchased my PC specifically for AC & feel the same as you, I prefer R3E to AC.

I've problems with my television, my rig + steer is being set for gt6 in my bedroom, 42" LG television but my PC won't recognize the LG anymore. Time after time I get a black screen, sound is working, but that's all I can get at this moment

Does anyone know how I get this working again, because it is an HDMI problem, this should/could a driver-related thing, isn't it?

Are you also using this PC with a monitor at other times?
Have you tried, shutting down the PC, plugging in the cable and then booting up... any luck?

I'm taking part in my first RaceRoom race tomorrow, and I was wondering if I could be given any tips. We will be driving the Saleen and the Canhard. I have some experience on Race 07, but I am struggling to find a good rhythm on this game. In case you were wondering, I use a 360 controller at the moment.

Havent got any controllerexperience on pc..
So my only advice is, get a steering wheel asap! You wont regret it..

I always played granturismo with a controler.. Now for about year and a half i have a steeringwheel and simracing truly became a hobby like playing tennis/soccer..

Anyone have any tips on ffb settings?
I'm experiencing violent shake on the straights and less force when turning on my dfgt.

I guess you should try to lower the overall FFB strenght because you get this shake and clipping in corners.

There is a forum for Raceroom.. Search Sector 3 forum and then community support.. People have posted their settings there and should give you a better idea what to have..
