Pleased with the success of the reintroduction of the Thunderbird (heh) and the absolutely fantastic reception the Taurus got (riiight), Ford is reintroducing the....

...Escort.

No, I'm not kidding. I wish I was though. I say they rename the Fusion the Ford LTD.

After the "Toyota reviving the AE86" thread the other day, it got me thinking that Ford should revive the Escort. A small RWD sedan..

That is NOT what I had in mind.... :yuck:

if it's not Escort cosworth, thiss will be a legendary failure from the curse of blue oval. they should let the legends rust in pieces..

Ford has completely lost it. Two years ago I thought they were far better off than GM, but in the past year they’ve gone completely bonkers.

APRIL FOOLS! :dopey:

They did this last year remember?

The Ford Falcon Futura Sprint! :D

Well, it is an interesting idea at the very least, and for the most part will be an interesting way to market an otherwise out-of-date car in America.

The part I have a hard time with is Ford's apparent lack of understanding that the name 'Focus' has a very positive aura around it. It is argueably one of the most successful 'modern' Ford products in a long time, and after running with that name for what, nine years, they're going to dump it?

...Please...

Certainly the name 'Escort' carries a lot of weight with it in terms of history, but when you consider the 'Escorts' that were made available in the US, the graceful nature of the brand was short-lived, pretty much limited to the '90s. And I'm going to be honest here, there aren't many people who fondly remember the 'Escort' name...

If there is one upside to all of this, Ford may be pulling a fast-one on us. Continue to sell the decidedly old-school Focus as the Escort, and then quietly begin importing the 'true' Focus to the US under the Focus name...

...Either way, it could be worse. They could call it the 'Maverick'...

Yeah yeah, ha ha. I've been really sick all day, so I'll believe just about anything in my delusional state.

Fever + nausea + diarrhea + vomit - sense of reason
---------------------------------------------------
lack of caring, and a distaste for food

Equals problems understanding whats going on. I'm doing my best...

If you are like that, then why in the hell are you on a computer, and not at a doctor? :odd:

 @ the - sense of reason part!

I'm surviving. I'm feeling better than I did earlier this morning, but I'm sick of laying down, so I'm trying to stay awake...

...I'm about ready to eat a bagel. We'll see what happens...

EDIT:

...And looking at the rather hideous 'Escort' nearly makes me vomit in my own mouth anyway, sick or not...

Yes, it was crap. It made no sense to have it, considering we had the Contour/Mondeo at the time...

wow you guys had a really crap escort back then :odd:

*sigh* Yeah. Like the later attempt at a Ford "World Car," the Focus, the Escort split ways between Europe and America.

Matthew Keller
Yeah, you called it the 'Mondeo'

No. They didn't get our Escort. We got their Mondeo. Remember the Contour?

WTF.

Everyone likes the Focus. It was an excellent car when it came out and is still very good, even though it's competition has moved on to bigger and better things.

Ford is now below Buick in my list of Lamest Car Companies Ever.

Well it's not like the european escort was a fantastic car, barring the mki&II.

It was so much better than what we had that the press here pretty much wet their pants when we got it in 2000. And I think it was out in Europe for a few years already by then.

We get the short stick when it comes to small cars here. I mean up until last year GM was building it's small car on a platform from 1982.

For a moment, this thread had me going.

It would've been a great way to bring in the new Focus... rebadge the "old" Focus as an Escort, give it a smaller footprint and new sheetmetal, and sell it at a low price. Bring in the new "Focus" at slightly premium pricing, and give it decent engines (more 2.0 power please, the current one is pathetic... oh, and a small V6 or I5 would be nice) and set it up against the Golf and the A3.

Ah well... whatever.
