Greetings,

I've been looking around for a premade system for a while now so I finally decided to go with Dell.. a few of my friends tell me that I could've gotten much better custom system for the price I paid and I don't blame them...but like I said, I wanted a premade system and a 4 year on-home/warrenty has to mean something?

This is what I got:

Dimension 4600 Series, Intel Pentium 4 Hyperthreading Technology Processor at 2.66GHz
512MB DDR SDRAM at 333MHz
17IN(16.0IN VIS)E773c Monitor,Midnight Grey,Dimension
40GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
3.5in Floppy Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition,Service Pack 1,English
Intel Pro 100M Integrated PCI NIC Card
56K PCI Data Fax Modem for Windows
48X Max Variable CD-ROM Drive,Factory Install
Dell Media Experience

..and plenty more unimportant software

Total was $500. Do you think I got ripped off?

P.S.- I know theres no video card included but I deselected it so it knocks the price down a little since I currently own a GF4.

I don't think you can argue with $500 for that. Given that the 3yr Carepaq on a Compaq server is $750!

You did get the E series display, which is the lower end offered by Dell, but it'll still make a picture (:

Personally I'm sticking to flat CRT Trinitrons for the time being. Until I can afford the $7,000 Sony Grand WEGA XBR 70" rear projection with DVI input.

Bue-yeah.

Thanks guys...appreciate it.

One more thing though..since I don't have a dual headed video card, is it possible to run dual monitors on (1)GF4 and (2)onboard video card? Someone said I might run into conflicts but what can it be?

No, you cannot. You can only have one enabled. If you have onboard video but also the GF4 plugged in, you wont get any video at all. Take out the GF4 and you can use your onboard, but if you want to use the GF4, you have to disable the onboard video in your bios before plugging the card in. Sorry.

I'm not sure. I've never really tried dual video cards, the only thing i DO know is that you cant use onboard and the GF4 at the same time. Sorry. :\

i was able to use onboard and ati 9200 @ the same time, but now i disabled the on board cuz it not as good, im not gonna say it sucks cuz i could play cs and the graphics still kicked ass, now i play @ a higher res.. :D

so it WILL work? I don't have a dual head gfx card nor I have enough money to spend on another card anytime soon. But I heard that if I connect one monitor on my gf4 and one monitor on my onboard it will just show the same **** on both screens, not extended...is it true?

mine has an extended button, but remember mine is ati...
i have 2 options looking at it right now:
[] Use this device as the primary monitor
[] Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor
i could check both
off course only if your card can support multiple monitors thats 2 or more...

All right! Sounds like you got a really good system, expecially for the price!

 and have fun! :)

Thanks!!

I saw the specs on your PC and that's just insane! wish I could afforda PC like that & since you got the dual monitors setup, maybe you can help me out with my problem as they have been stated above :(

No, it will not work.

You can't do this...., sorry.

You have to have a dual head video card. I've seen some macs where you could run a AGP and a PCI video card at the same time, but not on the PC side. It's is in the BIOS that you set the Video card source to A) AGP B) PCI or C) On Board.

This is your limitation. Get a dual or Tri head video card if you need multi-monitor support.

On a PC you can have two monitors, AGP and PCI, or PCI PCI, but I'm not sure about PCI and Onboard.

I'm actually looking around for a cheap PCI so I can run dual monitors. I can't be sure about that onboard stuff, never liked it.

I agree, when you find a cheap PCI dual headed card, link me :)

I already have one AGP card, so I only need a single head.

For you, I have something: Video Card. I asked some people over at a geekfest forum I go to just to be sure, and they said it would work. When you install, make sure to disable the onboard. Also, don't configure the new video card until AFTER you install the newest drivers. You'll need a DVI to VGA adapter, but those should be expensive. You'd hook your main monitor up to the VGA, and your secondary up to the DVI via adapter.

DirectConnect makes a ATI 7000 chipset that's a dual VGA without the need for a DVI to VGA adapter. I just put one in a system I just sold. I bought it for $35 USD from a local computer shop.

I build and repair computers for a living. You were jipped. By the way, I fix more HPs, Compaqs, and Dell machines than BestBuy, Circuit City, and CompUSA sell in a year.

As for your buy? I think you got jipped.
How about a Custom built unit with the following:
3.5" floppy drive.............................................................................$5
17" AOC Monitor.............................................................................$75
80 GIG hard drive with 5 year warranty (twice what you have).....$65
Logitech Optical Mouse...................................................................$8
Keyboard........................................................................................$10
Case with 420watt PowerSupply....................................................$49
1 GIG (twice what you have) of 400MHZ DDR RAM (faster too).......$100
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (performance equal to an intel p4 3.0Ghz)...$95
Microsoft Windows XP Home with all existing updates....................$95
LiteOn CDRW 52x writing 32x re-writing, 52x reading.....................$34
Gigabyte-7n400-pro2 Motherboard.................................................$104
AOpen 56K PCI Data Fax Modem(FM56-SVV)...................................$10
-7.1 Surround Sound on the motherboard
-10/100/1000MBPS Integrated NIC
-8x AGP
-2 Serial ATA ports with silicon image Raid Driver allowing for
Raid 0, 1, and 0+1
-4 Parallel ATA ports supporting up to 8 hard disk devices, be they cd roms, burners, dvd drives, hard dives etc, with support for normal function or RAID 0, 1, or 0+1
-supports 400mhz FSB RAM (PC3200) up to 3 GIGs
-5 PCI slots
-NVIDIA Nforce2 Chipset
-Dual Bios
-and more, check gigabyte's webside for details.

total: $650 then watever (if any) the applicable tax is.

add in a 3 year parts an labor warranty at NO CHARGE... and I think i've pretty much built you a far better system for a little over what you paid, i can do less for much less too. You got screwed, and now dell pretty much owns your ass for replacement parts (you will find they die rather fast, crapass low quality components) If i wanted to fuss with it i could have adjusted the parts to bring you down to 500 and still had better performance than your dell and better parts.

No, i'm not providing contact information, this is not a sales pitch, i'm illustrating my point. Dell gives you overpriced crap made from cheapass components you have to pay for a gaurentee on. You should have listened to your friends. You were screwed.

You Do Know This Thread Is 8 Months Old, Right? The Prices Back Then Were Diffrent Than They Are Now.
